I modified the copicat a few years ago for a vid, the link to that vid is in the description! time to crack it out as i have a few more projects with it coming up woop woop. my friend johnny has got into tape recently, and i had gone off it a tad but suddenly like a flick of a switch i got obsessed a couple of days ago. haha it happens! you are never in control of what your tunnel vision focusses on!!! needless to say i think the visit from hainbach the other week contributed!!!! if only i could find a nagra for not silly money haha. PEACE.
I'll never stop loving magnetic tape.
A soundscsape that neighbours those of Delia Darbyshire.
@@BlAcKpHrAcKwho?😅
Find your groove and grind it your way, man.
I mean this in the best way possible: The 1960s called, and they want their sci-fi back! That rocked. 👍
Very rad. Total forbidden planet vibes.
I just watched Forbidden Planet again while I was ill over Christmas and this just took me straight back to it
More of this, Sam. Full length ambient loop record has to be made.
I'd love it
В серебряной ванне я бороздил космос, двигаясь в пустоте к источнику синтеза света
Be careful, you're turning into Hainbach :D
But then again i was doing Hainbach probably before he was born, about 50 years ago
2 reel to reels, one recording, one playback, with the tape gong through both sets of heads and using feedback
I still have the tapes.
I get the feeling Hainbach's first tape, was an LED representation of two tape reels, on an OP1. 😉
Put that stuff up! I like hearing new things.
Yes please upload.
@@Rhythmicons The tapes i have are not best quality, most of the start is fairly boring, but culminated in what sounded like church bells, i began the recording with the word 'mad' which was re recorded and distorted.
I would do a full demonstration, but i don't have 2 similar tape recorders, though i still have 2 machines (one is akai stereo, other is old mono)
I'm sure folks would appreciate it. I know I certainly would. And even if it is low quality and or boring, I bet you could still mangle it into something with some creative editing and effects. @@sparkyprojects
first noise reminded me of the classic Sci fi movie Forbidden Planet (1956)
around 8:06 is when you nailed it for me
Dude, that was awesome! I think I went to the Soviet side of the Upside Down there for a while!
Amazing
I just love this kind of sounds! (that's why am a subscriber)
look out look mum, the krell are coming to get you 👀
Sounds great Sam, something a little different from the Synth pop punk you usually do. I do this tape loop style regularly with my very DIY modular synth and a Ditto x4 Looper. It has the looping fade function. (Older loops fade away). Similar vibes with low light and simple analogue synth sounds over lapping looping giving something that sounds complex. Awesome 👍
Inspired me to have a little jam now. Thanks 👍
Now. I dare you to add a Theremin ! Electronic one like the Beach Boys used in "Good Vibrations".
Hehe - My dog is sleeping next to my computer-table and I think I just gave him some pretty strange dreams, listening to this while he was sleeping... 😅
Suddenly I want to dig up my DVD of Forbidden Planet, for some reason!
you sir, have filled the Klaus Schulze shaped hole in my soul. and then some. i could, (and have) listen(ed) to your fiddlidly twistidly knobbledy inventions for hours. thank you!
Love all your work man, big fan
Wonderfully eerie! Happy New Year Sam.🎉
Sounds like the soundtrack for the original Metroid
I would love to come and visit the museum. Just one little problem, I live half way around the world.
This feels like hypnogogia to me. Sick!
yup totally the great machine from the forbidden planet............ :D
Happy 2024 to you Sam!
This markedly improved my mood this morning. Thanks
so fun to see you play around live :)
OMG! The synths escaped the museum! Quick, someone notify (Obsolete) before they inflict ABBA on innocent children!
Great sound experimentation.
Really nice SAM. Very musical
Daaaamn the first 4 minutes sounds like 80s sci fi movie sound effects of the "computers" and other systems in the spaceships
happy new year!
My kids asked me what movie im watching 😜 up until 2:28 then they said they're going nuts
I swear you were brought up on too much Jean Michel Jarre and Vangelis. This is a good thing might I add. 😂
A wonderful bit of ambient with character.
Hi Sam..
Wow that certainly brings back memories. I used to be a CB Breaker way back in the seventies when CB Radio was illegal in UK. I copied a CB Breaker in portsmouth who was more of a wally than me, and he had connected one of these to his mike input.. It was so great that I bought one. It was great but of course couldnt take it mobile. It was only on my Homebase Rig.
Eventually in 1981, CB was legalised on a certain block of channels on FM only. The quality was no good, so this didnt sound as good, so done away with it. The audible frequency spectrum was poor (narrow bandwidth) , and nothing like the quality we had with AM, believe it or not.
