I'd love to see a full documentary from beginning to end of this actually happening in front of our eyes. Obviously some areas speed up to reduce the time of the video. A 30 minutes to 1 hour long documentary would be awesome.

So nice to get quality educational content. You should ask if the use of petroleum waste product (Pitch & Coke) as binders in battery production is simply a matter of cost / convenience, and therefore can be replaced with more sustainably produced binding agents or if they are essential ingredients that can only come from petroleum production as a practical matter.

I'm sure they can be obtained from wood and the charred remains of climate deniers.

Our company specializes in producingAdvanced spherical graphite shaping line.
Raw material price: 769usd per ton. Maybe lower in Africa.
      1. Finished product price:
      (1) low grade 3076-4615usd per ton
      (2) middle grade 4615-7692usd per ton
      (3) high grade 7692-1079usd per ton
We can produce sample according to customers’ request. Customers should take sample of finished product and raw material to us. We produce it before making an order.
      2. Capacity: 1 ton per day per set. 60kg/hour. Japanese supplier only 20kg/ hour
      3. Electricity saving: Compared with traditional equipment, it can save about 2000kwh per day.
      4. Yield rate: more than 90% traditional equipment 50%
      5. High purity: The equipment takes dry purified air as medium, and there is no other medium (mechanical wear) in the production process, which avoids secondary pollution and ensures the high purity of raw materials.
      6. High degree of automation: the equipment is PLC automatic control, from feeding to finished product packaging can achieve automatic control, greatly reducing the labor cost.
      7. Application fields: lithium battery materials, metallurgical powder, nonmetallic mineral materials, electronic ceramic materials, various abrasives, diamond and other super hard materials.

      Introduction:
Powder is an aggregate composed of many small particles. Due to the excellent bulk density and chemical stability of spherical powders, the market demand rate for spherical powders is increasing. For example the battery anode with price even 3,000-10,000usd per ton, there is a big market with the development of green car. The spherical powder is generally obtained by powder reshaping, reshaping process will generally use series of mechanical shaping equipment, due to the rotation speed between the shaping equipment is different, the powder through the process of each adjacent equipment is polished into a round. But the rate of traditional equipment is very low, and the electricity consumption is very large, the overall work efficiency is very low, and caused a lot of waste of materials.
Our company independently develops a new type of spherical powder equipment. This shaping equipment uses pneumatic force to grind irregular particles into spherical or near spherical shape, so as to improve the fluidity of particles, increase the loose density, compaction density and specific surface area, and greatly reduce the power consumption of the equipment.

Just a clarification, you don't NEED petroleum products, they are used because they are almost thrown at you cheap and tested, where as alternatives would have to be tested. At no time will we HAVE to pump up oil to make batteries, nor will the move away from petroleum products make the battery much more expensive, just for now inconvenient.

I'd like to see how a company can make batteries without using petroleum products to make the batteries. And also a comparison of cost between the two different processes.

@@Mr_Battlefield Basically the petroleum products being used today can be synthesized from other base products, just like you can run an engine on alcohols not gasoline or diesel.
Cost comparisons are a different story since the petroleum products used today are essentially waste products when refining oil to make gasoline (and other high volume products).

I was under the impression that LiFePO4 appears to have emerged as the winning combination currently. Cobalt certainly and Nickel as well seem to have been priced out of the mix.

The amazing part about EV the weakness range becomes with time,
The strength against ICE vehicles (which are limited by the size of tank!)

If we didn't drill oil we wouldn't have EV's or any of our tech products. Thankfully the USA is Energy independent and we are now exporting. We have more oil than the middle East. It will always take fossil fuels to make electric cars until we master Fusion. We will get there with American Made quantum computers to solve the Fusion reactors problem. Until then DRILL BABY DRILL.

So, how much does it pollute? Can we recycle them correctly?

      J. B. Straubel has left Tesla to setup a recycling factory. If anyone can he can, and the current crop of batteries will be in use in cars the storage for 30+ years so he has some time to work on it.

Can all be recycled. In Europe Umicore says they can do 96 % , but at the moment they don't even do recycle lithium because it isn't economical. 20000 tons is the minimum amount they need per anno they claim. They amount for recycling isn't available in sufficient amounts for a thermal procedure. There is allready a chemical procedure available which works too. Apart from lithium other metals are allready being recycled. There real issue is that all the small batteries never see a recycling process , not because someone doesn't want to , but they just end up thrown away by consumers.

That's right SEAN if we didn't drill for OIL you wouldn't have an electric car it's a great thing the United States is Energy independent we have enough oil to self sustain thanks to TRUMP if we had Hillary we would still rely on others
