    CLIP DESCRIPTION:
When Drummond (Spencer Tracy) makes an impassioned plea to the court to stand up against fanaticism and ignorance, he is held in contempt of court.
    FILM DESCRIPTION:
The Evolution vs. Creationism argument is at the center of the Jerome Lawrence-Robert E. Lee Broadway play Inherit the Wind. Lawrence and Lee's inspiration was the 1925 "Monkey Trial," in which Tennessee schoolteacher John Scopes was arrested for teaching Darwin's theory of evolution in violation of state law. Scopes deliberately courted arrest to challenge what he and his supporters saw as an unjust law, and the trial became a national cause when The Baltimore Sun, represented by the famed (and atheistic) journalist H. L. Mencken, hired attorney Clarence Darrow to defend Scopes. The prosecuting attorney was crusading politician William Jennings Bryan, once a serious contender for the Presidency, now a relic of a past era. While Bryan won the case as expected, he and his fundamentalist backers were held up to public ridicule by the cagey Darrow. In both the play and film versions of Inherit the Wind, the names and places are changed, but the basic chronology was retained, along with most of the original court transcripts. John Scopes becomes Bertram Cates (Dick York); Clarence Darrow is Henry Drummond (Spencer Tracy); William Jennings Bryan is Matthew Harrison Brady (Fredric March); and H. L. Mencken is E. K. Hornbeck (Gene Kelly). Dayton, Tennessee is transformed into Hillsboro -- or, as the relentlessly cynical Hornbeck characterizes it, "Heavenly Hillsboro."

Tracy's tirade has to be one of the greatest courtroom speeches in film history. He was ABSOLUTELY on fire! In light of the Sacking of the Capitol on Jan.6th these words are more relevant now than ever. So beware, everyone--fanaticism and ignorance are still out there, AND THEY ARE MORE HUNGRY THAN EVER.

Let's see how pseudo science is being used to convince you that you are nothing but a fish update who sprang from some antiscientific primal pond type scenario, and who certainly doesn't have a Heavenly Father Who...loves...you. Then let's look at some real science, a bit outside the box.
      .
We have been told that life came from inorganic matter. Now, science must have observable data to be valid and must not ignore the actual data. The actual data, per the LAW of Biogenesis? Life always comes only from life and life of the same kind. Theories are fine if they don't defy the actual evidence. Even in labs, with intelligent design and high tech equipment, life has never been created. The best they can do is take an already living cell and alter it with genetic engineering, or get a few components of the cell, not nearly all of them at al, which never come close to being alive..
      .
The needed proteins and other components of a cell are not only not all there, they are not arranged as they need to be arranged - in statistically impossible ways if random chance had put them together. No one has even gotten close to creating life. It should be easy. Just take a simple cell or any life form that has died. There you have all the components needed for life - except life. So why can't anyone do a Dr. Frankenstein on any of them? (And kindly don't say that evolution doesn't "do" abiogenesis. Look. It's in evolution writings and documentaries, and all over the net and YT.)
      .
We have also been told as gawd's truth scientific fact that a 3 foot high ape type creature, an Australopithecus, Lucy, was your great, great etc. granny. Based on? Some minor similarities, namely "similar homology", namely the Correlation Does Not Imply Causation logical fallacy. The fact that she was pretty much like any other ol' Australopithecus was irrelevant to them. Incomplete Comparison logical fallacy.
      .
Since evolutionists are always disagreeing with one another on everything, now some of them say, No, it wasn't Lucy but some other such creature. Some creature with no evidence it existed. Presuming Omniscience logical fallacy.
      .
Now how do they know Lucy et al even had a single descendant, much less one significantly different from it, much less one that could turn into you? Presuming Omniscience logical fallacy.
      .
Guess for how long any "transitions" are missing between you and Lucy or some other transition du jour? Oh, for just 2 to 5 million Darwin years! The rocks say no transitions exist. The evo spin, their Presuming Omniscience logical fallacy, tells you, again as gawd's truth scientific fact, that they are just "missing."
      .
We've also been told that we came via a fish, Tiktaalik. The story goes that this...fish...was found in just the right place for a "transition". Problem is, it's 100% nothing but a...fish. See Wiki describing it as "an extinct species of lobe finned fish." Google the fossil of Tiktaalik, which is mostly missing. Do those tiny fin fragments look like they could be said to be turning into legs - without the Presuming Omniscience logical fallacy? Yet we see all sorts of fanciful art work of Tik with long, muscular "evolving" legs, bending as the fish transits, supposedly, to land. The real evidence?
      .
In countless billions of fossils and in living examples, all we ever see are 100% fish and 100% tetrapods/four legged animals. (No, mud skippers and "walking" catfish are not transitions. They are using their 100% fins in an unusual way, similar to a flying fish which is no way turning into a bird.)
      .
Evolutionists are constantly picking up fossils like Tiktaalik from the ground and telling you, for up to over a 100 million Darwin years, what happened to their invisible and evidenceless billions of "descendants." Never ask them how to tell missing links from non existent links. And then they accuse Christians of being into "magical thinking." And, as a former atheist, I agreed with that!
      .
You are not a fish update. You are infinitely more than that. Here is some actual, observable and documented evidence, to help you see that: Now in the Bible we are told of a Man Who believed in Adam and Eve and Noah as being actual, historical figures. The Bible says He did miracles and told others to do things like raise the dead and heal the sick. It also describes His death and burial. Is there any actual scientific data to support those stories?
      .
See secular news reports about Val Thomas, dead for 17 hours but now alive and normal after prayers from her family and her Church. ua-cam.com/video/sPHycsIdB1Y/v-deo.html .

