Listened to Alan Watts at 14. Don’t know what it is that made his words resonate at the time. It helped me through my suffering. At 31, his words still soothing and still helping me through my suffering. A lifetime of suffering is bearable derives from his teachings (I’ve since added lessons from Dostoevsky, Kierkegaard, Nitzche, and Bible in the last 17 years). I might even say these lessons make the suffering meaningful.

He says so many profound things that just keep cutting me deep. Almost had me in tears talking about screens and phones as I’m walking down the street looking at the eerie glow coming from the windows.
The most fascinating part of all this is that Alan was describing a world his audience would never live in. That is to say, Alan Watts lived in the ancient, past, present and future in one life. So in his simplicity, he had a teleporting machine at least

It's the eternal truth which our culture teaches us everyday. We & everything around us is impermanent, once you accept this truth everything becomes simplified and clear but to truly accept this is tough. As the Gita says- it's not that I do not own anything, it's that nothing owns me, once we understand this we are everything and at the same time nothing

He was an amazing man. Why is it that he was so wise - yet he became an alcoholic later in life? Was it because he became frustrated that so many didn’t heed his wisdom? It seems just a tragic waste of such a genius. What is others opinion on why he changed so much? Am so grateful that he shared so much invaluable knowledge and learning with us all.

Here's a little funny story from Alan Watts, the renowned philosopher and speaker: Once upon a time, there was a man who was extremely concerned about finding the meaning of life. He went from one guru to another, attended countless spiritual retreats, and read every self-help book he could get his hands on. But no matter how hard he searched, he couldn't find the answer he was seeking. One day, he stumbled upon a wise old sage sitting under a tree. Excitedly, he approached the sage and asked, "Oh wise one, can you tell me the meaning of life?" The sage looked at him with a mischievous smile and said, "Ah, my friend, life is like a cup of tea." Perplexed, the man replied, "A cup of tea? How is life like a cup of tea?" The sage replied, "Well, when you pour tea into a cup, the cup becomes the vessel that holds the tea. Similarly, life fills you with experiences, adventures, and emotions. But just as you don't cling to the cup after you finish your tea, you shouldn't cling to life. Savor it, enjoy it, but don't hold on too tightly." The man pondered the sage's words for a moment and then asked, "But what happens when the cup is empty?" The sage laughed and replied, "Ah, my friend, when the cup is empty, it's time to get up, go to the kitchen, and pour yourself another cup of tea!" And with that, the man realized that the search for the meaning of life was not about finding a single profound answer, but rather about embracing the ever-changing and unpredictable journey itself. Remember, life is like a cup of tea-enjoy it while it's hot, but don't forget to refill your cup when it's empty.

Here's a little funny story from Alan Watts, the renowned philosopher and speaker:
Once upon a time, there was a man who was extremely concerned about finding the meaning of life. He went from one guru to another, attended countless spiritual retreats, and read every self-help book he could get his hands on. But no matter how hard he searched, he couldn't find the answer he was seeking.
One day, he stumbled upon a wise old sage sitting under a tree. Excitedly, he approached the sage and asked, "Oh wise one, can you tell me the meaning of life?"
The sage looked at him with a mischievous smile and said, "Ah, my friend, life is like a cup of tea."
Perplexed, the man replied, "A cup of tea? How is life like a cup of tea?"
The sage replied, "Well, when you pour tea into a cup, the cup becomes the vessel that holds the tea. Similarly, life fills you with experiences, adventures, and emotions. But just as you don't cling to the cup after you finish your tea, you shouldn't cling to life. Savor it, enjoy it, but don't hold on too tightly."
The man pondered the sage's words for a moment and then asked, "But what happens when the cup is empty?"
The sage laughed and replied, "Ah, my friend, when the cup is empty, it's time to get up, go to the kitchen, and pour yourself another cup of tea!"
And with that, the man realized that the search for the meaning of life was not about finding a single profound answer, but rather about embracing the ever-changing and unpredictable journey itself.
Remember, life is like a cup of tea-enjoy it while it's hot, but don't forget to refill your cup when it's empty.
