It's not fair that people who worked with Monica didn't tell her to not take anything. Or maybe her bosses didn't tell her either because that's what they do usually in workplaces, they don't tell you something you should know and fire you for not knowing.

She had gifted her friends with the five steaks and an eggplant for Phoebe since she was a vegetarian. She had obtained the meat and the vegetable illegally and didn't know that she had done so.

She didn't steal them, she got them for free from the one who sold her other food in the restaurant and she brought those home as a gift and gave her friends without knowing that it would get her fired.
