How the hell does this channel come out with reveal content for this car faster than literally every car related magazine or news site on the internet jesus christ they are impressive.
Because it’s a truly aryan channel, trust me on this one
@@bratanini The almighty Thomas god
It’s also probably because their in Germany and their basically the biggest car channel from Germany meaning at least for German car premiers they can get videos out the first.
Ever heard of an embargo? They get to film a video with the car early, but can’t publish it until the global reveal time designated by BMW.
Thomas is let in everywhere thanks to his personal charm :p
The 2 Series is an MVP that looks like a tall hatchback. It makes the 1 Series almost redundant: A hatchback that looks like a bloated crossover.
Multi Vurpose Pehicle

I would never imagine that I could be thrilled by a 2 series active tourer..this car ticks so many boxes, looks good and offers comfort above its class....
Looks a very good car, only thing i am concerned about is the real MPG figure on the plug in versions once the battery goes flat.Cannot find that info on BMW website.
Thomas, you have done it again! First on UA-cam for the new Active Tourer. I have a current Active Tourer and it’s been a fantastic car. Definitely getting the new one.
in your service!
Looks way better than the 1 series to me. Great video, as usual!
And better value for money!
I have BMW Active Tourer 2016,but this one is just stunning,OMG! Love it!
From ex owner of BMW of the "right" era ... finally this 2er isn't bad! Look them better from live.
At least MPVs are coming back! Love this car! The interior is beautiful and I love the tech! Better than the 1 series!
Usually most BMWs nowadays don't look that good, but this one is actually nice. Also nice review as usual Thomas!
Where is the rotary dial for the infotainment!? That used to be the best part of a BMW
Now WHERE IS THE IDRIVE CONTROLLER
Best bmw design in years
LOVE the way Thomas pronounces kidney, makes me chuckle every time. Great work as ever.
Nice interior. But where is the iDrive Controller? Step backwards, in That case. Also the new door-handles are difficult to use in case of rescue after a crash...
Looking forward to Thomas's Driving Lounge for the performance PHEV version.
Still can't get used to the ostentatious cartoonish grills.
Sad to see the temp controls going to the touch screen. Still love the tactile rotary knobs from older BMWs.
Seats look a little wider than the X1's very narrow seat base, did they feel that way to you @Thomas?
Great detailed first review as always!
Thomassssss! My day just got better! Greetings from the UK! 😊
best greetings =)
Great improvements with the interiors and the dash. Hope it carries over to X1 and iX1 too. Don't you think?
I adore this interior, its just so harmonious and elegant.. and the combination of color, descret ambient lightning.. its just perfect.. As a mechanical engineer, i can say this is the best interior i have seen in a while.
I enjoyed watching the Video Review 😄. The first Motoring Journalist to review the Car
Fully agree with your comment about Tiesto! 😉 Great first review as always. Greetings from 🇦🇹
Extraordinarily thorough review without driving the vehicle.😲😁
Thank you Thomas and Jonas (spelling?).👍
I genuinely love the way you review cars 👍
thanks keep joining!
@@autogefuehl will do! From the UK and just found your channel, trying to watch all your previous videos but so many to catch up one 😂
Although it was never a real bmw this car turned out looking better than I thought
Spot on Thomas regarding Trance music! 1999 was the best year :)
sure is =)
the interrior really nice!
I do love MPV and this look pretty good. I hope in the future once of those became mine
I like it, i never thought i would get used to the new kidney styles, but I did
Great review Thomas...far more practical than the 1 Series and looks much better than the Mercedes B-Class.
Exterior design is better than most other BMWs of late. It would be even better with a normal grill. Interior is impressive
great review as always! and yes Thomas is right Oldschool TRANCE is the way to go!!!
yesssss
The comment with Tiesto is hilarious ;) ... usual Thomas, cool, direct, professional !!!!!!!
It’s an improvement I guess. 7 series grill is really weird though. Tech and interior is great.