See CBN's short vid with Dean Braxton. You'll hear his critical care doctor, rated the best patient care doctor in Washington state, saying "It is a miracle...a miracle..." that Braxton is alive, has no brain damage and is normal in every way. Why? He had no heart beat and no respiration for 1 3/4 hours! His family believed in divine healing and they and others were praying for him. ua-cam.com/video/c3Zjt8r-hNA/v-deo.html . Also see CBN Dr. Chauncey Crandall Raises A Man From The Dead. ua-cam.com/video/s-7ZkleLu1w/v-deo.html Part 1. This video is a bit faded but has the most complete information on this story.
      .
Get Dr. Richard Casdorph's book The Miracles. There he gives medical documentation for miracles, mostly, but not all, from Kathryn Kuhlman's healing services. Casdorph came to Kuhlman's meetings to debunk her but turned into a supporter, as did other doctors. You can see him and other doctors in some of her healing services on YT. (She is now deceased.) Delores Winder is one of the cases documented in his book. You can watch her amazing story on YT with Sid Roth. ua-cam.com/video/CfdG5czaUX0/v-deo.html
The book The Audacity of Prayer by Don Nordin lists medically documented miracles.
      .
On Andrew Wommack's vids you can see doctors talking about "miracles" too. Check out the YT vid with the ophthalmologist who says Yes, Ronald Coyne could see out of an empty eye socket after a faith healer prayed for him. You can see him doing demos. At the end of the book Don't Limit God you see a medical statement by a doctor saying that his patient used to have M.S. and diabetes but is now cured. Do you think that Someone Who can raise the dead and heal people of deadly "incurable" diseases, Someone Who created time, space, matter, energy and you - needed "evolution" to make life forms? No, He created them fully formed and fully functional in 6 days just as Genesis, a Book He always supported, tells you.
      .
Then there is the Shroud of Turin. If you don't know, the Shroud is a linen burial shroud with the faint image of a crucified man on it. If you have heard that the Shroud was proven to be a Medieval fake based on carbon 14 testing, in the documentary Jesus And The Shroud of Turin, you can see the very inventor of carbon 14 testing saying that the sample was invalid due to contamination. . ua-cam.com/video/XTtDhvk_aw4/v-deo.html . The vid demonstrates many miraculous features such as pollen from Jerusalem and faint images of flowers that are found only in the Jerusalem area during the spring, as at Passover when Messiah was crucified. With modern technology we also see that the Shroud has an x ray quality which even reveals the bones and dentition of the Man on the Shroud.
      .
In the 70s a NASA scientist noticed the Shroud's photographs had inexplicable, unique in the world, qualities. He got up a team of scientists, called STURP, to examine it in person in Italy. (No, the Shroud is not "just a Catholic thing" as the Vatican only came into possession of it fairly recently in history.) They used NASA, and other, high tech equipment, with 100s of thousands of hours of research. Their findings are seen all over the net and were published in respected science journals.
      .
The team was composed of 3 Jews, at least one agnostic and one atheist, and people of various faiths. They all agreed on these things: The Shroud image was not painted on, and they have no clue how it got there. It exactly matches, down to blood stains where a crown of thorns would be, the description of Messiah's death and burial as given in the Bible. The image could not be duplicated with modern technology.
      .
About the Shroud I say "If it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck and waddles like a duck, maybe it's a duck."
      .
Maybe that Man on the Shroud is your very Best Friend and Savior. I pray you will find that out. You're going to need a miracle some day friend. They are out there in abundance for those who humbly seek them from their Creator, the One Who made all that DNA out there, and Who said, "Whoever comes to Me I will no way cast out."

