- Is Jesus the whiteman's God? Byron Sarracino, from the Laguna Pueblo in New Mexico takes on this popular misconception that Jesus and Christianity belong to anglo people. It's a question that he was personally confronted by a family member. It's something that he has really thought through.
Byron is speaking from a Christian Native American - First Nations perspective. He points out that people from all over the world share a common faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
Related: Christianity is not the white man's religion. It is not the whiteman's gospel. Pictures of a white Jesus are inaccurate and misleading. Christianity did not have it's beginnings in Europe. Being a Christian is not tied to or dependent on one's ethnicity. Jesus came for the Human race. The Gospel is God's answer for the need of every person no matter their skin color, language, or identity. Jesus came for people from every tribe and nation. He said Himself, in the Bible in John 3:16, "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life."

I grew up on the Turtle Mountain Reservation in North Dakota. Our family was Catholic. Now many have fallen away from that and have turned to Native Culture, but those who remain are mixing the faith with Native Culture practices. Smudging, sweats, burning sage, putting bundles of sage in their cars and in the corners of the rooms in their homes, offering of tobacco, etc. etc. I never grew up doing that, but I did like to go to Pow Wows for entertainment purposes more or less. I think it’s a beautiful part of the Native Culture, but I know by being a born again spirit filled Christian that we no longer need to do all that other stuff because Jesus paid it all and there is nothing more to do than to just accept His Redeeming sacrifice as He said “It is Finished”! There is nothing more to do than to just live our lives following Him! I am an enrolled member of the tribe, but it’s just a number, it really does nothing for me. I am first and foremost a believer and follower of The One True and Living King, The Son of God, Jesus Christ and His Holy Spirit to lead and guide me into all truth! Thank you Jesus! And mixing various ritual items in with the worship of Yahweh creates the same type of situation as occurred in ancient Israel when they compromised their God directed Way to approach the Most High with idolatry from the other people around them. People who were doing things that were done for appeasing spirits and not the True God and Creator Who revealed Himself directly to the sons of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and Who used the lineage of his friend Abraham to bring us all back to Himself through Jesus Christ the eternal Son of God. It's a tricky situation. Many cultural traditions are good and healthy. But the religious ritual are belief of a different Way other than Jesus Christ as the Way Truth and the Life. Every continent has a pagan history of separation from the True Way. We all are from the same start up couple of people. We were separated to various regions and they all have a history of seeking connections to the Creator. But not from Him. From other sources. Only Jesus Christ can save Any of us. Some of His greatest criticism was towards the religious leaders of His time. For elevation of their own traditional system above the revealed Way from the Father. Making it harder to get to God than God ever made it. We have a friend in Jesus, Who lives inside of the ones trusting in His blood and sacrificed life to save them. His resurrection justified us before God the Father. He paid the Way. Follow Him

No where did you get that crazy idea? It started in the Middle East, In Bethlehem. The people were not Native American, but they were brown skinned people with black hair and beautiful eyes. No Jesus was NOT European, He was Jewish, Born among the Jewish people as one if them.
Well that would not be correct. Jesus was a pure ethnic Israelite from the tribe if Judah. So Jesus would not look like the people of the land. Those brown people were foreign nations. Remember only 42,360 Israelites returned to the land!

According to him, His people taught that a man came to the Native people and told them what they needed to know, He was snow white, hair was snow white. and He had promised to come back. Jesus had a great grandmother from Ethiopia(queen Sheba), Ruth was a Moabite, and the wise men were likely from China. The man who was ordered to help Jesus carry his cross was a black man from Cyrene..... Jesus was killed by his own people, and he conqured death so all people who believe in him can live
I've heard it like this: as Indians, we knew who our Creator was, who was the evil spirit, and who was the Benevolent Spirits. We needed no Europeans to define this for us.
Even if we tried to have unlearned it, it would still be who we are.
We know now also the Abrahamic Christian Faith, and again, even if we attempt to unlearn it, we really can not undo the fact that it shapes our perspective.

From a white man: North American continent was very close to being Eden before white men came along. Appeared to have been a strong belief in the Great Spirit (which must have been God due to this belief being so widespread). Did not create any pollution. Everything made from natural materials. Probably very little violence except maybe an infrequent skirmish between tribes. (Interestingly, it appears that native Americans have the genetic characteristic of not growing beards, more so than the sinoasians.)

Nice sentiment, but the historical records show that there was a great deal of violence among the pre-Columbian native Americans: slavery, murder, torture, raids, kidnapping, human sacrifice, wars, genocide, scalping, rape, you name it. We have this naive idea that before the awful white man came, everything was wonderful. It wasn't. Native Americans are part of the fallen human race, just like Europeans and everyone else. The good news is that God sent His Son Jesus to die for all of us, regardless of our ethnic background or any other superficial dividing lines.

Why do many people hate that Jesus was born into the promised people? Because of Gods promise to Abraham, Jesus was to be born unto one of the Hebrew Tribes. Christianity came from Judaism, which came from the middle east. If you consider Indians and Persians and Palestinians to be "White", as they are technically Caucasian, then technically it is a White religion. If by "White", you mean European, the Europeans were converted to Christianity in the 15th century.

I can´t confirm or deny Christ truth be told, who dares to? I just know that if a man like that comes along with a positive message about eternal life and redemption i´ll have to say yay to it rather than nay. Then what it all adds up to in the end beats me. Religion in itself can be rather tainted and lame, it needs to be from the source and inclusive where it applies and the individual can not invoke their own agenda within it for selfish purposes or with some unclean motives.
To refer to it in a colored way is to me boring and pointless, stop seeing others in colors and make a big deal out of it, we´re all humans.

Jesus is not just a white person religion He died for everyone's sins so that we ALL can ask forgiveness for our sins and follow Jesus and go to heaven when we die. If we don't follow Jesus, then we burn in hell forever
