Sunday Morning Birds ~ Bluebirds at the Woodland Stream & A Very Cute Group of Tufted Titmice

  • We had more hot, dry weather here this week, so there was lots of activity at the bird ponds. It was hot enough that I had some cameras shut down when I tried to do some mid-day filming. Last year, that was enough of a problem that I took a break from doing the Sunday Morning videos for a while, but this year, the woodland stream will provide a nice cool location for filming - and I think it will continue to get more popular with the birds too.
    The bird population here continues to grow. The Bluebirds just fledged another batch of babies. That should be the last of the baby birds until the goldfinches nest later in the summer. I think the biggest population boom has to be the Tufted Titmice. I'm not sure how many of them there are here now but there's one little Titmouse gang of five that's been traveling around together. They're a lot of fun to watch :-)
    Thanks for watching! Stay safe out there and I'll see you next week!

      That is really nice to hear. I’m still somewhat amazed to know that people tune in each week to watch. I really enjoy trying to make this little spot of land as bird-friendly as possible, and sharing the birds with all of you. Thanks for watching and have a great day!

    Goodmorning!!
    Love all the goofy titmice 😊. So cute!!
    Are you seeing the goldfinches? There were some in the videos earlier in the spring but none since.
    Nice bit of patriotism there at the end 😁.
    Have a lovely week!! 🥰🌿♥️

      There were some goldfinches on camera this week but their clip got cut because of background noise. I live near a lake and there was a LOT of boat noise this week with the 4th of July holiday. There should be more goldfinches around now that some of the flowers are starting to go to seed.

    You inspired me to make my own bird pond in my backyard and try to rewild half of it. I'm in the middle of making a pond specifically for birds as well as tearing up grass to try to plant wildflowers to attract even more birds and wildlife. I wish I got even an eighth of the interesting birds that come to visit your pond, but it is amazing to be able to look out the window and see wildlife now! Just out of curiosity, if you don't mind me asking, what kind of camera do you use?

      Yay! Give it time, you’ll get more variety of birds over time. I started out with mainly Tufted Titmice, Goldfinches, and a few fall migrants. Tanagers, Bluebirds, Phoebes, and all the crazy Vireos have slowly settled in over the years (I’ve been here 12 years and built my first bird pond my first year here). The different summer warblers have just started showing up the last few years. Most of the clips in the Sunday Morning videos are filmed with GoPro cameras. I have three older models I bought used (they’re Hero 5 Blacks). I don’t need all the fancy image stabilizing that the newer ones have, so these work fine for me. Since they’re action cameras, they do a nice job of maintaining focus on all the birds as they move around. I used to use an old cell phone but it didn’t handle the focusing as well. I also love that the GoPros are small and waterproof, so I can put them right up next to the pool and at eye level for the birds for nice closeup viewing. In addition to the GoPros, I have a Birdsy Cam permanently set up at the Bird Pond and several Amazon Blink cameras that I can move around but currently have sitting at the Woodland Stream, bird puddle, and concrete baths. Those are all motion activated and let me keep an eye on what’s going on at all the water features. I occasionally include footage from the Birdsy and Blink cameras in the videos. There’s usually a Birdsy or Blink logo in one of the corners. The video quality in those isn’t as good as the GoPros but, since they’re always on and watching, they sometimes pick up things I don’t manage to get on the other cameras. Good luck with your project! I’m sure you’ll make a lot of birds and other critters very happy 🙂

    Looks cool and inviting. Meanwhile, Oregon I'm having a hard time keeping water in my bird baths. Some I have to fill twice a day. Evaporation. I don't see any birds at any of mine, but I fill them anyway just in case. I didn't know cameras can overheat. Must have been extremely hot. Nice to see videos of birds playing in the water and getting cooled down. Thank you.

    • @WarblerRidge
      @WarblerRidge  8 днів тому

      Yeah, the GoPro video cameras I use will overheat and shut down if they’re left running in the hot sun for too long. I get a lot of evaporation here too and have to top off the water in the bird ponds a couple times a day sometimes. Thanks for watching!
