Thanks for the video. I have a 910 sq ft garage I applied it to. I was about a quart short when applying the second coat based on the application instructions. Just letting people know for reference. I then purchased more and did a 3rd coat. Every coat makes it glossier and glossier hiding roller marks. It is perfectly clear so it doesn't hide anything underneath. The third coat made it look fantastic.
Thank you so much for this.
How long do you need to wait between each coat?
"if you watch my video on how to fix an oil leak, obviously that didn't work" made me laugh! Thanks for your videos! I will be sealing my new shop floor with this product in a few weeks. I'm sold!
This is really a great product. :)
Nice demo. I gotta say, the collection looks pretty damn nice!!
Thank you so much.
i'm in SC as well. Waiting to do a 38x30 and will coat it with that. Might do the 24x41 but it has a nice slickish sheen on it already.
Thank you so much for this review, John! I'm building a 24x36 shop and did not want to spend thousands on epoxy or other coatings. This looks perfect for my needs!
Thank you so much. For the price you can’t beat it. :)
I just put up a 24x40 building and I also have a Humvee lol. Great minds think alike John!!! Thanks for the video.
Lol. You can’t go wrong with one. So much fun. Thank you for watching.
John, Thank you for taking the time to share your helpful advice and keeping us posted with updates. I live in stateline area (Northern Illinois/Southern Wisconsin) and we of course have our share of snow and road salt. Have you heard from anyone who has used the Eagle Gloss Sealer that has heavy road salt accumulation? thanks again for videos, SM
Thank you so much for the comment. Unfortunately, I have not. I would be interested to know, as I would expect it to hold up well against salt and water. However, it does get slippery when wet, so an aggregate would be needed.
Like the idea. Looks great. Love your car collection.
Chad Brisk thank you so much.
Thanks for doing this. I’ve been wanting to spruce up my garage floor as well but the epoxy just seemed like it was too much work and money for no return. I will be going with this option.
I think you will be very happy.
Very good, informative video that gives folks an alternative to the twenty-step polished concrete look! The easier and cheaper route that I was looking for, to make my garage floor look better. I will have to do some more cleaning and etching, though. I believe this product will do the trick for what I want. Thank you for youtubing this. I also live in S.C. and like SVT's. I used to have a 1995 Cobra R and a 2004 Lightning and a 1968 Shelby Mustang GT500 Convertible clone. All at the same time. Don't now, though. Oh, well, at least I will have a nice garage floor!
Thank you for watching. It’s still the best thing I have done to my garages. Works great and for the price it’s a no brainer. I’m in the Aiken SC area. Let me know if you are ever in the area.
This is great! I've been looking for a simple solution to coat my garage floor and then add floating tiles on top. I'm in SC as well, so its nice to see results in a similar environment. Nice car collection BTW
Thank you so much.
Very helpful video. Thanks for posting.
Thank you so much.
Thank you for the video. You have a lot of cool cars by the way.
Thank you so much. :)
Great video, thank you for making. I’m researching floor coatings for my new shop and think this is the way to go. Looking for something like the floors at a Home Depot. My previous shop, did an epoxy floor and I wouldn’t do it again. Very expensive, showed every blemish, tires marks stained and would not clean up. And fuels, if left too long, would stain as well.
Thank you so much.
HV Speed
Sounds like you had a water based epoxy which is nonsensical.. you have to use a 2 part solvent base epoxy. You can do a clear epoxy or bare concrete, just acid wash it.. if this is an auto shop you *not* want this sealer. Fuel, solvents, brake parts cleaner with burn thru .
HV Speed
Also, I don’t think HD has any coating on their floors. They do a high polish I believe
@@Helmuesi911 A two part epoxy with a CRU Chemical Resistant Urethane would work well against chemical attach. Check the Neogard web site.
Thanks for sharing. I bought product , going to apply soon.
You will love it.
Bro!!!! you just gave the best, most informative, easy-to-understand video on sealing a concrete floor EVER!! I've watched your original video as well. QUESTION.... I'm considering doing this in my basement. i have a music studio and Photo studio area, along with a small video editing suite. Being that the only heavy duty traffic with be creative people walking on it, and not cars... i should be okay with 1 or 2 coats, right?
1 coat would be perfect but a second will make it more durable and shine longer. Thank you for the awesome comment. It means the world to me. Thank you .
Love that you read and comment! We have a campground (purchased to create job programs for dev disabled adults) and we need an inexpensive solution to making our bunkhouse floors nicer in a budget. There are two that are 120 x 30, and even staining is exorbitant. Do you know if we can tint this to look more like a stain and then put a non slip coat on top?
