Having the tomatoes listed some place in the description or at least on the screen as you are talking about them would have been super helpful. Thank you!
I had to go back and watch and you are absolutely right that I didn’t say the name! It’s Purple Reign. Looks like Renaissance Farms has seed for sale this year. Thanks for bringing that to my attention and happy gardening 🙂
Have you tried Sart Roloise or Midnight Sun? Sart Roloise has got a fruity flavor and it's gorgeous. Midnight Sun is also beautiful and tasty. The plant tends to look wimpy but then it produces these big yellow/pink/orange heart shaped tomatoes. I've been growing them both for several years. They might be something to look into. Thanks for the reviews of your tomatoes. These are always helpful.
We are enjoying a cherry tomato called Black Cherry this year as well as Sungold, Isis Candy and Purple Bumblebee (which are HUGE). We're also enjoying Paul Robeson and Dr. Wyche's. Cherokee Purple is a standard in our garden and this year we added a paste tomato called Wessel's Purple Pride (a cross between Cherokee Purple and Green Sosji) which is divine. German Pink rounded out the roster of favourites.
Sounds like a great variety of flavors! I’ve grown Black Cherry but prefer the Rosella Cherry tomatoes…they are very similar. I’ll have to look up your Purple Bumblebee! Thanks for sharing!
I've grown so many but a couple that always stood out because I love high umami given by the glutamates in tomatoes with a nice sweetness and bit of acidity is what I look for and they most the season I only feed fish emulsion. It just makes tomatoes taste to their peak potential. But two I always love how they turn out are the medium heirloom Green Zebra (such a well rounded and balanced tomato with loads of zingy flavor, umami, sweet and acidity) they're probably the best all around tomato go reading fresh, in salad, BLTs, tomato sandwiches, tacos to Pico, just by themselves with home cooked meals. Then the Sungold variety. They are flavor bombs there's nothing like them as cherry sized are my absolute favorite to grow because they pack the most flavor... There's several black cherry varieties that come close but those first two really I could live on and use of there were no other choices.
@beverlycharles6534 the 2023 growing season brought many challenges to the tomato plants. Bonnie Best seemed nearly unphased and stayed healthy and produced heavily. It made a nice slicer and had a balanced tomato flavor.
Help!! Trying to find a prolific, tasty, heat-tolerant RED or PINK SLICER to grow. Maybe Trip-L-Crop, Pink Oxheart, German Pink, or something like Better Boy or Brandy Boy ---which do you most recommend for a new gardener who LOVES maters? FYI: Already have seeds for: Brandywine Yellow, Big Rainbow, Hillbilly, Black Krim, Cherokee Carbon, SunSugar, SSweet100s, & Black Cherry.
you absolutely should try oaxacan jewel and queen aliquippa, the first is a yellow pink tie dyed tomato and the second is a green tomato, they are both slicer tomatoes, on the larger size and very sweet. Finally the xanadu green goddess, its emerald green with purple shoulders, sweet and fruity plum sized tomato.
I'm a plum/paste tomato girl. I think my favorite has been Jersey Devil. Unfortunately, I can't seem to grow them since I've moved down to the hot, humid south.
Oh yes Jersey Devil is a good one! Sorry to hear you can’t grow them anymore…hope you find a new favorite. I also like Striped Roman and Myona for paste tomatoes.
You have to get them in ground now and need your starts to be at least 8-10 week transplants. I start my plants New Yrs. The name of the game is timing . You gotta beat the high Temps which come on hard and fast! Also get some powdered copper fungicide and sprinkle lightly in each hole you plant your tomatoe in. I love oxheart tomatoes: Hungarian Heart, Golden King of Siberia, True Colors, and Midnight Sun. This year I am growing a new one called "White Oxheart Cherry" which is a heart shaped white cherry, as well as several heart shaped varieties from the Dwarf Tomato Project. I absolutely love all of my dwarf tomatoes.
One of the more complex in favour is Amish orange oxheart hierloom. This complexity condenses when cooked. It is our household favorite for eatting cooked. A must try!
Rosella Cherry are great! I'm trying Prairie Fire this year for the first time, hope mine are as sweet as yours turned out! 2 cherries you need to try are Honey Drop and Lemon Drop. Honey Drop tastes as good as Sungold, but less likely to crack. Lemon Drop actually has a very unique lemony flavour profile.
Ok you sold me on squeezing in Honey Drop this year 😂 and I’ll try Lemon Drop next year! Thanks for your input 🌱 and hope you’ll love the Prairie Fire as much as I do.
