I have got exercise-induced asthma, i never knew you had asthma, now that i've seen how much you're biking this is giving me motivation to don't just leave biking becvause of these asthma Thanks
Also have exercise-induced asthma. My doctor recommended exercise like cycling or running a couple times per week and it really helps. Also, he recommended I should not use the inhaler regularly but only when I felt that I needed it. If I try to deliver peak performance, my lung still doesn't perform perfectly, but in lower efforts, I don't have any symptoms anymore. Also, my lung capacity is now almost the same as a healthy person's.
Same exercise induced asthma. Didn't really come on until I was well into my thirties. I found that after racing I just could not get my breath back and my airway would constrict. So I got an inhaler. Puff before and after a big ride / race (I'm an amateur not going for podiums, chill) and I can ride my ride. Sadly the last couple big races (Chequamegon / Lutsen) I've ended up in the medical tent, I'm just not recovering as fast as I use to, but I'm also going to be 50 next year... Trade offs.
I found that the more active I stay, including some serious butt kicking workouts, the less my asthma is an issue. When things slow down in the winter or when recovering from an injury is when my asthma acts up more.
@@lesand5484 My MD says the opposite - to take a therapeutic dose every morning (Salbutamol to open the airways, then the therapeutic dose of Ciclesonide to keep them from getting inflamed throughout the day)
Porter and Seth riding bikes in the wild is why I started watching this channel. Great Video. It's amazing what effects diet can have on the body. I'm sure that's a great feeling. Congratz!
When my grandmother was in her 70s. She quite smoking after nearly 40 years, started eating better, sleeping more. Now shes in her 80s and she no longer has type 2 diabetes and is the healthy she has ever been in my lifetime. Your never too sick, too hurt, or too old to get better. Killer vid man.

Mine gets really bad in higher altitudes for sure. It took me forever to adjust to moving to a higher altitude it really took almost a year to feel comfortable. Thanks for talking about it, it helps to know I am not the only one who deals with asthma.

Try reducing all carbs-sugars and inflammatory/salavtory foods like chocolate, dairy and wheat for a week or two and see if it does anything. After trying something different like this day 1 my airways were much clearer especially after I sleep. and I finally feel like I can go outside again ;-; PS. it's not cheating... If it lets you have fun nothing else matters.
I am 46 and have been dealing with asthma for awhile, diagnosed when I was around 28. It stopped me from being able to mountain bike. I found the more weight I lose the less issues I have. Also, staying up on making sure I have regular cardio exercise helps a lot. When I ride I no longer need my inhaler on me so long as I consciously control my breathing - long slow breaths. Best of luck to you.
I've had athletic induced asthma since I was a kid and I've been on a weight loss journey this year too, this reminded me I haven't had an asthma attack in almost a year as well. I feel your struggle and understand how much it means to not be a slave to the inhaler anymore. Congrats!

Dr said I had asthma in first grade. Took an allergy test in my 30's and found 14 foods I ate were causing allergic reactions (and had chronic candida, which is from too much sugar). Carb loading spaghetti made biking much worse (wheat allergy) and I was usually the slowest. Biking is so much easier now that I dont eat those foods
If anyone is wondering, it's "Teocalli Ridge Loop Trail". Seth, where did the death canal thing come from? Colorado is like that. I try to ride a couple times a week, just pick something off of the trail app and go. Always something new and amazing. Places like this are where E's can really shine. If you are in a constant state of exploration in places that can be vast and very difficult, you dont always know if turning down any one trail means you are spending the night out there.
Death Canal.... I'm assuming is from Death Pass (the short, poorly-named connector trail from the bottom of Teo) and then Canal is after that, back down to Brush Creek Road.
Not to rain on your parade, but I've also had asthma my entire life and I'm 37 now. It was very mild as a kid/teenage and then flared up in my early twenties. It was very mild again in my late twenties and early thirties and a couple of years ago flared up again. I had to use my inhaler 4 times just last night. My point is that it could come back again in the future, possibly with a vengeance. Our bodies change and go through cycles over the years. I HOPE that it doesn't come back, for your sake, but just keep it in mind.
Was your general health, fitness, activity and diet very consistent through those times? I can see it being pure coincidence that it let off for him just as he started eating better. My friends with asthmas seem to have acuteness vary a lot over the years but one definitely got "better" as they also got fitter and ate better. But I discovered that the more I rode my bike and the more climbing I did, the asthma attacks got less and less, and I haven't had to use my inhaler in probably a year or so. I'm super glad you're doing well Seth and going on these awesome bike rides in these awesome locations!
Hey Seth! As another life-long asthmatic, thank you for sharing your story! Most of the time the only things you hear about asthma is from big pharma about another drug to take. Like you I've found that mountain biking has been a ticket to freedom from my asthma. Awesome video! Thanks for the positive message.
Great Seth! You have beaten you're asthma for good! One big leap to your health and i am feeling happy for you. Keep it up. I think you can officially say goodbye to the inhaler.

