I know. Why do gay people even feel they need to hide? These days if anyone at work gives you a hard time there’s a criminal record for the hate speaker, a civil trial for the employer and a massive new bank accout with early retirement for you. Thankfully we are are far beyond taking crap from ignorant people.
The script is just fine as it is, just recycle it into another show whose characters are located in south Texas, a place where closet space is at a premium.
Maxine gets used yet again and now it's just tragic with carter. Love the hypocrisy of him being all Christian grooming and having premarital sex with JP and now Maxine. Wish they would drop this creepy storyline with carter. Can they please give jp a decent love interest because we already have him out a preacher years ago.
Texting JP from Maxine's phone and saying 'you've caught us" is the most transparent move I've ever seen 😂 If that was me, I would have shown Maxine the text and said "you didn't send this then?" and when she says no, I'd look Carter dead in the eyes and say "Well somebody must be CONFUSED" 😂😂
I've been watching some of the older storylines - County Lines for example and the writing of Hollyoaks back then was so good and still brings a tear to my eye, I've realised lately that half of the cast I don't care about since Sid and Juliet have gone. They were the best characters and watching Romeo and Peri together after Juliet's death is just so wrong and I hope it's one of the storylines that are being re-written.

You are right. I got hooked on Hollyoaks during the Breeda serial killing storyline. The show's gone down the pan since then. It's just a bunch of half-baked teen angst, with the "adults" reduced to juvenile bedhopping.
Hollyoaks kind been awful for a while, minus have few good sl's sometimes, they throw any random people together, Peri and Romeo is joke and disrespectful to Juliet so soon after her death.

Ste is so sweet and supportive and John Paul is into people in the closet... >.

I like Ste these days, and it was sweet of him to give his old friend & ex support, but he has got a bit of a nerve saying this. He messed Amy around for years and broke her heart as well as her family because he wasn't honest with her (about his sexuality among several other things). Also, he's technically a bisexual man, so he can't really speak exactly to JP's experiences as a 100% gay man--and perhaps it's a similar situation with Carter (he may be closeted self-loathing bi, or heteroromantic homosexual). Doesn't excuse Carter's behaviour and brainwashing, though, nor Brendan's. And actually, it's quite sad that after all this time Ste still doesn't see Brendan as the cruel, abusive, using person he was.
I don’t watch the show. But, from a person-centred counsellor’s viewpoint - the chap in the T is REALLY needy towards the Suit. We’re unique; we think AND therefore feel differently; uniquely.

This storyline was so unfair to John Paul. At first I hoped that Carter would end up accepting himself and he and John Paul could have a proper relationship at least for a while (I like the dynamic of the actors on screen ). Too bad the plot took a different direction at the end, but perhaps there is a chance that Carter may return in the future. On the other hand, I miss those interactions between John Paul and Ste, I've always said they work very well as friends and it would be nice to see them together more often, after all they know each other almost forever.
I wonder if James Sutton thought after his amazing one off love story with Craig back in 2007 he would be back recycling the same storyline about closet cases in 2023. 🤔😞
It really is just the same scenario, only it has a lot less impact when it's grown men in the 2020s. JP & Craig's story was so moving and powerful because for the time it was new and audacious on British telly, and because as young characters they had less control over their lives and feelings so the drama was more authentic.
Many men try to hide behind a "beard", marrying to appear "normal", Rock Hudson, Michael Barrymore, even Elton John. Others hide behind religion, becoming hyper homophobic.....some do both.....*looks away shamefully* Though I didn't actually marry, I considered it, and my "born again" phase is a part of my life I look back on with shame. I didn't attack gay men, verbally or physically, but I was literally homophobic, afraid of those who were open and honest 😔 I tried to believe they were "sinners". Until I was 12, it was still a crime to be gay and the change was far from smooth for most people
I used to be a fan of Hollyoaks but haven't seen it for two years until now... the actors mumble and communicate in grunts and poor diction. How about slowing down their chit chat and speak more clearly ??? A lot of their conversation comes across as mush. Some of these people have been there so long that they seem to consider it just a job that they want to get over with.. their acting is fake and uncomfortable.

It as common or uncommon as it always was -the number of lgbt people hasn't increased -the no of out lgbt people and representation has increased It is still a massive deal in the Evangelical church which Carter is a part of My sibling experienced a hate crime as a teenager in rural Wales after being outed at school. The family home was gaffittied with verbal abuse. Also they protested at school for their friend to be allowed to wear the school uniform of her gender identity and they formed the first lgbt club the school had ever had and experienced a lot of homophobic bullying. It is still a big deal in much of the world

I know, I know most of you are getting Craig Dean vibes from Carter but I’m getting Ryan Knight vibes and I know that most of you are wanting that drug dealing, physical abusive, sociopathic serial killer BB back in the village and you’re all glad that he was mentioned but I say that Ste should’ve also mentioned Doug and Harry and even John Paul should’ve mentioned Kieron (not the actor) but still you all should face facts that the character is never coming back to the show and the same with Craig I really ship Carter with John Paul and I am hoping he won’t give up on trying to turn things around with Carter being Gay. Also I’m confused I thought Maxine was interested in Beau “Brady 😂” but now she’s interested in Carter? When these two sleep together again I bet he’s gonna use Carter’s phone to text Maxine and tell her to come and she’ll catch them both kissing each other just like he did with Hannah when he was doing the same thing with Craig when they were Teenagers. I really feel sorry for both of them Carter’s still hiding away in his closet and John Paul having to go through the same thing he went through with Craig again I do hope these two will end up together in a good relationship for once. 😔

This storyline was so unfair to John Paul. At first I hoped that Carter would end up accepting himself and he and John Paul could have a proper relationship at least for a while (I like the dynamic of the actors on screen ). Too bad the plot took a different direction at the end, but perhaps there is a chance that Carter may return in the future. On the other hand, I miss those interactions between John Paul and Ste, I've always said they work very well as friends and it would be nice to see them together more often, after all they know each other almost forever.
I wonder if James Sutton thought after his amazing one off love story with Craig back in 2007 he would be back recycling the same storyline about closet cases in 2023. 🤔😞
It really is just the same scenario, only it has a lot less impact when it's grown men in the 2020s. JP & Craig's story was so moving and powerful because for the time it was new and audacious on British telly, and because as young characters they had less control over their lives and feelings so the drama was more authentic.

I used to be a fan of Hollyoaks but haven't seen it for two years until now... the actors mumble and communicate in grunts and poor diction. How about slowing down their chit chat and speak more clearly ??? A lot of their conversation comes across as mush. Some of these people have been there so long that they seem to consider it just a job that they want to get over with.. their acting is fake and uncomfortable.

My sibling experienced a hate crime as a teenager in rural Wales after being outed at school. The family home was gaffittied with verbal abuse. Also they protested at school for their friend to be allowed to wear the school uniform of her gender identity and they formed the first lgbt club the school had ever had and experienced a lot of homophobic bullying. It is still a big deal in much of the world