Thank you so much. You can have this tinted and add an aggregate to it so you will limit slipping. This should turn out to be a great project.
Thanks for the review. I applied to our shop and garage. Looks great! I posted a short on my page.
Looks amazing.
Channeling that inner Billy Mays! RIP.
LOL :)
Great review!
Thank you so much.
Which eagle product do you recommend if I don’t want a gloss finish? Go with the satin?
so i live out in the sticks in central michigan so my vehicles are all the time bringing in dirt and misc debris into my garage, which of course ends up on the floor. currently it hardens/sticks to the floor and is a big pain to clean up. for those of you in a similar situation, did u find sealing your garage floor, as he's done w/ his, made it much easier to keep clean?
Impressive
Does this make the floor slippery?
Question, did you have to grind or etch the slab before you applied this. Looks like you put it directly on the finished slab. I’m looking for something that will allow me to push a mop broom around my new wood shop.
Thank you. This was applied directly on top of a new slab. It makes it easy to sweep, mop or vacuum the floors.
John, did you have any issues with the VOC smell getting up into the living space of your home when you applied in the garage and/or basement?
Yes, I could smell it heavy for a day and then it just got better each day.
Thanks for the great video. I've been wanting to seal the concrete in my dogs room, but I'm not sure if once they eagle clear coat dries, does it still emit a oder afterwards?
Once it’s dry, about 3 days, no odor at all.
I used Ecoetch on my basement floor, followed by 2 coats of Behr bonding primer and finally 2 coats of Behr gray catalyzed epoxy paint. It looks great after 4 years but I seriously doubt it would hold up to hot tires. I am thinking about some sort of garage flooring tiles
So far I have not had any issues with tires at all. I think that is because this is a sealant. It is absorbed into the concrete.
Thank you!
Best bang for the money. :) thank you.
Hey John! Quick question....Is it okay to use the Eagle High Gloss indoors like a basement with not much ventilation? Is their a strong smell when you're applying it? Although, I personally don't care that much about the smell when applying the sealer, because i will be doing it. I'm more concerned with afterwards.... will the floors give off a chemical/toxic-like smell? Or possibly toxic fumes that are not detectable?
respiratory
Bee Gee I have done this indoors before and it will leave a strong smell for about 3 days. An open window or door with a fan is helpful. If it’s a room you stay in then you wouldn’t be able to do so until the smell is gone.
@@JohnEngel Got'cha! thanks a million bro!
I had a little hydraulic fluid from my lift leak on the the floor a while back. It's not wet or anything and even using a solvent nothing comes up but you can see it. Will this seal over that? What is your experience with oil that was previously on the floor? What did you do?
Also, some awesome cars there!
Thank you so much. If it is now dry it will the sealant will cover it but then you will have a permanent spot on the ground. When it covers a stain the stain will show through.
Good content. Thanks! Does this have to be applied during warm weather? It is a perfect winter project when everything is cold outside.
Thank you for the comment. It does not need to be done in hot weather but will take more time to cure.
How do you think this would hold up to rolling a jack or toolbox over it? Were you able to fix the stain created by the diesel fuel leak? Thanks again for the detailed video. I used racedeck flooring in my previous garage, it was great but way too pricey.
Toolboxes are fine to roll on them, Jack’s do create some scratches. I haven’t tried to fix the stains yet but soon I will give it a go. For the scratch’s just reapply and it looks New again.
Hi John, can we get a 6 year UPDATE on your concrete floors and how the Eagle sealer is holding up? Is it time to recoat after 6 years. Watched your first video and the update a few years ago and am wondering if the product is still holding up. Thanks so much. Great videos.
Thank you so much. This is a great idea for a future video. I can do a review and then show what a new coat would look like. Great idea.
Is there any way to add color (Maybe food coloring?) to the Eagle product? Also does this work on outdoor concrete patio. Heavy Sun situation. Does the product need a job slip additive? Thx for your great info. Ben
Great questions. I have not used it for outdoor but I am sure you can. Yes color and grit can be added. I would suggest something for traction.
Hi John, is the floor slippery when it’s wet at all? We use the garage as the main entrance and I can’t have a virtual slip and slide every time it rains. Thanks!
Great question. This product will definitely make it very slippery when wet. However, you can add an aggregate to the product which will help with this issue.
Thanks for this video. Like others I did not want to spend thousands coating the floor. I have a new garage and concrete floor. Do you think it needs to be etched before applying the Eagle sealer?
That is a great question. I did this directly to my new floor without etching and have had no issues.
