Tiff, I just commented that. I just applied for piano lessons and I am 62 years old. I am old enough to remember the Beatles when they came on Ed Sullivan's show. This is one of my favorite songs.
@@leahdoc19 Just go to UA-cam and type in "The Beatles" on the Ed Sullivan Show. It's kind of funny how all of the girls in the audience would be screaming and crying. Crazy!
The arrangement of this song is utterly spectacular... playing that first two minutes unaccompanied (but carrying it brilliantly on piano) is one thing, but bringing the band in on the middle eight break is inspired... and that ending...
I blasted this song on my boom box outdoors at midnight in San Pedro, California when some high school friends and I rang in the New Year in 1985. This song always sounded a bit apocalyptic to me (the melody is haunting), and I thought, "Wow, we made it to 1985." We all graduated high school later that year and went our separate ways to college. I adore this song, but I always feel a twinge of sadness whenever I hear it.
That is something he did that some singers with an extreme vocal range didn't do. I think it is because he is just a genius composer. He rarely used his whole vocal range in one song. Very rarely. He suited his range to the song that he wrote. So it wasn't flashy or show-off-y. While I love Freddie Mercury, he made his range obvious by writing songs with ranges that flew all over the octaves. Paul's taste was to use one or two octaves per song, but he could sing almost four octaves overall. Amazing talent.
An exception to this is "Don't Let it Get You Down.' Goes from low range to high range in that song, very effectively. But it suited the music he wrote for it.
He is EXTRAORDINARY just like John said. I think he’s a musical genius. I notice in watching some of his works in progress that he goes into a trancelike state, another place almost and it’s not an act. Look at his eyes.
well said. I don't want to say the music possesses him, but it seems to flow through him from somewhere else. I'm not a religious person but Paul McCartney is surely magical. There is something otherworldly about his gift.
Oh my god I know exactly what you're talking about, I've noticed it so many times too, even watching Get Back, when he was absolutely not stoned whatsoever
Paul wrote this song and incorporated an orchestra to make it better because it was not about him. This is a keyboard version. If you look at the orchestra version he had 3 drummers and a horn section when he put it together. Brilliant mind behind music.
If you are talking about the album version Mccartney plays guitar, bass and drums, and he's the only drummer. I sometimes wonder how people can put total crap on the comment section.
Sir Paul’s work from 73 to 75 was Gold for me. Band on the run and Wings over America were so fun, my neighbors and even people in traffic must have hated me.
The quintessential Paul Mccartney. People should aspire to expression at this level and keep such a positive take on the whole thing. Words fail me. Love this guy.
If Beethoven were alive today he would likely be amazed by this masterpiece and be sitting, tapping his foot with a big smile on his face. 'Just like us'.
This guys talent is beyond words. Fuck man, this all came out of his head. As in, he just happened to think this one up. This is the first time I've seen him sing solo like that with the improvising. Sometimes when I watch him perform, I always wonder who in the world could do that, or has done that, better than him ? Nobody, no how, no way. Not even close. He's a virtuoso. And it seems like he's not even trying. Think about this, if you compare him and his other stuff, to any rock band in the world, he's on a different tangent. Best part, I'm really high. It's great weed music.PJ in Vancouver
Been a Beatles fan since I was 16, I'm 25 now and only just dove into this album. I've always know the titular single and apparently a few others I didn't realize were McCartney songs. But I only just heard this song a few days ago and it gives me the same awe and amazement I had when I first listened to the Beatles. This dude is literally channelling this amazing art, what a fucking god.
B side treasure I found listening to Band on the run.. when I was 10 yrs old. The first being.. I saw her standing/ a side.. got to get you into my life.
Macca, proves just what a great performer he is when he really cuts loose on a vocal, as Darryl alludes to, he lives and breaths music. Had the pleasure of seeing him perform in 1990 @ NEC and he didn't disappoint. Heard many Beatles numbers for the first time 'live' in his two and a half hour, high octane performance. Paul never was a side-man. Lennon knew from the off that this man would push him all the way and together, they were simply magical.
Incredibly talented musician. Watching him play that piano - wow. His love & passion for music comes through for sure on this video. Wow just wow. His passion - all day every day. Thank you, Paul, for your love of music & the resulting artistry has made the lives of many more enjoyable. Rock on.
On no one ever left alive in 1985, will ever do She may be right She may be fine She may get love but she won't get mine 'Cause I got you Oh, oh I, oh oh I Well I just can't enough of that sweet stuff My little lady gets me high Oh my mama said the time would come When I would find myself in, love with you I didn't think I never dreamed That I would be around, to see it all come true Whoa oh oh I, oh oh I Well I just can't get enough of that sweet stuff My little lady gets me high Ah no one ever left alive in 1985, will ever do She may be right She may be fine She may get love but she won't get mine 'Cause I got you Oh oh I, oh oh I Well I just can't get enough of that sweet stuff My little lady left me high (Shake it, shake it, don't break it)
Actually the verses are - Well, just can't get enough of that sweet stuff My little lady gets behind. .Later in the song the verses changes to Well I just can't enough of that sweet stuff My llittle lady left behind Paul's playful and subtle way of talking about sex. If you watch One Hand Clapping you can see the naughtiness when he sings those verses.
I can't imagine how fun it must have been to be Paul McCartney in the studio in the 1970s smoking a joint and making songs. Tough job, but somebody had to do it.
I love the playful attitude Paul brings to his complex gift.We should all feel this playful in our approach to our own creations. It kind of reminds me of the 17th/18thcentury composers who showcased this kind of playfulness in their work . Genius , pure and simple.
What a fantastic jewel of a video!!! I mean, this is probably Paul's best post Beatle tune which, together with all songs from the RAM album, is right up there quality wise with all his best Beatle compositions. The crescendo of this song is phenomenal and the feeling Paul adds while performing it speaks for its own genius self!! Bravisimo!
I was 5 years old when this song came out in 1973. I remember listening to this in late 1984, the year George Orwell wrote about, and thinking wow isn't the concept of time weird? Now it's 2020 and I'm still listening to Paul who would of thought?
Wow!! The first half of the song shows a great one man acoustic version of an aggressive song . . . amazing what Sir Paul could do without many instruments.
I remember listening to tracks from this album on the radio. Jet, Band on the Run, etc. So I bought the album & finally got to this underrated song, (last song on album)1985. They NEVER played this on the radio. I was floored. It's really nothing as a song but the more I played it the more I loved it. The orchestra at the end, the horn section, the ending. In my opinion, cranked up, top 10 endings of all time. My favorite Wings song. I just would of liked to of heard it in concert.

