One of the many things that makes this channel great is how open you are about cost of materials, sponsored content, what sponsors paid for, income from the channel. I wish more UA-camers were like this.

The thing keeping me from doing this in my garage isn’t the cost, it’s emptying my garage and keeping it empty for a week.

I just had my garage professionally epoxy resined. I had to take everything out of my garage for 2 weeks.. It took one week to apply the epoxy. 5 coats in total.. 1 base coat 2 top coats with flakes and 2 polyurethane sealer coats.. The guy in this video absolutely did not do it properly and his floor will not last 20 plus years like it should. It took 1 week to complete the job and you need to wait another 1 week for the epoxy to cure to 100 percent.

I wish I had used a diamond grinder instead of the shot blaster when I did this. The glorified angle grinder shot blaster was inconsistent causing excessive pitting and took forever. Not to mention high material costs for the actual blast beads. I used rustoleum instead of leggari in a commercial bar environment and it worked great with the only wear spot being where the crappy dishwasher was always drug out for service. Good tips all in all though, you should be happy with that for a long time, I would like to do something similar with the addition of caulked gaps for a smooth transition from wall to floor.

Nice job on your floor. You did a great job explaining the actual amount of work involved. Most people don’t understand this and cringe when you tell them how much a floor costs installed professionally. I’m also glad you broke down the actual cost of professional epoxy (100% solids) as opposed to big box store epoxy. (There is a difference). Keep up the good work. Looking forward to the next video.

I ended up spending thousands of dollars on my garage and I have no idea how long it took. Mine has a grade at the last 1/3 but I ended up using a copper metallic and grey charcoal that looks amazing in the sunlight. I also put in dimmable LED's that makes my garage look like a show room.
I wish I had cut the end like you did where the garage door goes down because the sun light and heat are really hard on the epoxy. It is so easy to clean, I can't tell you how beautiful the floor is when you are done. It was worth every penny and I would do it again.

Always opt for the traction enhancement - epoxy floors get really slippery with any dust, water, or oil on them!
We did an 1,100 room with an epoxy floor at our makerspace. We did not do the same prep work, because the floor had carpet glued to the tile at one point and all that was left was the glue. It took us 2 weeks with scrapers, solvents and finally a motorized wire brush machine that we borrowed (and broke and had to fix in order to finish) to clean the floor. We used epoxy paint from a local paint company without a primer, chips or topcoat. We cut the epoxy paint with 50% Xylene by volume to make it go down easily with rollers, but that really lengthened the cure time: No walking on it for 3 days, to moving furniture for a week, 3 weeks before we would be able to move in heavy workbenches or machines without risking damage. Two coats went down in two days (paint, cure, second coat). It took two people with VOC cartridges, gloves and paper socks 3 1/2 hours to coat the floor. There were no windows, so we did not opt for UV Stabilizers.
We did it for $1800, including consumables (but not including the cost of the wire brush machine repair) in early 2013 but it was a lot of work. We moved out last year and the floor was still great looking despite 5+ years of maker shenanigans.

We've epoxied a few floors over the years and after the first one I quickly learned that using a traction additive is a must. The first floor was like an ice rink whenever you had any moisture on the bottom of your shoes. I'm personally not into flakes because I like super clean looking shop floors so I'm not sure if they add sufficient traction to pass on that step 🤔

Probably not going to invest in epoxy floors in the garage/shop of our current house, BUT. Just want to point out my gratitude Travis for the way you take subjects with tons of content and/or product options out there, research it all, then boil it down to a great option for us all to consider. "Which, you know... is neat." Laughed. My favorite term for those type of situations is, "Well, that's novel." This is an excellent step-by-step. I've done, and seen, concrete "paintable" coatings and they flake off as soon as water finds a pin hole OR if the concrete is porous enough to bubble from underneath. The prep, the primer and the top coat had me nodding and pointing at the screen the whole time. Great video!

Looks nice dude. I went with a much cheaper option, and still broke the bank in the process (probably 2.5 times your area). I did mine a few years ago now but it still looks great. I was recommended what I got from a friend who worked at a marina. He said it holds up to the weather here, and all the caustic fluids they could throw at it, and I believe him. What you used is MUCH nicer though. No regrets for what I used, but I'd have definitely upgraded to this stuff if I could.

