Star Trek: First Contact soundtrack - Flight of the Phoenix

- From composer Joel Goldsmith, this piece was not included in the original motion picture soundtrack when first released. This piece was played during the finale when the Phoenix was preparing to make the historic first human warp flight, while being pursued by the Borg-hijacked Enterprise.
This was one of the most memorable musical moments in the movie. Joel Goldsmith did a bang up job with it. I always liked the way he incorporated the Star Trek theme into this section in a way that sounded like the theme was 'evolving' into the triumphant theme it would eventually become. It was very appropiately done considering the context within the film. The theme was evolving the same way humanity was in the act of 'growing up' as a species in perhaps the most pivotal moment in the history of the Federation.
Just 46 years, 9 months, and 17 days till first contact!!! Who else is excited?!
Actually, I'm more worried about WW3... if Star Trek is our canonical timeline.
that's like in 10 years time, right?
Yep, 2026. We didn't have the eugenic wars, though...
Just 2026?! They timed it quite correctly. If we take their reality into account, then the war will turn nuclear and leave a short nuclear winter. With the recent tension between Russia and the US we could be much closer. I just hope we realize it's starting and don't get a surprise. Fifty years later The Eugenic Wars for you, sir!
Give it a few months, it will happen.
"Is that Earth?"
"That's it!"
"... it's so small... "
"It's about to get a whole lot bigger..."
That's what she said
Deanna to Will; Is That it? It's so small......Will to Deanna; "It's about to get a whole lot bigger "
1:27 I drive my new car off the lot

I can't resist: in the alternate Star Trek Universe, the Phoenix is launched and Jimmy Stewart is piloting it to a crash landing.
"DATA!"
"Resistance. Is. Futile."

Data : [grab the Queen]
Queen : Ahhh....Ahhhh.....Ahhhhh.....AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!
If you know what I mean.
+Dr Galactose That exchange was pretty weirdly funny.
+Dr Galactose Yes, I do.
[Queen loses her grip on Picard and she and Data fall into the coolant.]

what a cold expression for such a wonderfull present :P
Best of all the Star Trek Movies! The best for Sci Fi / Star Trek Fans as for the "casual" cinema visitor.
Best of Both Worlds, so to say ;)
oh my Q that reference.. you really are wonderful.. almost like that young lady from venus.. who's body was shaped like a.. ***CAPTAIN TO SECURITY***
the music of Star Trek first Contact it was great for me that I'm listen to it and it was fantastic
"Watch your future's end."
"Resistance is futile...bitch"
God I wish he'd said it that way.
DATA!!! >:o
"Speed"
"20,000 kilometres per second!"
Nice to know the superior metric system lives on :)
Also ironic, because Star Trek is American, and they use imperial ofc
@@joshfish2 Even the US Americans can learn and adapt.
It's the metric system used in scientific communications, so everybody is consistent
I didn't realize they re-released the soundtrack. This being missing always bothered me. Sooooo many tracks with the Borg clomping around yet this was left off?
This is an amazing comment - Clomping. Brilliant.
"Plasma injectors online...nacelles charged, everything's looking good--I think we're ready!"
Engage!
Remember that the same composer for Stargate SG1 and Atlantis scored this track!
@@ja4282 yeah
Wonder why it was omitted? As they are approaching light speed the build in the brass section is brilliant. Possibly my favorite startrek score!
SWEET JESUS!
Relax doctor! I'm sure they're just here to give us a send off!
Chris Evans 50 seconds later Enterprise fires Quantum Torpedoes.
it was probably interpreted as a big gun salute by riker and geordi, at the time.
Geordie we gotta abort!!!
@@Zoie3x8 chance is they didn't even notice it. Phoenix didn't have the sensors to detect a proton torpedo incoming.
What's interesting to me is that even though Borg "society" mostly resembles that of social insects, I always felt their associated music had a reptilian feel to it. That's just my interpretation, not sure how others feel. As a side note, it makes good music for gamers battling zombies.
1:56
Cochrane: ‘SWEET JESUS!’
Riker: ‘Relax doctor im sure they’re just here to give us a send off’
Who's spent a night in Bozeman and who has built a model replica of warp ship on STO?
Thanks man! I just finished extracting this part directly from the movie file, but now i can listen this track without actor's voices in the background!
A shame it wasn't included in the O.S.T.
Well Actually....OP you are 100% wrong on who composed this piece of music. Jerry could not come back and do this re write. So Joel Goldsmith...Jerry's Son...Composed this wonderful action sequence of Music.
My only complaint with this movie in terms of the editing... I really wish the Borg stuff had just gotten the EFF out of the way between the launch and warp flight of the Phoenix. At that point I didn't care about the borg stuff. I wanted to see the Phoenix stuff. Cochrane, Riker and all of them down on the planet were doing something that mattered to me.
Cochrane's reaction when the Phoenix went to warp was hilarious.
"Watch, your futures' end" 2:46
3:11 DATA!!!!!
"Resistance...is few-till."
3:46 "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!"
Great music, Joel Goldsmith I think scored this cue? Doesn't sound like Jerrys music.
TB1M1 Starting at 1:30 oh yes it sure does! Check out Supergirl.
you're right. it is Joel's.
3:41 first ever warp
Perfect mood music for No Man's Sky
3:08--DATA!!!
"Resistance...is few-till."
One Borg ship managed to destroy several Federation ships. They should have sent more, fools. I'll never understand the Borg, they have so many ships but they are like a silly AI. They don't send the bloody ships over there!
I think one possible reason for that is that they think they're superior to literally everyone else. So, they get cocky and send one ship (because it's not worth sending more).
But they've got Picard and/or Janeway to deal with..
bandora
Considering that the one that rules them all is a conscious humanoid, it would be no surprise if the Borg behaved strategically...EMOTIONAL (Take That, Borg Queen!). So the Borg are not like a bad AI but like a bad, cocky player.
I had never thought that posibility. If not, it would be a major plot hole.
Honestly, I would love to see an epic movie about a Borg invasion of the Federation (like a MAJOR invasion by the Borg).. Something similar to what happened in DS9 (between the Dominion and the Federation)... And having Janeway + Picard with their respective crews team up to go to the source and then defeat them. Also, show the struggle between the Federation trying to save itself vs save it's values.
bandora
That's unlikely, unfortunately, because Janeway destroyed the trans-warp conduit leading to Earth. Damn you, Janeway!
Although, yes, it would be great.
1:29 "ENGAGE!" :)
cue riker and geordi looking at eachother, and grinning like fools 8D
2:15
:D Let's bring the warpcore online *click*
Good
Star Trek's crystal ball is cloudy. In the candid words of William Shatner years ago, "We made the whole thing up--get a life!!!"
1:53 SWEET JESUS!
„She’s so small…“
3:45
This track is not on the original soundtrack. I wonder why? Its on a limited edition ST: First Contact soundtrack.
What would it be like to be on this ride!
It would be very interesting to reach the moon in less than a second 😅
Sounds like 2009 Star Trek
JRGProjects I don’t get why Michael Giacchino didn’t use some of this.
2:55 "watch your future end"
Watch the 90s end
What about the country music during launch
1:54: "Sweet Jeepers!" I know Zefram didn't say that, but I refuse to take the name of the Good Lord in vein.
3:08 DATA!!!
Who the hell is Joel Goldsmith... I know a Jerry Goldsmith but who is Joel....is it his brother he let out of his basement and Jerry was like 'oh it's ok Joel you can do this one we go 50/50 split on the dosh'
Your comment made me chuckle. 😂
Joel is Jerry's son.
@@anselford3753 was Jerry's son. Joel died in 2012.
