The mechanics for this will be in the book. Much like the DMG having the ability to build magical items, the new expansion book has the ability to custom build your Spelljammer for your players.
In Spelljammer, I can really see two ways to play. Either you get your own ship, or you travel from ship to ship. I honestly see the latter as better for low-level and the former better for high level. Travelling from ship to ship could take many forms. Maybe you book passage from one world or wildspace base to another, or you take commission as guards on ships that travel the phlogiston. Maybe you have to sneak aboard and stow away to reach the BBEG's secret moon base from which he will use a ritual to cast a twelfth level spell of annihilation, destroying an entire country on the planet below. With a bit of home-brew, you might be able to take Spelljammers not only to other material planes, but also to higher and lower realms. You escape from the Nine Hells on a small spelljammer, meeting up with a larger ship somewhere near the Elemental Plane of Water, and travelling to your base on your wizard's personal astral realm, all before going for a supply run to Krynnspace (Dragonlance setting).
Or the adventurers find a shipwreck they can repair and get themselves a bigger ship/upgrade or make enough coin to buy a bigger OR even they are gifted one from some society they have aided along the way so many options for imaginative DM's out there,

Sadly, in Forgotten Realms' Korea/Koryo...let's say that they are "willing to fault a foreigner than their own" and everyone had trousers and shirts with aristocrats wearing robes and there is a magic tailor but the academy is essentially Hwa Rang Do but written as generic Kung Fu-esque academy and no magic or Hwa Rang genre. There is Goguryeo, Baekje, and Silla, which are promptly disappeared after not!Yi Sun Shin (or other Korean figure who is a general and took over as emperor) decided to reunify it into one country (like maybe they could make them into provinces or autonomous kingdoms with him as arbitrator). Turned out "take popular things for fantasy" can have its limits, especially when you do Korea in 1989 (aka writers who probably took notes from Tae Kwan Do manual and your average players at the time didn't have K-Pop, K-Drama, or internet...so it will probably be even worse like it is Korean coded but it's gonna be Chinese and Japanese culture, didn't help that said king is Samurai and Koryo has ninja as well).
40 years of D&D under my belt. Spelljammer was one the BEST experiences to run as a DM. I cannot wait to add this newest version to my collection. Imagine your party in a Batship stuck in the crossfire of a fleet of Illithid
it's times like this when I remember that Todd Kenrick works for Wizards of the Coast. So it's essentially Dungeons and Dragons interviewing themselves I don't see how he could fully endorse the book knowing what was actually in it.
I have always canonized Speljammer when running 5e. I never played in the outer sphere setting, but explaining trade routes between the spheres allowed for races, and tech from Ravnica to be present on Toril. (I love Loxodons, and now you can all be Loxodons. This was the sole purpose for doing this. Lol)
Some people have complained about the Neogi Deathspider being renamed into the Neogi Nightspider. Personally, I think "Nightspider" makes more sense for the Neogi considering that they're supposed to be slavers, calling their spelljammers "Deathspiders" feels contradictory to the idea that they're slavers.
No. Its just that Neogi already had a Nightspider. It was their small assault/fighter spelljammer. You know like a airplane or ship used for night raids. Not one out of 3 main vessels that also held those doomed to die as fuel for the helm, slaves or food.

some of my players are already talking about doing a campaign where the party are space pirates and basically add the hull of the ships they attack to their own vessel thereby making it bigger and more intimidating.
So they basically wanna deliberately make a 40K Space Hulk? All they need is a chaos, ork or genestealer infestation in parts of it. Or all three at the same time for added fun. :)
The thing would be so slow and poorly maneuverable that it wouldn't ever catch anything that wasn't already disabled. Perhaps if the pirate fleet were to haul this conglomerate ship around while actually flying a multitude of smaller ships in order to catch new prey.
I made a spelljammer/elemental ship that looks like a small modern yacht that has a cargo bay that doubles as an escape pod where 3 fin-like sails are used to glide to hopefully safety.

idea for a one-shot: One of the crew is a doppelganger and there's also a mimic posing as a control console or escape lifeboat. Make the quests Among Us style maintenance tasks where the party has to split up ... did you hear something in the vents? 👽
I had an idea for a one-shot, where you randomly make one of the crew members a doppelganger who just needs to survive until the end to win. Plot twist: all of them are doppelgangers, but don't know about each other.