The square footage of my pole barn shop is 1300 sq.ft., so I'll first need to fatten up my piggy bank a bit. I agree with you on the cost of putting out for a good product. We have a 2 car garage that I paid to have a company come install it for me. Cost about $2300.00 and it came out perfect, have had it for 8 years now and it still looks as good as the day it was installed. This is too much work for the average Joe. The preparation of the floor is the most important part and they completed the job in 2 days.

Uhg.. yeah putting down a good and long lasting garage floor sure is a long...loooooong process, especially when it comes to prepping. Hell I did our 2 1/2 garage just a few months ago, used a 4" hand grinder on the whole surface (because I was being a stupid cheap ass... 10/10 would rent a machine if I did it again), not to mention the numerous cleans and etches. But the end result is extremely satisfying and should last a long time! No peels or anything yet :)

Looks really cool, and looks different depending on what kind of lighting is on it and time of day. Its kinda neat, with sun on it glittlers blue, green and purple almost, can see it from the street if garage door is opn. Only thing was the joints are still showing a bit and was supposed to be a seamless floor. But it looks so good to me I don't even mind that much.

  • @dbeaus

After you finish the topcoat, close the garage doors. This will Increase the cure time but keep little animals and bugs and dust from becoming part of your floor. Vent out thru the side windows which should have screens. Top coat of urethane is a good idea, but I am not sure it is necessary and if you don't know what you are doing, can be a big problem. Venting is crucial for urethane since the solvents are toxic and will make you sick. Heat and humidity are also problems. If there is a change in either it will effect the mix/application time of epoxy.

Travis! I have been researching epoxy coatings for months, planning to do my garage floor at the end of summer. Will you please tell us, in all honesty, if you have ANY hot tire pick-up issues? Also, I live in Western Pennsylvania where more road salt, coated with calcium chloride, is spread on the roadways than in any other city I've ever been in. I believe you get what you pay for also, and I am more than willing to put in the prep time and effort necessary to apply the Laggari product as I trust your recommendation. However, it would be a crying shame- and a costly project ruined- if the road salt dropping off my wife's vehicle in her garage/my shop were to damage the floor or if the hot tires on my pick-up pulled up the product when I drive in to unload materials. Thanks for the insight!

I'll answer this.. Google Xtreme polishing systems. Call em up they can explain everything on how to do your floor. One stop shop for all supplies it's a professional distrubor... they also teach classes to do this professionally as a business and get you up and running as a business but sell their products to DIY guys as well.. same cost no gimmicks. They have hundreds of videos on youtube.. watch a lot of them find the ones where they go into detail start to finish. Biggest hurdle is grinding the floor coating off to CSP 3-5 my area didn't have a rental place I could find.. paid a company to do it.. was cheap. Cost of materials and shoes rollers squeegee etc. was $1500 1 year ago.. Cost to grind floor was $600... resell value on home I'll get $2000-$3000 back... so I lose $300 including fix worse case scenario. My neighbor is a realtor has appraise all my house improvements for home resell value so this was a win win.
I mean everything you need to do the floor yourself Xtreme sells Not high price either.. very cheap but very good products. I'm not a spokesperson for epoxy or thus company. I did my own researching. I'm a woodworker hobbiest only, I'll retire in about 4-8 years and do this full time for fun/charity maybe do my own youtube channel like shop nation guy... anything I recommend is top notch quality.. price is mute to me.. but this place is about the best product and price.. he paid $2300 and it be about the same price for 750sqft. The product is way better.. 20+ year floor product.. I can beat it up dropping chisels.. when I sell the home.. easy fix.. sand floor.. pour clear epoxy thin coat done.. for about $200. Floor is 100% moisture barrier.. dead flat garage not kidding. My coating is 25 mills about 17mils of which is clear top coat. From his video I'm gonna guess his is like 6 to 8 mils thick and since this will be a shop enivronment it will last 8 years roughly.. Mine will last 20 years same cost cause of my super thick coating.. Mines 400 sqft but 4 x thicker.. no flake, it's silver metallic marble look. Top coat was poured thick to protect color coat.. easy sand and fix floor for cheap when I sell home. Drop a chisel/hammer no probelm.. can gouge floor and easy fix which I've done.. metal screw I pushed into floor rolling around a 600lbs machines by accident wheel hit the screw. Left a nasty gouge.... I'm not worried good traction spot lol.. easy fix later. So give them a hard look next time when in the market for floor coverings and hope you enjoyed my very long research to find this type of product and business.

