Excellent video! I'm growing Pink Berkeley Tie Dye and Cherokee Purple this year in large containers. I can't wait to compare them. I'm planning on growing some dwarf varieties next year since they're a better size for container gardening.
Thanks for the ideas! My tomatoes came back from seed on on their own last year, and I noticed the varieties seemed to have mixed together some from what I presume is cross-pollination. Successfully introducing some new tomatoes varieties this year is my goal.
Really glad Pink Berkeley Tie-Dye tomato seems like a dependable early tomato. It will most likely ripen a little later here in the north-west of Ireland, with our maritime climate. Also, glad to hear it has a taste to match its looks. Cherokee Purple will also be grown, fingers crossed both do well. It will be interesting to see what my neighbours think of them.
My current absolute favorite is Sunrise Bumble bee. I have 60 vines of various heirlooms this year! PS…NW of Ireland? Frosses Donegal family girl, here in NY.

Beautiful tomatoes! I'll bet most of them have some Black Krim in them. Black Krim, although long until fruiting and not really attractive, is still to me, the best tasting tomato on this planet.
I grew Black Krim for the first time last year and was really disappointed with it. We had perfect summer weather too with hot, dry, sunny conditions for months, but they Black Krim still lacked flavour to me. Very watery and not as sweet as I was expecting, having heard so many good reviews. I think I graded it 6/10. My Brandywine Suddeth also underperformed last year and didn't taste very good, compared to back in 2020 when it was my best tomato. I am doing them both again this year though.
@@petyrbaelish1718 Over watering, like refrigerating tomatoes makes them taste bland. I've always found Black Krim to be the most flavorful of all tomato varieties - that and Cherokee Purple. Try some crushed oyster shell in your soil prep; cheap and lasts in the soil for years - calcium.
@@jthepickle7 All of my tomato plants were kept on the dry side last summer as we had a bad drought and I didn't water them anywhere near as much as I should have. I had an awful blight outbreak the year before, so I was trying to keep stuff somewhat dry anyway last year. So the taste definitely wasn't watered down. Maybe I just got unlucky and will do better with Black Krim this year. If not, it is off the list. Elser Farms Brown Derby beat it big time last year. Apero F1 cherry also an unbelievable variety.
I grow new varieties every year and you have given me ideas for next year. This year it's Aunt Ruby's German Green, Cherokee Purple, Patty's yellow striped beefsteak, Orange banana ,Black Krim and Red Pear. All new to my garden except Cherokee Purple which is so far my all time favorite ,I want to try a tomato that rivals it so Berkley Pink Tie Dye is one I look forward to trying.
I'm growing Aunt Ruby's German Green for the first time this season. I have 150 different varieties to plant in a month. I'll certainly try to show all of them. Cherokee Purple is great, but it hates hot weather 😬

Hi there, I'm in South Africa and I've just gotten a pack of Berkeley Tie-Dye Pink seeds. I intend to plant it in Oct/Nov 2024 for growing through our summer and into Autumn, but I'm also experimenting with planting a couple of them now (middle of January) for late Summer, growing into Autumn. Do you have tips for pruning them for maximum growth rate as I want to get fruit before it gets too cold for flowering/fruiting. This is all for outdoor growing, taking into account climate change giving us warmer run into our mild Mediterranean Winter period (Cape Town).
Have you or any viewers tried summertime green? How does it stacks up against other green dwarf tomatoes? I'm looking for a green when ripe dwarf for container growing.
I'm growing Summertime Gold this year, but I'll try to find that Green variety for the next season. You can try to grow Big Green dwarf, I liked the taste of it.
Have you grown Malakhitovaya Shkatulka? I’m curious to hear your thoughts on that as a GWR. It has earned the top spot in our blind taste test for the past 2 years.
Of course I grew this tomato. In my opinion, there is another Russian GWR variety that is much tastier and sweeter than Malakhitovaya Shkatulka (Malachite Casket). It is called Boloto (Swamp). I consider it one of the best green-fruited tomatoes in the world.

And I'm growing Captain Lucky this season. What about my top ten best tasting tomatoes, it's really hard to tell, because there are so many of them. I really love the taste of the Queen Aliquippa, Xanadu Green Goddess, Everett's Rusty Oxheart, Spencer, Candy Sweet Icicle, Zloty Ozharovsky, Yellow Giant Belgium, Altai Orange, Linnaeus Heart, Dwarf Uluru Ochre, Marsha's Starfighter Heart, and different brandywine tomatoes.

Regarding taste I do like sweet tomatoes as candy and of course well balanced with good flavor, but maybe I even more prefer tomatoes that have a domincance in sourness if the aroma is also great and they have an intense spicy depth, thats why I am also a fan of Malakhitovaya Shkatulka, Green Zebra, Green Berkeley Tie-Dye or Purple Calabash and more.If you like tomatoes like Ananas Noire and Polaris you should try for sure Captain Lucky, I consider it one of the best tomatoes, even better than the ones Karen Olivier from Canada has bread out of this variety. I have tried Everett's Rusty Oxheart but for me it is similar but inferior to Ananas Noire in taste. I also like Xanadu Green Goddess but prefer Green zebra more. I also have tested all Brandywine tomatoes, even the lesser known but only Brandywine Sudduth's Strain was good enough for me to stay, right with Dester the best pink tomato for me. For example yellow Brandywine is quite good in taste for a yellow tomato, but it only had 2 fruit for me on the whole plant. Candy Sweet Icicle is a nice one for sure if someone likes sweet tomatoes. I have still to try most of the other ones you have mentioned, maybe i will grow some of them this year.

Until now I have grown Ananas Noire since 2019, but it has never disappointed me regarding taste, while many other varieties changed the taste quite a lot.
I just had a cherokee purple yesterday which was the worst tomato I've ever had. Looks great. Tastes like a turd! Had the same experience 3 years ago. Not sweet, not acidic, bland as can be

The taste of the Everett's Rusty Oxheart tomatoes depends on the conditions you grow them. It can change from simply good to extremely tasty.