Pre covid I was running a campaign with Spelljammer, the players gravitated to a Hammerhead, but their main frenemy (was he the BBEG? Sadly the campaign died before the players could find out) flew a ship based off of GW’s Man oWar rules, the dwarven Ironclad. I can also see players wanting to mod airships from Exandria or Ebberon for Spelljamming. As to living ships, the Treant infused(?) concept is great, I’ve seen living ship homebrew ideas before (Elven ships with a soul, or ships based off of Farscape, or even Tyranid style ships (Eldritch abominations FTW)

One of my pet peeves is the fact that when someone say "Gifth", you can hear it as Githyanki, Githzerai, or Hippo People. Two of those things are similar, one is completely different!

Technically, we already got all those decades ago... it's just a matter of converting them to the new system :) Personally, I've always loved the Nautiloid... or at least the wooden ship that existed before they made it a gross, living creature thing

Gnomes, Full stop. all the crazy stuff groundling Gnomes make that blows up on a planet all of a sudden makes sense in space. if fact if memory serves it was them that used the giant space hamsters as power in the gnomish sidewheeler(see paddle boat in space)
If you don't need to breath in the astral sea/wildspace, which I believe they mentioned in another video, then why would a Life Ship powered/overseen by a treant need to generate air that got fouled or used up?

Incredible! I'm taking my players to the end of the universe to fight an eldritch horror that dreamt up the universe. These books could not have come at a better time. I've been running this campaign for 6 years now and they've reached beyond level 20 at this point. They've broken their level caps and are onto even bigger things!
In the adventure, (Spelljammer academy) your players get split into two, the Spelljammer corps, and the Spelljammer cadets. It isn't explicitly stated, but it seems to be casters and martials split. Later, in the Spelljammer Nexus, it makes mentions "No ability checks are needed" when flying a mock spelljammer. I imagine it's going to be spellslot based by default. Personally I'd like if Psionics like the psiknight could be included but, I don't make the lore

I just dont understand how there is space in these books for everything. There are three 64 page books. 64 pages is nothing. One of those books is an adventure. Thats about as long as the one in the starter kit which is just a short 1-5 lvl adventure. I feel like everyone is going to be majorly disappointed
So, the treant merged with a spelljammer isn't a new idea, I've had one in my weekly dnd game for more than a year, but I actually came up with it for a one-shot some players of mine did more than 10 years ago. This is not a case of a stolen idea, I'm sure we independently came up with it.

A living ship isn't a new idea, although a treant one is. The Spelljammer was a massive living ship back in the OG manuals.

The damselfly description makes me think of Firefly. This thought brings pure joy for a possible campaign.

By chance will there be rules to take vehicle already made, for example a Lighting Rail, and turn them into spelljammers?
That can be done by adding a spelljamming helm to the ship. Used to be 3 types of helm but guess we will have to wait and see

Doubt it. 2e had quite a few spelljammer stuff. Editions since then haven't done as much with the settings (although 3e had a lot of fr stuff)

Only issue I see is that Arcadia is already the name of an outer plane.
So, the treant merged with a spelljammer isn't a new idea, I've had one in my weekly dnd game for more than a year, but I actually came up with it for a one-shot some players of mine did more than 10 years ago.
This is not a case of a stolen idea, I'm sure we independently came up with it.
So yeah I expected a video showcasing ALL the ships of Spelljammer here not a "presentation" sneak peek trying to sell me something.... Do better