The price of the Leggari products really floored me. A two car garage at 500 sq ft was going to cost me close to $3000. The estimates I got for contractors to do the whole thing were between $3300 and $3700. I wonder what products the contractors were using. I suppose if the contractor was going to use the Leggari products the estimates would have been more like $5000 ??

3.50 sq ft and it's not the cheap stuff either. Not sure where you're getting the cost at 5-7 sq ft. That's seems ridiculous and I'm in Chicago where labor cost are high. Took 3 days to do. Only the first day was full 10 hr day as it involved the grinding and primer. Second day epoxy and flake and 3rd day was the clear coat. 2nd and 3rd day were shorter days for the crew.

Idk if this is per state but here in utah the most expensive we got quoted for out of 4 places was $3.5/sqft. We ended doing a 750sqft garage with walls and stairs done for $2450 total!! So to me thats crazy!! At that price you can just buy the colored concrete and pour yourself a new garage. Lol.

Hello, Nice to know there are so many experts out there. Some GREAT questions and awesome answers. I haven't done this before but have my floor prepped and drying. Waiting for the epoxy to arrive at the door. I couldn't find the roller type listed anywhere (couldn't find the list that was mentioned) and what is the best way and the best time to get the flakes on the VERTICAL stem walls? I would think I want to do them first so the floor immediately in front of them doesn't get over-saturated with flakes but details? Thanks

Duct tape a plastic cup holder and you're good. Love how it increases brightness too.
I wish you would have reminded people that for that cost it will last a long time and be worth it over that time. That amount of money is low to everyone when you change perspective. And equity investing in home I guess too. Patios and fences can cost more than a reasonably priced car. Ha :)

Okie wish you said something prior doing all this. Leggari is Okay ishhh product. Xtreme polishing system way better and cheaper. Before you take leaps.. sometimes just ask your viewers opinions.. could of set you up really good on how to do it better cheaper and faster. Good video though. Don't know how to post a pic of my floor or i would show everyone. Unforunately im computer/cellphone illiterate and can't find a way to post it up.

You should look into polyurea, it's much better than epoxy, more durable, doesn't yellow on the sun, and doesn't keep hardening like epoxy does. The epoxy never stops curing.

I had a company just do mine, polyurethane. Ebony Kristalina system from flowcrete. Basically black with tiny white/navy blue specs and silver glitter. Looks like outerspace lol but its pretty cool and looks amazing when the sun is on it and door is open. Can see it sparkling from the street.

Great video and instructions. My friend had his floor professionally done and I noticed that the floor had little bumps and dips due to the high volume of flakes used. I recently got an estimate from a different company and asked if I can have the floor smooth rather than bumpy like their sample tile. The answer was no and was told the flakes add to the integrity of the epoxy. Did your floor come out smooth and if so was it because you scraped off the loose flakes before the last step?

that you got an awesome deal from Legarri ! I watched the part of your video where you broke down YOUR cost with the disclaimer that Leggari provided your raw materials. So I don't know exactly where you got the $1,680 dollar amount from. I just received my quote from Leggari for my 1,000 SQFT Garage Condo and it is ~ $ 3,400.00 for just the Leggari products.
Will you please provide more info on the working times of the product and how long each day took. From their product literature, once you have applied the primer base, you'll need to start applying the epoxy base within ~ 4 hours before the epoxy completely sets up or you'll have to come back and scuff the primary for proper adhesion.
Did you use the two bucket system while mixing, and did you use the denatured alcohol step?
Overall, I agree with your assessment of Leggari Products.
    Looking forward to follow-up videos...

Not the best from what I have gathered for a working shop garage. Heard they can move and creek when using a floor jack and small fasteners and things can lodge in the cracks. Can you confirm that?

Question: I’m a first-time home owner and was considering doing this for my sunroom that used to be carpeted; any thoughts or suggestions?
I’ve already torn up the carpet and filled the cracks, but there is this yellowish carpet glue still remaining on large portions of the sunroom. Not sure how much of an issue that is