The big grilled it’s for aircond
@@JbJ_17 you could Aircon a aircraft hanger with the size of that monstrosity
I think this car looks really, really good! Nice job BMW! I have to admit that i have a soft spot for this car. I rented the old model last year for three weeks when i went to Norway for vacation. It was the 225xe and i was definitely positively surprised about its performance!😅 I def didn’t expect it and it had a nice “butt-feel” when eg overtaking. The e-motor being in the rear made it so much more nicer to drive than those with the e-motor integrated in the transmission. This way the e-motor is a direct drive and has that EV feel to it, and is much more efficient as it’s not using the gears. Due to the positive experience of the 225 xe i rented, i decided to trade my RRS SD300 for a p400e. The delivery time was almost 6 months so i bought an i3s, that i have wanted to get for so many years. I got the i3s last September and the p400e in January ‘21. The i3s is my primary car now and has clocked over 27000km on it since, the Range Rover Sport has a bit over 5000kms, lol!😅Why i earlier mentioned that it’s good that the BMW has the e-motor in the, is because i compare it to the RRS, which has its motor integrated in the transmission, so it goes through the gears in EV mode. It definitely doesn’t feel as smooth as the BMW did with direct drive, which actually feels very much like my i3s. I am hoping RR is very soon releasing an EV version of the new RRS, will def trade it in! Otherwise it will be a Rivian or similar. But holy smokes, 326PS on the new 230e hybrid, that must be fun to drive!❤️
Thanks for the video. Will there be a 7 seater option, given the gran tourer is discontinued?
Will this new 2AT have BMW's semi-autonomous driver assistance systems? (which is currently lacking in all models below the 3-series)
Side and interior infotainment layout are very similar to MB B Class. It’s going to be an interesting fight in the market for these 2 MPVs
*Impressive*
Oh, i thought something reminded me of the 7-Series, it was the front bumper at luxury line. But nice work from BMW, really growing the distance to other manufaturers with quality. Nice!
As a Gran Tourer driver and this beeing the combined successor I see the trunk is missing a few hundred liters. Is the trunk lighting better now? Did they fix the sometimes failing camera based systems from Gen 1? Is a better parking assistant available with front cam? Android Auto is finally integrated after BMW ignoring half of the smartphone market forever. Is driving assistant able to hold the lane or still ignoring it? Gen 1 was starting to be disappointing when viewing at it from 2020 available tech perspective.
Looks a fabulous car. Think I’d go for that even over the X1 and X2.
Hey Thomas, Great review as Always. Does the 7 speed dual clutch as good as the 8 speed torque converter?
Thanks
unfortunately due to physics, no dual clutch is as reliable on the long run as a torque converter
Wonder if the gran tourer variant will come back too
Just had a loan of one of these today, drives a bit nicer than the old model, also I noticed on RHD the seat memory buttons are still on the seat, I am afraid the new dash without idrive just means to me stress, life is too short to learn how to work out auto park works compared to the old model with buttons.
Interesting at 2:30 thomas mentions plugin model sits already 7mm lower and cannot be lowered even with adaptive suspension add on..what does this mean..a more comfortable ride with adaptive m suspension on the plugin variant?
Is there any 7 seater option like the previous gen?
Thank you Thomas for these very good reviews.
You are the best car reviewer of the whole UA-cam.
3 years ago you have helped us choose our MPV, we landed on the 2020 B200d which was the best for us at the time.
Now coming towards the end of our lease we have to choose a new one.
As you show us, the 2 series active tourer has evolved a lot since 3 years ago, at the time the difference was really big with the 2020 B Class and it was an easy decision to go with the Mercedes, now the choice is becoming more difficult.
I am convinced about the 2 series active tourer except I have one big remaining fear: I will go for diesel, and I did a test drive of the B218d with its 7 gears last saturday and I felt it is a lot less dynamic drive compared to the B200d with its nice 8 gears gearbox.
If we stay with the B200d and don't go for the 218d it will be for difference in the driving experience. BMW should really put a gearbox similar to the one of B200d, or do a 223d version with more power.
If we don't stay with Mercedes it will probably be for pricing reasons. As i watched the Mercedes strategy presentation to investors the top management of Daimler clearly says that they want to defocus from Premium and focus on Luxury, so they no longer care about the compact segment and they want this to be reflected in their pricing. My local dealer already warned me to expect a +20% compared to the previous lease for same configuration, at BMW I have similar configuration with +12%. This can make the difference in favor of BMW despite the loss of driving fun with 218d, and that is because I am not a "Luxury" segment customer but a "Premium" segment customer as it is meant by Daimler's top management.
The other alternative that I have looked was the new DS4 BlueHDI Opera style, it would be absolutely perfect except the very weak engine power.
So maybe BMW218d is the most likely winner in our family, except if Mercedes is still able to care for the Premium segment customers, their pricing policy will tell. At equal price the B200d will win over the 218d because of the superior driving fun.