I eventually sold it underprices in nineties to a guitarist.. wish i hadnt
Delia Derbyshire called.... she's still chasing those royalty payments!
I'm getting forbidden planet vibes all over 🙂🛸👽👾🎬🎥📽📺🤖
nice 2x👍 Have a fantastic 2024
i really dig this track!
I fucking love this Sam!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Pretty haunting, but totally awesome!
I love this stuff!
real spacy sound. great!
Frippertronics revisited ❤
Robert is calling his lawyers
@@Travistronics Or doing the Sunday Lunchtime thing with Bob and Toyah
Nice one, reminds me of Frippertronics!
That's really good use of the Microcosm!
haha as a weight to hold the tape loop rod in place? i did use it in the audio but it was too much for this sadly
@@LOOKMUMNOCOMPUTER exactly! I thought it was hilarious!
That is awesome!
I have no idea whats going on here... But it sounds great!
I really need to build another Head Wand.
What's a Head Wand, you may ask?
A Head Wand is a record, play, and erase head, all on the end of a stick, on which many tightly alligned rows of analog tape laminated row by row, onto a flat board using packing tape, can be recorded, played back, or erased, at will, in any direction, from tape beginning to end, from end to beginning, or even across the rows, top to bottom. Motion can be any speed, or direction you like, even across multiple rows of tape. No need to follow the direction of the magnetic tape, at all.
Record, and play back sounds, like you've never heard in your life, at the flick of a wand.
Yeah it's cool! You can also put tape heads on the bottom of remote control cars!!!
That's a great idea! @@LOOKMUMNOCOMPUTER
You better make a video on the RC car magnetic recording machine! And I better make one on my Head Wand. 😁@@LOOKMUMNOCOMPUTER
why do i get forbidden planet vibes :)
Very 'Forbidden Planet'
My cat is listening to this tongue stuck out & bug eyed😗...
Lovely ❤
Wahey! That bela labs touch pad module is awesome isn't it! I had been playing with it over crimbo too.
That gave me doom ps1 vibes to begin with.
living the dream m8
The next resident evil sound track 👍
Thanks
Thanks!
plz more of that
Sounds from forbidden planet 😊
Cool.
neat! did pierre henry use one of these?
This would make for an excellent soundtrack for some kind of Dystopian Horror Science Fiction Movie involving Robots taking over Humanity and We Humans are but Ants to be crushed beneath the feet of Our Robot Overlords. I would name such a Movie " Machina Invictus " .
Forbidden Planet
Damn man!
Reminds me of Forbidden Planet
Very fun. I was playing with an Echorec VST. Nice to have something real though.
To be honest echorec probably does a better job!!! :D does it have a sound on sound mode then? I wasn't aware! That's cool
@@LOOKMUMNOCOMPUTER I don't think it has a sound on sound mode. Looks like the recording head only overwrites
maybe combine a theramin into the far left upright spool holder for a bit extra whoosh and wibble........
This played at .75 speed is chillllllllll
I wonder if you could store the tape loop the same way as on those vintage telephone exchange message boxes, just loose behind a clear panel
Next step is using a keyboard to play them - DIY Mellotron
Build me a song worthy of Mordor!
Might be interesting to see what you could DIY into something of a similar approach with a bunch of dodgy cheap cassette player parts. Likely more lo-fi than this. The main principle being something drives tape on a loop and you can record over over it with multiple play heads to tap into.
Wow...
Siiick
Soo cool !!!!
Can we have a poll to elect which airport this music should be for?
It’s sound like from the future
play this on another tab in the back LOW. ua-cam.com/video/Ajf-IG7nyYg/v-deo.html
Speaking of silly money, nice synth and Watkins. Though I'm sure you didn't pay the going rates, it's still pretty posh stuff you have going these days.
Well done.
yeah definitely!!! im still nearly always buying broken or untested :D
6:10 sounds like the book of eli...........
Happy New year, you artist.
Cool device and sound, but you should definitely check a "Akai MPC One" from the second hand market with CV to midi.
There devices have 192kHz / 24 Bit sound and they sound very awesome, pretty much like analog, hence is a Moog plugin, even to record your set on the fly.
tape delay, various guitar (cabinet) amplifier emulation plugin as well 12 bit emulation from Akai MPC60 / Linndrum.
It’s more entertaining for me at x2
Cotk 15 vs Moog 15...verdict?
Not played a moog one. So wouldn't know sadly. From what I know of the system 55 I played. I'd say pretty similar
You got a whale in there?
Whalectronic sounds.
