Hard physical work in unfavorable conditions, all in a days work. Nothing but respect for these men and their 'grit'...
Changing a large crank on the side of the freeway, there's no way any of us in the developed nations could compete. Much respect from the u. s. a.
Developed countries have much more developed trucks. Also the budget to to the thing to a shop.
@@bend8353not at all todays engine are more frevile and requires more advance shops too fix them and down time is Crazy.
Also.....hand tools. Lol
Bro if they could do it on a nice and comfy place with all the right tools they would 😂 stop romanticizing poverty lmao
We would do it better 🥒 sucker
Full respect for these guys. Field Mechanics are skilled.
He primed the oil pump with fresh oil. Awesome.
Tell you what: I have the deepest respect for these guys! Working without a lift mostly „over head“ with none of the high-tech tools we have in the „Western World“ and still able to get that „Oldtimer“ vintage truck running! AWESOME!
I was expecting the 3 wheeled cycle cart to appear to take the broken crankshaft to the machinist to have it welded and turned down.
The 3 wheel cart broke down on the side of the road. A 2 story house on top was just too much.
The replacement crankshaft came from the machinist's stock of repaired crankshafts...
😂😂😂
I am always amazed at the resourcefulness and grit shown by the men who own and fix these trucks they would have made great pioneers. hard working and three never say die attitude. god bless these men.
В России водители Камазы зимой ремонтируют не хуже чем эти ребята
I find video's like this amazing. The very definition of "doing what I can with what I have"
All the simplest of tools, leverage. Not even so much as a ratchet set. Let alone the power tools that modern mechanics use daily. Power ratchets and such. Impact guns, hydraulic lifts.
Replacing a crank shaft on the side of the road would be unthinkable in any developed nation.
I know it’s been 2 months but there are a metric TON of kenworth mechanics who have to do this in North America.
It’s a real thing, not in a Chevy but in trucks that every hour they’re down costs $100s or $1,000s.
Спасибо, что коленвал не заварили
Я ждал, шлифовки с заваркой.
Полно видео где колено заваривают 😂
All in a days work for these guys. If it was me I would be talking about this repair for years. I’m so used to hoists and air tools that this would feel like the end of the world. Lol
A lot of know it all people giving comments here!
Most have never worked on a engine at all in their lives but know that this is no good.
Have done this kind of repair myself on my jeep truck in the driveway (replaced all the bearings on rods and crank shaft)
Truck was a daily use vehicle for fiveteen years after that repair and never had mechanical engine problems.
Sometimes you have to work with what you have when low on budget!
Balderdash! You got lucky. How do I know this? Because building engines is what I did for a living for many years. You NEVER attempt to re-bearing an engine in absolute filth!
😂 and at the end everybody stood up and clapped 👏👏👏
@@stevehicks8944
It has nothing to do with luck.
It's funny to see people comment that this kind of repair will never work because they are a master technician and work in a clean shop.
You don't need a clean shop to do this. They have been doing it at the side of the road on millions of different trucks for 50 years with no issues. In fact, i'd be ready to bet these trucks will probably outlive every single engine you assemble.
@@stevehicks8944 I had to stop watching. I wonder if they know about plastiguage
@@philipegoulet448 I want $1 USD for every mile that truck has done. I would have 3 million. I retire now, good day.
This is an honest and hardworking man. ❤
And, just like that, the Bouncy-Castle delivery man was back on the road.
Is that what that thing is ?😂
Unbelievable --- but admirable ----- these people are the poorest of the poor ----- but they have grit and tenacity that CANNOT be matched by the western world with their laziness and power tools
Do you think if this guy could get the truck to a ramp indoors with tool chests he would still do it outside? No he wouldn’t. Any mechanic who can do this inside can do this outside.
What’s most amazing is they got that thing all back together with all the bolts in a pile of parts. No separation or keeping track of things.
Who else said "Click" when he tightened those rod caps?
I was a diesel mechanic in the past, what I do envy of these people,is their ability to Crouch, great advantage...
Bravo, excellent job in tough conditions.