This song is hypnotizing. I am a poor piano player but I am inspired to get better at it just to learn this :) .
That's a wonderful choice of song, I just learned this, a few minutes ago I would be able to play it! I wish you the best of luck with it! You're watching pianojohn113's tutorial? Cause if not, I can strongly recommend it, he's clear as can be!
That's fantastic you just learned it! It's the type of song you can play on repeat and never get tired of it. Thank you so much for the tip, I will look at pianojohn's tutorial and surely be able to play it :) .
Tiff, I just commented that. I just applied for piano lessons and I am 62 years old. I am old enough to remember the Beatles when they came on Ed Sullivan's show. This is one of my favorite songs.
Leslie Egan good luck! 👍 I’m 15 and wish I saw them on Ed Sullivan :)
To sing and play that amazing song has got to be pretty damn hard and take lots of practice ha ha. This is one of my favorite McCartney solo songs
THATS the King of POP!!!!!!!!
@@enoshornet the King of Music
indeed, plus the Moog filter sweep with the brass is simply musically brilliant
@ecw14...you mean the king of music versatility, genius, and pure magic in the whole damn universe!
He's having so much fun. I can't even. I love him. :D
Only Paul could sing a song like he was holding his nose and make it one of the best rock songs ever. The guy is just brilliant.
Paul is a master at changing his voice range on different songs listen to So bad he sings falsetto
@@yes2day100 if you're talking about don't let me down that's John singing with Paul's backing vocals
@@thebookofeli849 no they were talking about Paul’s solo song called Don’t Let it Bring You Down. It’s really good, so check it out.
@@ewest14 thanks for the recommendation I'll be checking that out
4:29 to 4:36 . . that's the portrait of a fucking rock star
He is EXTRAORDINARY just like John said. I think he’s a musical genius. I notice in watching some of his works in progress that he goes into a trancelike state, another place almost and it’s not an act. Look at his eyes.
He was also quite stoned and STILL incredibly amazing Just love this piece A very talented, accomplished musician 😊
I sometimes wonder how people can put total crap on the comment section.
him playing the piano and singing by itself was incredible
There’s so many things that make Thw Beatles perfect and one is McCartneys voice
Such a fantastic song
This my favourite thing of all time
Elisia Raybould me too
Genius Macca. I think this is one of his most underrated songs ever. Pure class.
ポールの歌が聞けるだけでも幸せです、サイコー
This man plays with his voice.
@Joy Stinson
in each song, a different voice!
This is a great song, and his voice is a beast here. I hate to admit but I really miss Paul in 70s.
Sir Paul’s work from 73 to 75 was Gold for me. Band on the run and Wings over America were so fun, my neighbors and even people in traffic must have hated me.
oh my gosh. this is the most amazing thing I’ve seen all day! Paul is so talented in every way! and that range in his voice! INCREDIBLE
The look on his face, priceless. It's like he knows something about something.
I wish i could give a thousand thumbs up for this! This man is impecable and incomparable. Love him
The quintessential Paul Mccartney. People should aspire to expression at this level and keep such a positive take on the whole thing. Words fail me. Love this guy.
If Beethoven were alive today he would likely be amazed by this masterpiece and be sitting, tapping his foot with a big smile on his face. 'Just like us'.
Absolutely brilliant. It doesn't get better than this!
You cannot be unhappy while listening to this song.
I really love the chord progressions in this and you can tell Paul does too!
It's great weed music.PJ in Vancouver
ate devoured and overall served, he is a amazing vocalist and this raw performance is absolutely iconic imo!!
I played 1985 too many times during that pivotal year. Now it's 40 years on. At least Paul still lives! This is great. Smoke em if you got em.
This should have 73
million views. If he were 25 years old now or something like that, he would get that many views.
Rock on.
Paul is the greatest songwriter of the 20th century (in my opinion).
This is absolutely fantastic!
Just tracked this down after hearing it on the radio...would never have guessed it was Paul singing wow
Greatest song writer of the 20th century.
I guess you never heard of Hank Williams, Kris Kristopherson or Sam Cooke to name a few.
@@jamesdavis6036I guess you never heard of opinions
Paul's solo work proves who the most valuable member of the Beatles was. They were all great, he was just the greatest.
Over how many albums? Like 25 lol?
Ask Bob Dylan who impressed him the most.
On no one ever left alive in 1985, will ever do

