You can turn this into a Hollywood Horror film so easily. Some scenes are already cinematic, like the guy who spilled the beans getting pulled into the darkness in nanoseconds.
It’s amazing that there just so many monsters in Japanese myth that take on the forms of a seductive young woman, I mean you find them in other types of myths around the world (Deer women from Native Americans for example) but Japan has them in just such a abundance.

As someone who only fairly recently started getting back into anime and some japanese games it's really interesting to learn the back stories of traditional folklore and realize how they inspired really interesting characters/stories that are still popular today
There once was a blacksmith, who lived in the forest. Her face was always covered by a mask when she interacted with patrons. her arms covered by the heavy sleeves of a leather kimono. No one ever saw her working but her wares were quite extrodinary in their craftmanship. One day, a boy from the village passed the window of her workshop. Curious by the sounds of metal on metal, he peeked in with a shock. The Blacksmith seemed to be quite beautiful despite the extra arms petruding from her back along with a rather round spider like abdomin. With a gasp, the boy had ran back to the village to tell the tale. Upon the return to the blacksmith's home with the villagers in toe. It was all gone but a single strand of spider silk.

Its probably like witch burnings in that they happened but a lot less than its made out to be by senzationalised modern depictions. Most people back then would likely know that stories were mostly just stories, something to make life more interesting, but likely of little merit as they had lived most of their own life without seeing anything supernatural.