At the beginning I'm surprised the dude collect the oil into a jug I thought for sure they would just it pour on the ground lol but then I realize they're probably going to put that dirty contaminated oil with metal back into the engine when they're done. 😂
Job security
Oil is still worth money dirty.. They filter it and reconstitute the oil.. reuse.
Now coolant they don't give 2 fucks about... Lol
@@timeandmaterialsdanforth5511Does it get cold there ? It might be water.
Judging by tiny radiator that must be a 23 hp engine.. Lol
I love watching how mechanics from different places work wonders what u can do when u dont have a multi millon dollar shops. But one thing i notice I havent seen yet in lot of these from there u never see them use a torq wrech or a torq pattern. Not saying they do not use one but never seen usen one any the videos i seen so far. Still some of the best watching videos.
I’m so thankful for my power tools
Part of the reason this looks so easy is because this drivetrain looks at least about 30 years old, when they used to make things serviceable. Now a days most things, cars especially, are built for you to be forced to take it into the dealer for maintenance. That’s a big part of why mechanics need all the fancy tools now, because they’re forced to adapt to what people want.
that thing like 45 years at least lol
Looks like an S Series Bedford made between 1950 and 1959.
Very entertaining and fun to watch. Thanks for posting this.
"On today's episode of Just Rolled Into the Village... customer states his truck hauling an ocean vessel made a funny sound and just quit running."
😂
Not a torque wrench in sight. I did Pakistan and India by motorbike 30 years and often saw this kind of activity. All credit to them.
The copper shims are for the main caps ? Im learning here ,, Good job Sir 👍
Holy geez these guys are extreme!! And notice how each man has his position and not much talking......just completely focused!!
Wow absolutely amazing skills
God bless this mechanic. This is what they were in the past. A hero in your time of trouble. They would help you the best way they had available. Predators today waiting to rob you with a computer and air conditioning or 150,000+ dollar service truck. Greed God have mercy on us.
@14:55 with a leg kick in goes the manual transmission. Bravo
Well done! And this small gearbox... Crazy how this truck can run with such overloading...
После того как увидел что коленвал поставили несвареный перестал смотреть😂
Maybe if the truck wasn't overloaded the crank wouldn't snap. The laws of physics.
I mean it's not bad for a 50+yr old truck, everything breaks eventually.
Couple oil changes here and there might have helped too.
Crankshafts don’t support the weight of the payload…? Sooo…
Laws of physics? When the weight of the load is on the frame how does that translate to a snapped crank
@@joel354 engine is trying to move 50 tons instead of 30 tons
I was just waiting for the old crank to be carted off to the machine shop. 😂. But then they brought a new one out. 😢
Yes I was pleased to see that !! I am convinced that " Crankshaft Welds" are done for video footage and never actually get used again !!!
The driver had no time so that's why .😊
It was same crank taken and welded and brought back FYI.
@@Tadrjbs Well for a person that has no mechanical expertise and was never there ! You seem very sure that the crank was IN FACT welded !! Divine INSPIRATION ??????
Thank you 🙏 and it is fixed well done 👍 please 🙏 enjoy driving it safely ☝️👍🎥👋☮️
There are not enough people commenting on this dudes oversized load he was hauling!
It's like the giant mole on the church lady's face. We all see it but dare not comment.
Some places and some people, you do what you have to do to survive and get ahead. You patch and fix and cobble and keep going.
Overloaded is normal for ALL vehicles.
La fuerza, la entrega, el sacrificio de estas personas es en una palabra: IMPRESIONANTE, felicitaciones y que Dios los bendiga grandemente!! Saludos desde Argentina
Glad the local HOA was understanding...
I live in South Wales andthere used to be a vehicle dismantler who bought ex mod Bedfords and sold the parts for export. I have seen him strip the body off a P J K chassis, cut the chassis in half and load the parts into a sea container.
When he bought anumber of vehicles at auction they would include the allocated spare parts for that batch of vehicles. I.E 20 Bedford T K s would include 10 engines, 5 gearboxes, 3 rear avles, 3 front axles and assorted spare parts all in M.O.D packaging. I once saw an export agent tell him to take a Bedford 330 crankshaft out of the pa king caze and drop it onto a concrete floor. A ge uine crancshaft would not break whereas an imitation crank would cra ck on the big end webs.
