Carter’s been smothered and suffocated by his father for years and as he’s said - he can’t just shake that off… he needs patience and intense therapy but a firm hand as well to stop what he’s doing - it’s a form of abuse!

I‘d be rooting for John Paul and Carter but I know that Carter will try to convert Lucas and that just makes my blood boil. Also John Paul is blindly running into a toxic „relationship“ with a walking red flag, AGAIN. He should have more self respect and know better by now.

They're not going to be in a relationship whilst Carter is suffering the repression he is so there is no 'toxic relationship' to speak of. The entire point is that Carter has been abused in such a way that he can't cope with coming out and being in a relationship at the minute - it will probably end with him being forcibly outed as gay and practising conversion therapy, losing everything and attempting suicide as a result. He'll have no support and won't be able to cope with it mentally.
Thank you for including conversion therapy in Hollyoaks. It's important that society understands how harmful this toxic religious-based hatred of gay people really is.
Hopefully one day they see it as crazy as growing women for being “witches”. Homophobia is outdated, disgusting and just stupid.

My dad took me to a session like that once. It was, interresting,.. there was definitely an ominous feeling in that place. I remember I complimented one guy on his beard, and he just kind of stared at me awkwardly, like I wasn't supposed to do that lol

I actually agree with sineadleahy2716. Until not that many years ago there were jobs where it would not have been advisable to come out, for example, and, if discovered you would get a dishonourable discharge which would follow you round for the rest of you life.

I’m honestly tired of this story. JP and Carter are the main focus not the conversion therapy problem. They need to write something for JP that doesn’t demean him. How Maxine can’t tell Carter is gay I don’t know. Like it’s soooo obvious. Also, give Maxine some happiness that’s long lasting.

John Paul, who do you think you are? John Paul, you are a recovering alcoholic with a lot of baggage; someone who is desperate for validation and affection. "Gay conversion therapy" is what John Paul calls the sessions that Carter is hosting. That is not how Carter sees them. If John Paul doesn't want to attend them, he does not have to. If Carter wants to continue to host the sessions, fine; who is John Paul to say he shouldn't? If Gareth and others want to attend, fine they are grown men who can make up their own mind themselves.

I would've understood this storyline in the 90s but today? The writers are obviously stuck for good gay storylines because this most certainly is not one of them.
This show is not real and is stereotyping people, including people who have religious beliefs. All of us can have immoral desires but those desires does not mean something right.
There are literally people like Carter who subjected others like them to physical and psychological abuse all because they couldn’t love their own selves. And by the time they accepted themselves and decide to live out and proud, all they got is a sorry ass apology to the people they hurt.