Hey!! I'm trying to find a way to do this for my yoga studio, but, I do want there to be a bit of grip so people don't slip. Do you know if they can add something at home depot when I get it? Thanks!
They sure do. You can ask them to add an aggregate to the mix, this will help prevent slipping.
Can't you use a hand grinder on the stain and then re-apply the sealer or would it not match? PS: My dad lives in Aiken and I went to lived there for a few years.
That’s a great question. I haven’t tried that yet but I am also curious about how it would work. :)
We lifted carpet out of the finished basement and want to seal the concrete. But wonder if we can put flooring over the sealed floors. Thinking plank flooring
I don’t see why you couldn’t.
Can this be directly applied over peeling paint? I am pretty stuck. I don't want to etch my painted concrete, but the peeling is bad.
I would not apply this over peeling paint. :(
Hi so this makes the concrete darken and look wet ? I’m thinking iv old sun weathered bricks that look great only while they are wet ...
That is correct. It has the look of being always wet. It does make them more slippery when wet, so keep that in mind..
John i like it, but did you have to etch it or not? Just clean and brush it on??
My slab was new so I did not etch. If it was older or had any stains I would have etched.
Maybe you mentioned it and I missed it but, does this hold up well for hot tires? I'm in California, Inland Empire, and it is quite a bit hotter/dryer than South Carolina. :)
Yes it does. I have never had an issue with tires at all. :)
I have a really important question if someone were to be so kind to answer me. I am looking to Epoxy coat my garage with the rustoleum kit and I have used it before before getting my garage concrete redone. The product was good but the only pitfall of the product was that there wasn’t really a glossy shine to it and it didn’t seem like there was a layer over the base epoxy paint. I later found out that in order to get this effect you have to buy a separate clear coat over the Epoxy. Looking online I see that for a single gallon of that clearcoat from the same brand rustoleum it’s about $100. It’s likely that I’m going to need two of these cans of clear coat so that means $200. My question is, is it possible to use the rust oleum epoxy kit and then instead of using the clearcoat from rustoleum use this instead as the clearcoat over the epoxy. Thank you
I don't think so. This product works by being absorbed into the concrete. I would be concerned that it would peel up on you.
Great video, and awesome car collection. So, just double checking, you said we can add color to this product?
You can. They can do it at the store.
Nice cars
Yaroslav Mudryi thank you. :)
Thank you for both your videos on this product. We're in the process of building a garage/studio. My question is in regard to my studio section. It will be used for crafting, painting, and as a design space. What is your opinion as to craft supplies, such as glue, paint, etc. and their effects on the coating. I'm thinking 2 coats would be best for sealing it. Any additional thoughts for me?
I think it would work well. I would recommend at least two coats and make sure to clean up any spills on it before they dry.
@@JohnEngel Thank you.
Thank you for the video. How long can oil stay on the floor before it discolors the coating? Can oil stay on the floor over winter (e.g. 5 months) without discoloring?
Anything over a couple of weeks will start to penetrate. Under my vehicles I have metal trays that just collect the oil or any leaking fluids.
How do you think this would work on top of concrete floors in leui of polishing them in a residential application?
I think it would work great. You do need to be careful because it will makes the floors slippery when wet.
Can you add sand/anti slip material to it or will that ruin the integrity and cause peeling?
I did not add and aggregate but I am told that you can. I think something like sand would make it much less slippery when wet.
I have a colored stamped concrete outside patio, how well would this hold up ?
Witz it will hold up very well. It’s outdoor or indoor.
Love it ….I am doing it….I am not fancy.
You will love it.
Searched UA-cam for garage floor tiles came across this guy... dude has a saleen cobra... glc benz... xtype jag... bentley continental GT...then we go to the basement... rarri.... Viper... wtf... whos is this guy ? Well he sold me ill be putting this in my garage lol. If its good enough for those rides my Alpina will do just fine lmao
You will love it. Great product and great price.
Is this Eagle Sealer oil based or water based? Thank you for doing this, i was going crazy in between EpoxyShield or polycuramine RockSolid and it's just not worth it. You made my life easy to finish my garage
Thank you so much. It is an acrylic based sealant.
Hi John
Do you think this would be okay as a base for epoxy?
Epoxy should be put on a bare floor. I would stick to one or the other. :)
i got a new house, but the garage has some blemishes and rust stain already. not sure if i should get it diamond grind for $700 and then seal it with the Eagle Gloss.. or save the money and just seal it.. what do you think?
When you coat it, it’s done. If you feel that you want it to look perfect then go ahead and do the grind. If you don’t mind the look then you can coat over it.