Respect for these guys doing this on the open road with simpliest tools and this engine will for sure run far longer than any modern car 👌
You guys know your business!!!
No better place to have a break down than Pakistan……
REALLY? Precisely how many engines have you built? Me? Retired ASE Master Engine Machinist. Those bearings will have the life expectancy of mini mart sushi. There IS a valid reason WHY engines are assembled in the cleanest environment possible. This ISN’T the cleanest environment possible.
@@stevehicks8944 I am an educated, licensed and skilled mechanic with around 50 years of experience fixing cars, trucks, boats and much more…
I have worked 8.5 years in the Seismic Industry as a senior mechanic, mosttimes in African and Middle-East countries, I KNOW in what conditions these guys have to work and I KNOW they are skilled!!
Of course an overhaul is better done in a laboratory-like clean workshop…. and they know that too!
But there is no such thing and the truck needs to be fixed now-now!
They make the best of the situation!… and their feeling for mechanical parts is beyond doubt, make no mistakes about the mileage these vehicles make also after these repairs you critisize!
How many engines I have built?
I spent 5.5 years in Podgora, Croatia…. (3-2006 to 9-2011)
Together with a Croatian mechanic I estimate we had around two engines taken apart…. every week… ranging from scooters and chainsaws to 20 litre Diesel engines of boats and generators…. mosttimes the job was ‘pola-general’ (meaning ‘half-overhaul’) ie. remove the head and pistons, check the condition of everything (while it is not yet broken!) clean everything, hone the cylindres, replace gaskets, valve seals and pistonrings and assemble everything….
Sometimes bigger jobs had to be done, make one decent engine out of two broken ones… and where needed we’ld take crankshafts, blocks and cylindreheads for reconditioning, boring, welding cracks aso. to a machineshop in Split.
We worked mostly without documentation… relying on ‘mechanics-experience’ for torqueing bolts and judging condition of parts like bearings, cylindreheads and so on….
We gave ONE YEAR WARRANTY on every engine fixed and had very little issues….
I am sure ‘you’ know how it is all done in the ‘ideal world’…. and do a better job than ‘us’….. but while charging a multitude of what we charged many of our costumers were, and are, unable to afford that…. and are happy with our job!!
If you don’t believe me call ANYONE in Podgora,Croatia, and ask them about the jobs performed by ‘Neno Budan’ (my Croatian friend) and ‘Hank mechanicar Nizozemats’ (Henk the Dutch mechanic)…. every time I go back for a holiday they BEG me to come back and stay there as a mechanic!!….
We must ‘ve done SOMETHING right….
@@stevehicks8944wow!!! A real live master in the comments section!! These guys pulled off what we would call impossible here. Super respect for their ingenuity and work ethic. If YOU were stuck on the side of the road you would beg them to help you.
@@hitekredneck109probably not
@@stevehicks8944 upload videos of yourself building one or shut up ya old fart.
This was incredibly impressive. On the side of the road, no power tools, no gloves, probably 100 degrees. These poor guys probably didn’t make 100 bucks between them. Americans would have quit and went home after complaining for hours. Although installing main bearings with no assembly grease is a no no. So is no antifreeze in a radiator. 😂
Excellent job ! 👍
I love the torque spec.😂
German torque, goodntight
to calculate torque specs = you need to test the mechanic hands strength 😂
good thing it's not gross overload or top heavy
Ha. I like the bed right next to the truck. Work on that thing for days. Snooze next to it at night.
Battlefield engineering respect
I wish we had such a sterile work place with no chance of any contamination of the new odds and sods.
Hats off to you for your dedication to the job.
Si el cigüeñal se rompió por un problema en las bancadas,lo más probable es que la reparación no dure mucho,se romperá de nuevo......
Wow! Good job getting that crank replaced without any help from modern tools or equipment. Very few people could manage this.
