The Ball In Cube puzzle is actually just a 5*5*5 believe it or not- the middle edge pieces are just completely hidden. That's why the middle layers of the ball move with the inner layers of the cube- they're literally connected. It's also why the middlemost layer of the ball can turn with either. You're basically turning two of the three layers of the 5*5*5 regardless. It's an interesting concept to be honest. So you essentially solve it like a 5*5*5 for the center, then like a 4*4*4 for the edges, and then a 3*3*3 for the corners. (Also, this is the same for normal 4*4*4 cubes- they're simply 5*5*5 cubes with the middle layer hidden entirely. It's why some of the old 4*4*4 cubes would lock up- the middle layers would become offset and block the other layers. New cubes have mechanisms to prevent this.)
So that cross cube, you actually scrambled it like a 3x3 meaning until you did the face turns (the "outer layers" of the 5x5) it could have been solved as a 3x3! You gotta turn those faces as you scramble ;)
That “ball in a cage” puzzle is just a 5x5, those outer edges are the second layer edges of the 5x5, just stretched out. If you pull them apart you can see the middle layer edges.
You: 6x6 pyramorphix Me: 7x7 mastermorphix 22:35 I imagine with more difficulty than a 3x3, a combination of a 3x3, 3x3x5 and megaminx (because of more pieces) 30:57 why not do an U perm

Regarding the ball in the cube, Calvin's puzzle didn't actually produce the puzzle to Tony Fisher's original intention. The original puzzle was built from an Eastsheen 4x4, the first 4x4 cube to use a 5x5 mechanism with a hidden inner layer. Tony Fisher shaved down the centers into a ball shape, which exposed some of the internals (which were already quite close to ball shape because that's how the hidden middle layer of an even cube would be shaped like). However, the Eastsheen 4x4 had an alignment mechanism inside it's core (unlike a modern 4x4 where the allignement mechanism is close to the surface). This prevented the hidden inner layer from turning even after the outer parts covering the center was removed, causing it to always follow a an adjacent layer that whenever the cube is turned. This meant that the ball in a cube had turning restrictions to add on to the puzzle's challenge. However, in the Calvin's puzzle version, the middle layer is free to turn, making it just another 5x5 shape mod.
0:55 the puzzles which change their shape when scrambling are called _shape-shifting puzzles_

As much as the cubes hurt my brain, the video was very well put together and I really enjoyed watching it!
Am I the only one who has no idea how to solve any puzzle but finds these videos kinda satisfying and relaxing?
Nope
I can't even solve my 3x3
I cant do any LOL
I only know 2x2 and 3x3 and mirror blocks
I only know the floppy and ivy cube
@Mr. Mini Brands! 1x1x3
The Royal Pyraminx is probably my favorite!
I do believe the morphix you showed was a 7x7 not a 6x6.
Really difficult but awesome puzzles! Love this unboxing. Thanks for making my day happy
I don’t understand how the designers even design these they must have some big brain
And I can’t understand how tingman can solve some of these puzzles 🧩.
Yea, this is big brain time.
Yep
Thanks for showcasing my puzzle! I love watching people try to work through a solve on it.

Tingman you just light up my day. I was having a really bad day and idk why you just always cheer me up.
Megaminx ball hit some serious Treasure planet vibes for me omg. Repaint it bronze, add strange symbols and you'll get your own treasure map.

Super Cool!
Wouldn't the 5x5 ball be harder than a regular 5x5 because there is nothing dictating you how much to turn the side on the ball.

This is based on what I remembered from a video by Tony FIsher when he unboxed the Calvin's puzzle ball in a cube.