Great thoughts and I agree! Have u seen the driving review of the BMW? ua-cam.com/video/h6eg9uDA6XE/v-deo.html
Also see my remarks in the review as for the drivetrains
I just notice, there is no iDrive controller wheel at the center console anymore in this all-new 2-Series Active Tourer.. Whereas in the BMW iX SAV, i4 Gran Coupe, and 4-Series Gran Coupe which all use the same and latest Operating System 8, the iDrive controller wheel is still there... Why...?
Does the M Sport steering wheel have real buttons as well or are they capacitive?
We have a 2015 bmw 225i xdrive as our second car and it works pretty good for 4 people but the luggage space in trunk is pretty small but overall a nice car for littel bit under 17,000$ used
I am sad that BMW ditched their perfect infotainment for this dual display copy of Mercedes.
And they just stand there as if I would put wide a screen monitor there myself. They should at least protect the main screen against sun with dash extending over the screen.
Looks like all good things must come to an end one day :/
*The old adage, ‘don’t fix it if it ain’t broke’ springs to mind*
The interior looks high tech and plush! The overall look is steps ahead of the previous model. Thanks Thomas for another awesome video.
So expensive for reasonable spec, not for me thank you. Excellent review as always! 👏👍😀
People pay it mothly so the final price doesnt have the same impact. For example they pay 6.000€ and 300€/month during 48 months for a 40k car. The car will never be theirs but most people do it like that nowadays.
Yes! A nice new steering wheel!
Controls? Same comments as for the latest generation VW’s?
Damn, this looks surprisingly good. Arguably BMW’s third best looking car behind the 3 Series and 5 Series. And the only car so far from BMW along with the M3 that looks good with the big grille. The interior is arguably the best in a BMW car today, however it’s disappointing to see that it doesn’t have the iDrive rotary wheel (which I love in my 2011 BMW 323i), though the screen isn’t too far from the driver and is centred towards the driver which is good. Overall, a very good looking car and I’d think the best car in it’s class.
The hybrid specs and interior look absolutely fantastic
Wtf it looks so ugly 🤣
@@ogabchemseddine1654 uh no it Dosent
Good looking car.
I would like to know who is the front designer for the BMW one series and the second series honestly what's wrong with you ?
Will this still have the gran tourer variant?
Anhängerkupplung beim PHEV möglich oder ist das derselbe Mist wie beim Countryman?
Isn’t this the sister model of the Mini Clubman? I quite like the interior. Jury is still out on the exterior.
Thomas, I have just bought this car based on your review :) I would have never considered it prior to your review. I have Alpine white in M package, it looks very sporty.
Cool enjoy 😊
Also seen the driving review? ua-cam.com/video/h6eg9uDA6XE/v-deo.html
@@autogefuehl Sure I did 😉 You and your team are doing excellent job ! All the best!
Sad to see BMW has regressed with hard plastics at the back 😕. Did they also get rid of the iDrive controller ?
maybe gonna be my coming family car.
Je suis très contente 1.5 essence 136cv 218i pack M 2022 franchement consomme vraiment bien rouler allez 5,2 litres confortable qualité super bien 👍
Enjoy 😊
if bmw willing to make the ground clearance higher, this will well replace the tiny x2.
Were is the multimedia menu wheel ??!?!
Why would you by a 1, X1 och X2 when this is out? 😃
Looks nice in white. Needs an idrive Controller.
08:12 First take that sounded like Minawull wide? I guess Mineral is a tough one to pronounce for some German speakers? Joking aside never miss these reviews Thomas they are the very best.
Where does the Van bit come from, nothing like a van.
The Thomas Blue, is it Misano Blue or Phytonic Blue?
I think I did mention in the video, didnt I ?
Who needs a bulky SUV when there is this sport MPV? Perfect family car. Also the more affordable Renault scenic (and grand scenic) is a very good looking MPV. I prefer the white package.
wish this interior on series 1!
The only new BMW in recent years which improved upon its predecessors design...
Not a hard job 😂
Not really hard considering the previous bmw 2 series wasn't exactly a looker
Um have you seen the new 3 series and the new 5 series??
I don’t agree at all the face of this car is worse. This new car is better from the side angles and rear but the face is a fail. Interior is also an upgrade on this new gen, most BMW suck right now except 3,5,8 series, X3/5/6/7.