What is the load rating on that truck?... Yes
I was hoping to see him weld up the broken crank and polish the journal on the side of the road. Dang it.
Oh man if that happened in the states it would of been down for 6 months and 10k later.
Wow work whit the , basic tools. I repair similar engine but have , tools for everything. Congratulations the mechanic.
Was that a new crank ! or as usual weld the old one up ???
I think it was a second hand crank. Doubt there'd be any new parts for the old Bedford's. 😂
@@pauljcampbell2997
if they found a new original it will probably cost more then a used good condition engine or maybe a truck😂
The crank just falls into 2 pieces 😂 real impressive that they can fix it back to operating standards.
Beautifully loaded truck, the end picture is cinema like👌
Was a bit disappointed to see them just replacing the crank with a new one. Was expecting some awesome welding! What's the truck hauling? Feathers? Looks like a big fluffy pillow on top!
Brilliant
You'll see this all over Asia and Africa. Why cant modern manufacturers design a vehicle as simple and rugged as those old Bedfords?
Sooooooooooo refreshing
Amazing👌🏻
Sounded like it was banging again , perhaps big eng bolts were not tentioned properly, 3 minute's warranty applying
3 minutes 3 kilometers or 3 kebabs which ever comes first...any sand in the crankcase is free no charge....hahahaha
Not going lie i completely expected them to weld it 😅 i was thinking the whole time why would he drop it like that and get it all dirty too 😂😂😂🤦♂️
Must admit I was expecting the old stick welder to come out on that crank the off to the machine shop.
Gotta give these guys A for effort, but I shudder to think about the by feel torque specs 😢
After being slscked off and tightened 5 or 6 times, torque settings are a waste of time. Keep pulling until you think a bolt or nut is as tight as the others. U .N .C. bolts could take much hoghe
R loadings than Metric and Fine threads.
Was honestly expecting jbweld but good work.
Thank you!
😂 the guy who poured the coolant right in front of the truck instead of walking 10' away to do it
Damn, that truck only has a six banger, with that load.
Я думал коленвал клеить будут
Good video ❤
I never wore gloves. After 20 years of this^ I started getting sores on my hands that never healed, went to the bone. It was an aggressive cancer that burned like FIRE. I only have a thumb and index finger and most of my wrist on my right hand, no feeling.
How long did the whole job take i wonder. My local garage has a 2 week wait before they could even start.
Since the crank broke , I wondered if they were going line bore the block, or at least check it. I guess not, I personally wouldn’t have that degree of luck…😮
Я такого еще не видел , обычно масло заливают после сборки двигателя
Claramente se les quebró al quitarlo. Lo bueno que estos cracks construyen lo que quieran 😁👍
Awesome!
Overloaded me think under serviced for sure 🤔😉👍🏻
It's straw not that heavy

Хорошо когда на дорогах нет ядовитых реагентов как в России. Машины могут служить практически вечно.
Основное это не реагенты, а сухой жаркий климат.
Wonder how many miles are on that thing
How many parts did they have to remove to get to the oil pan unobstructed like it is at the beginning?
None. Therewas a big gap between the front svle and the sump. No oil coolers, intercoolers or any other gumph, just the basic neccessities.
@@user-mv6li7fi8eI put new leaf springs in my 79 f150 off the side of the road.

Day use what they have in actuality they can fix things with a very little tool that are brave
Simple motors can be repaired with simple tools. Didn’t notice a OBD port😂
I wonder what caused the original crank to break
As someone who has spent decades working on engines, I could write a novel about the things that were done incorrectly here. This engine will not last a fraction of what its service life should be after at rebuild. 😂
The driver of the truck must of been granny shifting not double clutching like he should to break a crank like that
Doesn't matter if it breaks down after an inch or a mile..
Not a torque wrench in site, old clutch going back in🤦🏻. Fair play to the guys for doing such a job Roadside but why not just torque it all up and at least fit a new clutch plate! I'm surprised they didn't just weld it back together and file the weld down so they wouldn't need to remove it😂
I'm surprised they didn't just weld the broken crank.