I just painted my garage floor, can I add this on top to make it look glossy and protect it?
Asking because all the videos I have found they put it on top of concrete not painted concrete.
This product is designed to go onto bare concrete. It needs to be absorbed to create a permanent adhesion.
Is this epoxy avail. in a brown color, that will give it a darker look rather then the original gloss look on plain concrete?
Antonio Davis it can be tinted at the store. You can get almost any result or color. :)
I'm going to put pearl powder for automotive paint in some and do my shop
Is love to see the result. I bet it will be amazing.
I would love to use this on my new driveway to stop any stains from peoples cars but it would turn it into a slippery skating rink, I wonder if sand can be mixed in to get grip ?
Great question. Yes you can add sand or silicate to the sealant and it would help with traction. The other issue would be the use of it outside. I am not sure how well it will hold up to the elements.
do you know what the difference is with Eagle Supreme Seal Clear High Gloss Solvent-Based Acrylic Concrete Sealer?
Ryan Cobb I haven’t used that one. I would think it would be similar.
Have you had any issues with it peeling up from hot tires?
Great question. I have had no issue with this at all. Because this product is put on a bare floor, it is able to bond with it.
Hi John. Will this hide existing scratches on bare concrete?
K Barton this will not. It makes everything more pronounced. So if you have spots that need to be dealt with all of that should be done before you apply this.
Could you put concrete stain ( to give it color) on first and put the clear over it?
They have colors you can add to the product that will give you the look you are talking about.
I want to use this product but need to fill cracks first. Do you know what product your concrete guy used to fill you garage crack?
I do not. I know it was a two part epoxy but I don’t know what it was called. It required a special tool to use.
Can you recommend a crack filler that works well with the Eagle sealer? Thanks,
That’s a great question. I haven’t worked with any personally but gives me an idea for another video.
Is that a oil base?
May have to consider this.
I just put down epoxy in my living room, but I'd like a thicker coating, and epoxy is freaking expensive.
Don't need to worry about gas, but we have an older dog who no longer goes outside and sometimes misses her pads.
Any idea how this holds up to urine?
How about scratches from shifting furniture around?
I could easily do three coats with 5 gallons.
Thank you so much. It has been a great alternative for me. I don’t have any experience with pet urine but the coating will scratch some with moving furniture. The more coats the better for preventing this.
@@JohnEngel I grew up in a home that was a shrine to acquisition - everything in slip covers, runners over the carpet all that jazz.
My home is not that shrine.
I cam live with a few scratches here and there - especially if I can slap $100 worth of sealer on it every couple of years.
I ripped out the carpets because while my carpet cleaner works really well, doing it every other day was a drag and I was concerned about moisture permeating my pressboard subfloor hence the epoxy. I ran it all the way to the bottom edge of the drywall, so a puddle can't work it's way through the gap that way either.
Kitchen is the next project - ratty old vinyl floor covering.
Gotta decide whether to do ripped plywood like I did in the bedroom - looks great and dirt cheap - or epoxy, or epoxy and then the clear coat.
I think I could get by with just a seal cost of epoxy and then clear coat over that.
Try heating the diesel stain with a torch until it burns to ash (turns grey). You would probably have to re seal the part that you heated. Start in a small spot and wear safety glasses because water in the concrete can make it pop when heated.
Great idea. Thank you.
@@JohnEngel Going further would be to put gas on the diesel to dilute it, light it on fire (to burn what you can) and then torch it. Also, could try sanding off the sealer and putting (slightly) soapy water on the diesel to see if the soapy water can get under it and get it to float to the surface. Let dry, then torch. Techniseal oil remover is the best product but your sealer may block it.
Can you use this product on a painted concrete floor?
You can.
why didn't you cut relief joints in the concrete slab?
There are.
The part that has been outside the entire time looks a like it might have yellowed a little. Is that the case?
It is possibly a little more yellow than the rest but because of how the sun hits it in the video, it makes it look much more yellowish than in real life.
Would you recommend this product for patios and driveways?
This is one of my favorite products for the price point. With that being said it makes things very slippery when wet. I would not do this to a driveway but I would use it for a patio.
Good video, thanks for update! So is the 43rd person who comments getting a vehicle?... because that me! Haha I just bought some Eagle
Gloss to do my garage here in the next few days, they need to give you a kickback for getting them
New customers!
Lol. Best comment yet. Thank you again.
Do you think you could add the color chips like for an epoxy floor to the first coat then follow up with a 2nd or even 3rd coat to seal them down?
I know that you can tint the sealant but I am not sure if you can add flakes. I’m not sure why you couldn’t.