It looks like a kia soul...
It looks better than before, more hatchback like. Id even say better than a current 1 series. I think BMW will sell this car as an EV too in the future.
230e a very welcome surprise. How do they get 326 ps out of it? Different tune? Bigger turbo? More powerful electric engine?
PHEV
Yes, thank you, that's clear. I was wondering in what ratio are the 2 engines contributing to the overall power output.
Just checked BMW article: 1.5l petrol provides 150hp, and electric motor 177hp. Should prove to be very useable performance in ev mode. Looking forward to your full review and test drive!
On this car the big grill kind of works
The front look bold, but the profile reminds me of Honda CRX. Anyway, I prefer the white one without the hood emblem recess.
I really love BMW but for me it’s a no go that they eliminated the Idrive controller, climate controls and the 8 shortcut buttons. I love the usability of my current BMW and I hope that the other models will remain with the controller. Otherwise it’s a really good update to the predecessor.
I agree with you about the infotainment system. The iDrive rotary wheel is what I love about my 2011 323i and it makes it much easier to control and climate and shortcut buttons are good as well, however from the looks of things it seems BMW have integrated the touch climate controls the best out of any car manufacturer and the touch screen is very easy to use.
I really like these 'oversized hatchbacks'. They look big but not yet CUV big
So true on Tiesto remark 😆😆
When the minivan has a better design than a coupe.
Looks better than the 1 series imo. it'd be funny to see if the 230e could smoke some hot hatches with 326hp under the bonnet.
Finally an interior not like Mazda
great, hopefully it wins over the SUV buyers from x1 and x2
great car, I would go for the Luxury version
🔥🔥🔥
On the contrary to Benz the BMW is on the right track as far as the design specially interior design is concerned!
Very subjective, I really dislike the new BMW exterior styling while I love the new S-Class for example. This is the ugliest car I have seen in a while now but I’m glad others seem to like it and some maybe wanna buy it.
defintely the interior materials look far better than any Mercedes from the A to the E class. Mercedes has been cheaping out a lot and using big screens and chinese Led lights to make people think that their interiors are fancy.
@@PaulTC777 my mum has a 2020 GLC and that thing is built like a tank not gonna lie
well, the 2 series active tourer was never the prettiest bmw, considering that it's not too bad.
I like it for the not standard boring BMW interior definitely can compete with Mercedes Benz B Class
There is no shift pedal in the luxury package. I don't know how the driver can down-shift this with the electronic gear lever.
Still loving the old 2 series tour, this car deliver very good value!
Oh dear; after they’ve spent the last few years buggering up the styling of their range they’ve now removed the remaining reason to buy a BMW.
We r very happy to have 220i AC for 2 years. Very light car, just under 1400kg,feel surprisingly sharp. Light on petrol, don't understand why 220iAC has more power than 320i, significantly faster(7,3s vs 8,1s), yes some details looks cheaper than other models, but same 8 speed auto. We ll get new one 2023, big fan of small MPV, in all ways better, spacious than X2 for less$...
Current owner of the 218d gran tourer. The kidneys are overkill, the rest is good. It would be nice to have a 7 seater or at least stretched version for even more luggage capacity.
I still don't know how car manufacturers continue to stretch platforms to accommodate more leg room for back passengers, yet the most important thing on a FAMILY car is rear trunk.
2 small children and you need at least an estate/caravan size boot to accommodate buggys, scooter, wheels, hoverboard etc. If there's also a midsized dog, you can forget it, need to buy a proper van like V Class or T6.
That's why cars like Golf Sportsvan or Active Tourer are mostly driven by older people who appreciate more head space.
Nice job BMW. Hopefully there will be an option to combine the high performance engine with a soft, absolutely non-sports, suspension setup. I'd like to be such a car like a cocoon, completely isolating you from the (bad) roads and the outside world. Pure gliding softness - a cradle of relaxation. But then also enough engine power that is just there in case you need it. Sort of a family Bentley...
My current Active Tourer M Sport has a very firm ride but I think adaptive dampers are standard on this new one so hopefully it’ll be nice and compliant
I really hope the plug in variants of this new 2022 model have a soft suspension. The 230e M sport has the M adaptive suspension so tempted to go for the Luxury 230e as i am hoping it will be a more comfortable ride than the M sport with its sport suspension setup? No demo models available yet for plugin as production only starts in August.
Looks surprisingly good 😅