I've raised the German orange strawberry tomato. I'm not a lover of yellow tomatoes, but that tomato has a lot of flavor and I highly recommend it. That is one of the best varieties not to split anywhere. It has been higher at disease resistant in my area of South West VA. I was able to count on it, especially during a bad year for the purple tomatoes and other varieties. It gets quite large and nearly blemish free, so there's almost no waste. It makes an excellent canning tomato, since there's less tomatoes/bu to clean and process. The tomato will need mixed with other tomatoes during canning, since yellow tomatoes are known to have higher ph. It gives a beautiful jar presence when canning whole tomatoes and mixing in some red, purple, and green varieties. The inside of the tomato is meaty with low volume of water. It sells well in my area and I usually recommend it for sandwiches, since it has lower water and doesn't soak the bread, high flavor, and covers the entire sandwich. The seeds are usually a little harder to find and sometimes a computer search is necessary. I've gotten mine from Renaissance Farms. It is in the same category as the Oxhearts. Some people were even buying tomatoes from me for mainly the seeds, because it was such high quality.
Pink brandy wine plants failed for me 2 years ago (zone 10) so I got discouraged…then last year San Marzano was a dud. This year Sungold is a champion so I’m going to keep trying. Kellogg’s breakfast is great too and huge.
There are brandywine hybrids you can try which supposedly offer good resistance and production along with the great flavour. Burpees makes 3. Big brandy, genuwine, and another i forget.

@Adventures in Gardening It wasn't #3, my mistake. it is the one you described as New to me last year. It blew your mind. A dwarf style tomato. It looks like a purple or black style tomato.
@Adventures in Gardening rosella purple is a dwarf slicing tomato. Check out victory seeds. Not sure where you sourced the seeds but definitely part of dwarf tomato project & not a cherry tomato.
I had to look that variety up as I’ve not had them before…looks like they’re a hybrid and I only grow heirlooms. I read the description of them and would suggest trying Isis Candy, Rosella Cherry, or prairie fire if you’re looking for an heirloom substitute. Thanks for watching 🙂
I've grown a few early varieties including the ones she mentioned. They were all duds. Bland, no flavor. Totally a waste of space. Would strongly discourage anyone from trying early varieties unless your season is very short.
It’s always good to hear different opinions! Gardening is an adventure and not one-size-fits-all, so I encourage people to try and taste/see for themselves. I stand by the varieties in this video, but appreciate your perspective 🙂

Orange russian 117 is the absolute best Heart. Reinhard's green Heart is also perfect
Would be helpful to identify the growing zone that you are in (in particular in the About-information). Many tomatoes that you are touting may well not grow so well in other zones.
Thanks, most videos I do but I’ll keep that in mind. Connecticut, zone 6. 🙂
What was the tomato at 8:52 ish? I replayed it several times and didn't catch the name.
It’s Purple Reign. Definitely a great tomato!
Blue cream tomaos
❤️ them!
10 00 best
A lot of people want great tasting tomatoes but don’t have access to in ground space. 😢
There are a lot of container tomato plants with great flavor!
@@AdventuresinGardening yes , there are, perhaps the wrong word was used.; I was actually addressing the comment you made re why anyone would not grow their tomatoes in ground. Not everyone has a lot of space.
What was #3? Rosella Purple. I didn't hear you say what it was.
The third one is called Principe Borghese. It’s semi determinate and you’ll get a ton of tomatoes! Rosella is an indeterminate cherry that is sweet. Thanks for watching and thanks for your comment. Next time I’ll put the text of the names on the screen. Happy gardening!
@Adventures in Gardening It wasn't #3, my mistake. it is the one you described as New to me last year. It blew your mind. A dwarf style tomato. It looks like a purple or black style tomato.
Ahhh…Purple Reign. Fantastic tomato!
@@AdventuresinGardening Thank you, I'll put it on my list to try!
@Adventures in Gardening rosella purple is a dwarf slicing tomato. Check out victory seeds. Not sure where you sourced the seeds but definitely part of dwarf tomato project & not a cherry tomato.
Ananas Noir. Sugar Rush cherry
it would be nice and easier if the name of the tomato's be written, thank you
08:54 Hi, what is the name of this tomato?
It’s Purple Reign…sorry I forget to say it in the video. 🙂
@@AdventuresinGardening thank you!
What is another name for poppies tomatoes
I had to look that variety up as I’ve not had them before…looks like they’re a hybrid and I only grow heirlooms. I read the description of them and would suggest trying Isis Candy, Rosella Cherry, or prairie fire if you’re looking for an heirloom substitute. Thanks for watching 🙂
nice content,,, but need some update on your content
you didn't give the name of the tomato at 9:00.
Sorry, it’s Purple Reign. Happy Gardening!
What’s it called
I've grown a few early varieties including the ones she mentioned. They were all duds. Bland, no flavor. Totally a waste of space. Would strongly discourage anyone from trying early varieties unless your season is very short.
It’s always good to hear different opinions! Gardening is an adventure and not one-size-fits-all, so I encourage people to try and taste/see for themselves. I stand by the varieties in this video, but appreciate your perspective 🙂
you talked about theone that you had so many of but you never named it
Yes I’m so sorry I didn’t say the name - it’s Purple Reign and it’s a winner!
I cant belive how ppl can talk trash so long