So Epic Seth! Thanks for sharing. My first destination MTB adventure is Bentonville which is inspired by the video you posted about your trip there a couple years back. Cant wait.
Been to Crested Bute once before around 10 years ago. We went during the wild flower season (end of July). It was the most beautiful scenery I've ever seen. We hiked all over. Would love to do the bike trails next time. The family is talking about going back next summer. Thanks for the great video!
For me (an old guy), riding on the west coast with our thick, sea level air makes it hard to ride at elevation. I get sick right away on extended climbs. Sucks! I would love to ride CO.

Quick tip from living up there in the altitude in Colorado drink water and electrolytes to prevent or calm down the sickness
Good to see you on a ride !
Congratulations on no flare ups of your asthma ! That's life changing and it must feel so good!!
I've had asthma since I was a baby. I used to have to use my inhaler on every bike ride I went on.
So nice to see actual biking content after the long draught.
Great Seth! You have beaten you're asthma for good! One big leap to your health and i am feeling happy for you. Keep it up. I think you can officially say goodbye to the inhaler.
Awesome trails there, CO has some of the best single track in the World!
So glad your asthma is getting better! Best wishes for the future!
And boy oh boy, I didn't expect such a forest at that altitude. In my place (western Alps) you are lucky to get some lichens!
Keep up the good work it will only get better 💪🏼
So Epic Seth! Thanks for sharing. My first destination MTB adventure is Bentonville which is inspired by the video you posted about your trip there a couple years back. Cant wait.
Yes, thank you for mountain biking on your mountain biking channel…more of this please.
Seth man, that’s fantastic.
Wish we had your mountains here in the UK 🇬🇧 well done Seth!
Actual mountain biking on a mountain bike channel, moar please!!
Damnnnn seth took it like a champ, and damn the views are amazing there I would love to go
Fun seeing you on a real mtb ride! What a ride!
Been to Crested Bute once before around 10 years ago. We went during the wild flower season (end of July). It was the most beautiful scenery I've ever seen. We hiked all over. Would love to do the bike trails next time. The family is talking about going back next summer. Thanks for the great video!
Teocalli Ridge is one of my favorite trails. So neat to see you ride an area I go to so much. Crested Butte is the best!
Awesome job Seth glad you can breathe properly now.
It's always a special day riding in the Gunnison Valley! It never gets old!
One of Seth’s best videos! Makes me want to get out and ride. Cheers.
What cured my asthma was getting a EBike… Living out in Colorado it’s been a game changer.
You haven’t really mountain biked in Colorado until you’ve had to outrun an afternoon thunderstorm.
If Seth has ever uttered a phrase that describes my mountain biking experience, it was:
"I skidded out and hit my balls."
Nice work man! Good work on getting healthy and taking control of your health!
Congratulations Seth!
Man that looked friggin' amazing... Bit of a pucker factor on the downhill though. I'm so jealous of the nature in the United States.
For me (an old guy), riding on the west coast with our thick, sea level air makes it hard to ride at elevation. I get sick right away on extended climbs. Sucks! I would love to ride CO.
