Smithy should've played a bigger role. He's like the final boss that comes out of no where, since all you knew about him was his name. If he actually came and started antagonizing the group at some point of the story, or had some mysterious connection to the group, he would be phenomenally more awesome.

@P1zzaSH4RK The thing about smithy though, you never encountered him, but you'd know that he was an awesome villain. He was sending his minions to attack you, to betray you, to make every turn dangerous, then when you fight the thing that symbolizes him, being the sword, you are taken to the edge of oblivion to see where his madness is born and manifests itself to life. What you find is an old man hammering away creating life, alone, and driven by madness and hatred.

I disagree. What made SNES era bosses like Lavos and Gigyas great WAS the fact you knew so little about them, other than first and second hand accounts that glorified them to the point of god status.

@PowerOfKaishin Perhaps, but...then he wouldn't have been able to sit around in his forge and make weapons the whole game, either, and...since that is the point of Smithy, I think that if he were running around screwing with the party the whole time, it would make him seem more like Fawfull, or something, and not Smithy, if that makes sense...Also, to be honest, he always struck me as being kind of lazy for some reason, that's why he sent all his minions after Mario, instead of going himself ;)

@LanceOmikron Good point. I don't feel the "mysterious overlord" type has to be personally absent from the entire work, though. You could, say, point to Final Fantasy 3's Kefka in a way - you only see him periodically, and when you first encounter him you aren't even aware he's the actual big bad.

Geno Whirl's instant kill(Well 9999, but nothing has that much hp in this game) works on Exor. No other boss though unless glitch/hacking. Unless, like crazygamer said, there is an nigh impossible chance of getting it on any boss.

Haha, I remember this guy.
My first time through the game, I didn't know what the little bonuses were upon levelup. So I ended the game with very weak characters with a whole lot of health.
I was never able to beat Smithy with Geno on my team. Any other combination, I was fine, but never with Geno.
