Being a Star Trek fan from the beginning, this is spot on, and a fantastic performance. Great barbershop harmony AND a nice tribute to the original series.
I LOVE all the quartet references (New Tradition, Rhythm and Rhyme). I've ALWAYS loved these guys, having sung in Masters of Harmony with 3 of them, and in Benchmark with Craig (Hair Club for men member in Red!!). Keep the vids coming, Martin!!
While I've always been a fan of barbershop quartets, I've found humor is an integral part of many acts.....However, I've never seen an act before that made me laugh so hard I snorted soda....goodness, that stings.......Great job, fellas.
Hey Hi-Fidelity - just wanted to let you know that I jut got your new CD and it is just as good as the first! Glad that I got to hear you guys live and meet you. HIGHLY RECOMMEND GETTING THEIR NEW (OR OLD) CD!!!!! Awesome Quartet (honestly one of the best out there today) and just all-around good guys. I love the sound that you guys have - your blend and balance is uniquely you, and it's always a pleasure to hear. Keep entertaining, best wishes, and take care!!
Nice comedy and harmonies. I had to laugh at the Sweet Adeline bit. I am a Sweet Adeline. Not a nurse, though I do know of one member who is. Alas, she's married.
I love barbershop and I also happen to like Star trek so of course i had to check it out... ("Tough call" on judges being "Human" ?) *giggle* post one as the Adams' Family ! Please?
How does one go-about getting the sheet music for the songs in your videos? Gotta git me a quartet goin' and sing some these here songs!!!!! You guys are GREAT!!
I am a former member of Dapper Dans from Disneyland and let me tell you...LOVED IT!! do you guys have a website ? THanks for posting...very funny indeed! You guys also did some dapper Dan songs too :) Sincerely Rob DAPPER DANS 1980 Disneyland.
Captain, sensors indicate we have transported into a barbershop quartet contest. These strange life-forms here are known as Judges. Judges? Judges? Bones, get a reading; are they human? Tough call. Mr. Spock, what are they looking for? No one knows.
@mfredstr That is highly illogical. Dated I know, but you guys are GREAT!!!!!! I'm still laughing. And Vulcans don't laugh--- Damn it Jim! ! Keep up the good work guys!!!!
I love the comments about the judges. Unfortunately, it seems that you seldom hear barbershop harmony performed as it was written, for the sake of entertainment. Instead, they have "competitions" involving quartets and choruses, with awkward, overwrought "choreography" and endless key changes, tempo variations, and sundry vocal tricks to impress the JUDGES. I hate the stuff you hear at barbershop competitions. Why do barbershop singers seem to feel a greater need to "compete" than to "perform" as entertainment?
I think you completely misunderstand the context of barbershop. barbershop singing originated around barbershops when men broke out into impromptu singing and improvised harmony--- for entertainment. Barbershop is an oral tradition of music, not written. Full arrangements in barbershop style didn't come until much later. "Performed as it was written" is contrary to the very nature of barbershop. the lines and dots on the page are not music; the sound from the voices and the joy in the room is music.
If you guys are on Facebook, you should join the STFF: Star Trek Federation of Fans. We would love it if you could come to any reunion conventions we might have.
Hi Jack. My question was a bit of an inside joke aimed at Martin, who is an old dear friend of mine. It was sort of a poke at the whole society's name change issue; the notion were were all supposed to forget the old acronym as we went forward.
The Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America. I think. Anyway, it's called the BHS now, the Barbershop Harmony Society now, have a look at their website.
It only took UA-cam the better part of two decades to show me this video. Watched part one first. Very nicely done.
gotta give major props for being able to fit "pontificates" into a song LOL
Being a Star Trek fan from the beginning, this is spot on, and a fantastic performance. Great barbershop harmony AND a nice tribute to the original series.
Awesome...I'm a Trek fan for 2 decades now, and that was a great twist on it. Thanks for the smile!

Keep the vids coming, Martin!!
Over a quarter century for me and when I saw this I was singing along and guessing many of the words.
Whatever contest this was...where ever it was... if these guys didn't win then theres no justice in the world. LOVED it! Thanks for posting it.
Absolutely OUTSTANDING! I laughed the entire time - thanks for brightening my day! :)
While I've always been a fan of barbershop quartets, I've found humor is an integral part of many acts.....However, I've never seen an act before that made me laugh so hard I snorted soda....goodness, that stings.......Great job, fellas.

Hi-Fidelity Quartet
Absolutely out of this world, cosmic, universal entertainment value, definately four stars.
I would pay for an entire album of star trek inspired barbershop quartet songs.
@uhura390 We did not win, but the audience loved it :) You can see our performance schedule on our website....
I hope they won. Great singing and marvelous inventiveness!

Many of these lyrics lifted from Allan Sherman's "Eight Foot Two" song recorded back in 1962 or 63.

The one that plays spock was the vulcan captain in the DS9 pilot
That is great!!!

Judges? Judges? Bones, get a reading; are they human?
Tough call.
Mr. Spock, what are they looking for?
No one knows.
It's Scotty. He isn't supposed to die, even wearing a red shirt :P
OMKami that was amazing! 8D
VERY clever!
So, let me see if I have the quartet right. Spock is the bass, Scotty is the Tenor, Bones is the Lead, and Kirk is the Baritone?
@theatomicpig3333 This was the Barbershop Harmony Society International Contest. Or as we call it..."The Big Show" :)
brilliant!
hands down the best barbershop quartet i've ever seen. only 25th? were the judges Picard fans?
Well Done!!!!!!
It's Scotty. Scotty doesn't die :P
Glad we could brighten you day!
H-Fidelity Quartet
@mfredstr That is highly illogical. Dated I know, but you guys are GREAT!!!!!! I'm still laughing. And Vulcans don't laugh--- Damn it Jim! ! Keep up the good work guys!!!!
@verbusen No. It was the SPEBSQSA International contest in Denver
My guess is he was supposed to be Scotty, who always wears a red shirt but never dies. :P

I think it's designed to show all the skills they'd use over the course of an evening in about five minutes.
Dannys99887 because people get bored.
I know what you are saying. I think there is a drive to add humour into performances, as a "normal" performance isn't considered entertaining anymore.
I think you completely misunderstand the context of barbershop. barbershop singing originated around barbershops when men broke out into impromptu singing and improvised harmony--- for entertainment. @meanwiddlekid Scotty Can't Die. he's the only wearer of Red who doesn't!
You should make a cd!
I take it you were defeated by a Next Generation group? ;-)
(Thanks for posting both videos: very enjoyable. :-))
Did they win and did any of them go on to make other quartets that had medal success
Thanks. We are trying to excercise and eat right however so maybe we will trim down before next International. lol

No apologies necessary, Jack! Just having some fun!

Is there ANY way I could purchase the sheet music for this?

Glad you like it!

Exactly, same here! :D
Sheet music available for purchase if you want to message me
More
Was this at Branson?
Unless it's Scotty. Then he stays alive. ;)
Barbershop contest stuff.
Is the tenor one the one in red? He's good! You guys aren't bad at all
I wonder if they won
