    Alan Watts (1915-1973) who held both a master's degree in theology and a doctorate of divinity, is best known as an interpreter of Zen Buddhism in particular, and Indian and Chinese philosophy in general. He authored more than 20 excellent books on the philosophy and psychology of religion, and lectured extensively, leaving behind a vast audio archive. With characteristic lucidity and humor Watts unravels the most obscure ontological and epistemological knots with the greatest of ease. - deoxy.org/watts.htm

    You're the universe, go with the flow and enjoy it. Fight it and you're fighting with yourself. Life's a huge cosmic joke, the best one never told.

    He's not saying that we literally create the universe. But by being this organism, we evoke this particular experience of the universe: Light, sound, smell, taste and touch. All of which cannot be explained in words but just experienced as they are. Different organisms process the multitude of vibrations of the universe in a staggering number of ways. We have this experience, a tarantula will have a different one altogether.

    However many years later, and he is absolutely right at the 2:00 minute mark. Your eye ACTUALLY emits photons out of it in order to apparently pick up that lights reflection of the object which in turns enables the sense of Sight to function.

    "A human being is part of the whole called by us universe, a part limited in time and space. We experience ourselves, our thoughts and feelings as something separate from the rest. A kind of optical delusion of consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from the prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures..." --Albert Einstein

    • @Ieatbabyseals
      @Ieatbabyseals 10 років тому

      Though Alan Watts valued a psychodelic experience, Alan Watts wouldn't say it's necessary to have like Leary would. Timothy Leary was wonderful at throwing out "What ifs" and Alan Watts had more structured relatable "What ifs" (in my opinion). Though Alan Watts does have some wonderful lectures on LSD and other psychodelics.

    It is as easy as being what you naturally are, our societies and cultures just make it hard for many to make that move psychologically. Many have cracked when they realized that the world that man laid over the earth is the fallacy.

  • @subermanification
    @subermanification 12 років тому

    @soulmate119nickmel He is implying that sight as an experience is only the way our consciousness deals with a phenomena, that otherwise existed irrespectively of us. That is, photons always went about their business but they became 'light' when an organism evolved an ability to utilize them and render them to the conscious.

    >> Some people will use a symbolism of the relationship of #God to the #universe , wherein God is a brilliant light, only somehow veiled, hiding underneath all these forms as you look around you. So far so good. But the truth is funnier than that. It is that you are looking right at the brilliant light now, that the experience you are having that you call ordinary everyday consciousness--pretending you're not it--that experience is exactly the same thing as "IT". There's no difference at all. And when you find that out, you laugh yourself silly. That's the great #discovery . [...] The source of all light is in the Eye!

      He used to call himself the (a) Rascal Guru. There is a certain honesty in this. He was most certainly one of the great commentators of the 20th Century in the field of spirituality. He liked a drink and a smoke and didn't hide the fact. he wasn't a hypocrite. He just told it as he understood it. Pretty good for a self-made man

    So life is pain, in essence...suffering owing to desire, if could stop desiring, stop suffering...now I want to (desire to ) stop desiring, the man says, and Budda says why would you want to do that...desire already is....so, my point, again...the suffering or what have you, is part of IT, to Alan (though he does not say it), and don't try to end that, i.,e. get a leg up on the universe, so, go with the flow...but by the same token, hell, just bang that chick then, married or not, you desire to?

      @Timothy2239 10 років тому

      Oh, I'm not trying to question how well you know the English language. But, that you have failed to see what point Alan Watts gave. What he does give you are examples that you *Invoke* light out of the universe. This doesn't mean you create or emit light in anyway.

    • @Elusive0101
      @Elusive0101 10 років тому +6

      All he is saying is that without our vision, light would not exist. He is right. Light is simply a subjective interpretation of sense to see. You form images in the back of your brain yet no light actually reachers there, it is all simply electromagnetic signals made into subjective and recognizable patterns.

Humans are a creation of this universe not the opposite; the universe a creation of humans. The true question is what humans will do with this awareness. Was this earth made for humans or humans for the earth?