When I would find myself in, love with you

I never dreamed
That I would be around, to see it all come true

Well, just can't get enough of that sweet stuff
My little lady gets behind.
.Later in the song the verses changes to
Well I just can't enough of that sweet stuff
My llittle lady left behind
Paul's playful and subtle way of talking about sex. If you watch One Hand Clapping you can see the naughtiness when he sings those verses.
this song should have been # 1 for the entire year of 1985
They NEVER played it. No air time. Who makes these decisions?
Bravisimo!
Jose Antonio Duclaud just for the record (pun intended) this song is from the 'Band on the Run' album not 'RAM'
I certainly realize that James; I meant to indicate that this song (indeed in BOTR) and all the tunes on "RAM" are Paul's best work.
Jose I totally agree about RAM. I wore that record out and at one point could sing all the songs, I new the lyrics to them all!

Wow! Just saw this amazing video for the first time and that just proves that Paul is a genius. THE BEST!!!
A super talent unlike anything the world has ever seen!
God, I love this...and Paul. Completely badass.
Always loved this song. Great video. His stance at the end and then he makes his Band on the Run album cover face . Makes me smile.
Paul has always been mesmerizing in his work.
Paul is really fantastic. I love him forever and ever.
I love that raspy voice! "Shake it don't break it!"
At the age of 62 this song still moves me, groovy baby groovy 🤔🤔
His singing on this recording is so great here!
I was 5 years old when this song came out in 1973. I remember listening to this in late 1984, the year George Orwell wrote about, and thinking wow isn't the concept of time weird? Now it's 2020 and I'm still listening to Paul who would of thought?
Wow!! The first half of the song shows a great one man acoustic version of an aggressive song . . . amazing what Sir Paul could do without many instruments.
one-man orchestra
One of the best raw recordings there is, this is so good to listen to
I remember listening to tracks from this album on the radio.