@@JohnEngel I was thinking that or some coarse metal flake
@@jimmassey1441 if it works this would help with wet traction as well.
Thanks for video. Was the sealer oil or water base
It’s a solvent-based acrylic.
AMEN thank you
Does it only come in a 5 gallon bucket? My garage is 22’ x 22’
It also comes in 1 gallon buckets :)
How does the coating hold up to winter salt?
Thank you and great question. I live in SC and we don't have salt because we don't get snow. I am curious as well. I would love to know if anyone has used this in the north?
Is this surface a slip hazzard when wet? Should grit be added?
Anything wet is a slip hazard lol
It does get slippery when wet and grit can be added to help.
Is it slippery when wet? Like after a rain?
It is. They make aggregate that you can add to the sealant when you apply it but I did not do this.
My daughter is wanting a little thickness on the coating. Is there any thickness at all with this product? Thank you for your review!
Tari Newton not really. It’s not like an epoxy. It really gets absorbed into the concrete.
@@JohnEngel Thank you so much for your reply!!! I appreciate it!
How slippery is it when wet ? We have a lot of snow here in the Northeast and I was wondering if it gets slippery.
It does make it very slippery when wet. You can add aggregate to the floor coating to help prevent with slipping.
@@JohnEngel do you think I could add the flakes used with epoxy to the sealer ? When you say add aggregate, would I be able to mix it with the sealer before applying ?
How would this work on an outdoor concrete basketball court?
It would work fine. The thing you have to keep in mind is that it will make it slippery when wet.
Lets talk about that stable in the basement.....nice.
Thank you so much. :) a little bit of everything.
This Eagle gloss now costs 50% more than it was 3 years ago.. and for some reason it's not sold in Virginia. I'm going to drive down to Durham, NC to pick it up from the Home Depot down there..
Everything cost more now. It’s a shame. Still at 150, it’s the best bang for the buck.
Been looking for a Clear coat Cover over my Epoxy Painted Garage floor. Rust oleum products did NOT WORK and I am trying to get my $$$$ back because it is like I never used anything at all??? This Product looks Awesome and will be ordering it ASAP HANKS!!!!
This product should not be used over a coated floor. Part of the process is to allow it to bond with the porous concrete.
GOT YA THANK YOU FOR SAVING ME..... WHAT DO YOU RECOMMEND OVER EPOXY PAINTED FLOOR THATS HIGH GLOSS CLEAR? i AM STRUGGLING.. rUSTOLEUM PRODUCTS HAVE NOT COVERED AT ALL GETTING MY $$ BACK!\
@@williambissell5943 the best thing would be a clear epoxy at this point. Not cheap but can do what you are looking for.
I'd love to get this stuff but is it waterproof? If I used it in my garage and then washed my car in the garage would the water just pool or would it soak in like it does to the concrete?
It will pool.
@@JohnEngel Thank you
If the floor gets wet is it slippery to walk on?
Thank you for the question. When wet, the floor is very slippery.
can you put this on a painted floor, and will it change the color?
I would not suggest using this on a painted floor, as the product will not be able to penetrate the concrete.
Will this keep help keep humidity out also by sealing the floor?
just me kinda but not if it’s coming from the bottom.
@@JohnEngel That's what I wondered, think mine is from the bottom. Thanks
So I could acid stain my floors and put this on top right?
Rachael Garner absolutely. :)
Are these floors real slippery when they are wet???
Never mind, I read comments below :) thanks.
Will hot vehicle tires lift this sealer?
I have not had this issue at all.
Wow your slab cracked too, with the control joints and all? I've found that no matter what the preparations for pouring a slab include, if the planets aren't in alignment...Crack.
So true. Thank you.
Can you use this over a painted garage floor?
It’s made to be absorbed into the concrete so using it over paint won’t allow this to happen.
Do the floors get slippery when wet?
Hey Terry, they do get slippery when wet. The good news is that you can add an aggregate to this product, which will create a much better traction when wet.
I’ve been looking at their concrete dye and then overlaying this gloss for my 800sqft garage. Anyone used the dye they offer in a garage?
Matt R I haven’t personally but I know others have dyed it then sealed.
Would you recommend this for a driveway ?
I personally would not. This product does become very slippery when wet, unless that is what you’re looking for.
nice. I have the same cars you have :)
Nice. Which ones?
@@JohnEngel I have a 2- 95 gt/saleen's, 1 94 cobra, and just bought a terminator last year. One of the 95 is wrecked though
Do they have something that i can use on porcelain?
That’s a great question. I haven’t used anything on porcelain so I am not sure.
