    🚨18:48 FYI for people watching.
In this situation, to avoid any guess work on where you should place your pieces (eg. your Queen), never place your piece/s the same color square as your King, to avoid getting Forked.
Same strategy when you’re dealing against a Knight. Avoid placing your piece/s the same color square as your King whenever a Knight is nearby. (eg. your Rook, etc.)
As always, great video, coach! 💯‼️👍

The difference in the Evans gambit game is that your way allows them to develop the second knight and castle but your way was still winning. As a big Evans gambit player I was happy to see it give you an easy win. It’s a very underrated opening.

Why is it when I watch you play, 10 minutes seems like plenty of time to make thoughtful, decent moves but when I play, I feel like if I spend any time thinking about moves I end up panicking because I start to run out of time?

      It happens to me, too.
Nelson is (obviously) higher rated (NM at that), has lots of experience and very deep understanding of position, pieces, strategies and tactics. He understands the strength and weakness of a certain move and position very well. He almost always has a follow up and a plan to proceed. He knows a lot of theory and openings and respective traps. He can spot mistakes and inaccuracies quickly and precisely. Last but not the least, he is a very high rated bullet and blitz player, so he can blitz out moves as bullets (pun intended) without making mistakes.
Us lower rated folks lack in all these aspects and well, blunder winning positions frequently.

Hey Nelson, in the second match you asked why stockfish said d5 first, then the fork. It's actually pretty simple, you take the opponent's bishop pair. The other way you took the knight instead. Although they are both pieces, you know having the bishop pair can be a big deal.

    • @flotto7045
      @flotto7045 Місяць тому

Naaw, he's just looking at the wrong line. Black doesn't have to move the knight and give the bishop. d5, Nge7, dxc6, Nxc6 -> Now it's whites turn and black hasnt castled yet.
Qa5, Nge7, d5, O-O, dxc6, Nxc6 -> whites turn, black castled and the white queen is kinda out of place at a5 as seen in the game.
The difference is just a tempo. The queen going to a5 is way less powerful than the threat of the queen going to a5

Been following this series as ~1940 classical and I'll admit most pointers made are just as useful to me as to sub-1600! Wanted to add in with regards to the 9.d5 vs 9.Qa4 in that Evans tactic (38:51): generally more options for the opponent means more ways to mess up but also more lines to miss. Best move after 9.d5 is 9....Nge7, just surrendering Nc6 outright but that's a very counterintuitive move to play. 9....Ne5? 10.Nxe5 dxe5 11.Qa4+ +- is the better variation for White and 9....Na5?! 10.Qa4+ Bd7 11.Qxb4 kind of forces 11....Nxc4 12.Qxc4 +- trading more pieces and White has all the freedom to develop the queen side. After 9.Qa4?! I indeed don't like 9....Ne7 10.d5 O-O, given you were going to win Nc6 anyway, Bb4 is anchored for a while and Black castled. In practice still won 9/10 times but Black's definitely in a slightly better shape.

Hello Nelson, at timeframe 34:31 of game 2, you were deciding what move to make and you were worried about losing a rook. I was wondering why you didn't think about playing Ne7+ because if the king moves anywhere you then play Qxb7 with a fork on the rooks, and if Rxe7 then just Qxe7 defending your rooks and threatening back rank checkmate.
Hope you have a nice day!

You lost to a 1600 so you must be at 1599. That's still pretty good!

So to get to 1600 you need the ability to take games off of master players wild

Hmm.. Interesting.. I have started to see your basic mistakes even I'm just over 1800 fide. You play pretty solid, but you have these braindeads, when you play with your level opponents.
I don't know where my vision is coming from but that is fact as i did play loots of these games with my grandpa when i was a child.