@@loricalass4068 if a person told you their parent or spouse threatened them, "I want you to choose to love me, or else I will torture you." You would probably tell the person to get out of this relationship, it's abusive, and this person is a psychopath.
Say the person told their parent/spouse, "But I don't love you" and the parent/spouse proceeded to restrain and set them on fire. And then the parent/spouse told them, "I told you that you would get burned if you didn't love me, but you chose to be burned. This is your fault, you did this to yourself: you chose this." You would think the abuser is insane and needs to be locked away where they won't be able to hurt anybody again.
But it's somehow different when it comes to God? Because "His ways are beyond ours" or "we just can't understand with our human brains"? I don't care who it is, human or God...how can you justify this and see it as moral, as right? How is it a crime to not believe in someone? How is it a crime that is so grievous, that it demands for the nonbeliever to suffer eternal torture, without any reprieve or chance to choose otherwise? Not that it would be a true choice...how can it be considered making a choice if making the "wrong choice" results in you being tortured? That doesn't count as free will.
And if God knows everything (the end from the beginning), then that means he made billions of people throughout the course of history, that he KNEW wouldn't believe. Which would mean the vast majority of people he made, he made with the intention to damn and torture them for eternity. He's all-knowing, right? And knowing so many people would end up being tortured forever, instead of choosing not to make them, he made them to suffer for eternity.
How can you worship this kind of God? How can you justify his actions? How can you look at hell and then say "God is love"? God claims to love us all, right? But he'll torture people he claims to love if we don't love him? Would you torture someone you loved? Would you torture someone for not loving you?
Love God, choose God, or choose to be tortured forever. Gee, what a choice.

@@sassylittleprophet Your post was awfully long, not that that’s a sin. But all of the gruesome references made it hard for me to finish.
Notice that the horrible things you were mentioning were things people were doing to other people, not things that the Lord was doing to them.
I’m sure you currently don’t believe it but there really is a devil. He is the one who is causing all the horrible things to happen, as a rule. This includes the lies in their hearts and their minds. He’s called the father of lies and the Messiah said that he comes to kill steal and destroy. And he’s very good at his job.
You don’t want your free will to be taken away. And the Lord has given you the gift of free will. And to everyone else. And they are using free will to do hideous things very often.
So the planet is kind of like an object lesson in my opinion. We see that when things aren’t being run the Lords way, then all hell runs loose.
If everyone would love their neighbors and keep the commandments this planet would be heaven on earth. But they choose not to do that. They choose not to do that. They choose to be their own puny little gods and cause all kinds of misery on the planet.
Yes people will go to hell if they reject the Almighty. Yes you have to have faith. The Bible says that faith works by love. If you don’t have any faith you don’t have any love for the father.
Heaven is a place for those who want to love and be loved and never hurt anyone else. It is a place where they worship the true God, the Almighty. Those who don’t want to do that frankly are not welcome in heaven.
I don’t have the time to go on and on to explain to you that much. But I would suggest this. Go to the real expert. Swallow your pride and ask him, the Lord, to help you understand why things are the way they are on earth and why he has the rules that he does.
Many people have had their lives transformed by simply asking him to let them know if the Bible is true and if he is real or not.
The answers are all there in the Bible. But without the help of prayer and the Holy Spirit you will miss it.
Nothing personal, but you will go on mute now. Again I just don’t have the time to go on and on and anyway if you don’t pray and ask the Lord to give you light nothing I say will matter anyway.

Funny I see it the complete opposite way,, you could easily substitute the religious side along with Brady in this movie with the Woke religious lots today. I believe in fact it is much more comparable...they are equally fanatical and ignorant and of course think themselves superior that their opinion or moral compass the only one that everyone else must be evaluated by.
What I really like about this film is that it doesn't really attack religion/Bible or people's faiths or beliefs but the fanatical nature that can happen when beliefs in groups goes too far..I think this is a massive problem today on the Left more than the right

I know this comment is two years old, but to call ""cancel culture"" (nebulous and ill defined as it is) book burning, as if conservatives across the US aren't banning books about Ruby Bridges, the Holocaust, the Civil War, etc is comical.

@@davidmelgar1197 Point taken, sir, but I think your comment is badly timed, to say the least. Mine looks prescient. In the two years since I made it, we have learned that Twitter actively suppressed critics of the Covid19 vaccine, spiked a story now known to be factual (i.e., a laptop owned by Hunter Biden which may contain details of his dealings with foreign governments), and gleefully dumped a sitting US president, to the deserved consternation of other world leaders.
I have never defended banning books aimed at adult audiences. Some of the books directed at children may have objectionable content. But to pretend the Right alone suppresses ideas is to reveal that you live in an echo chamber. I advise you to get out of it.

The one who sing like a fanatic in this scene is the man defending the teaching of evolution. not to mention that it is well known that this film falsely depicts William Jennings Bryan as an incoherent religious fanatic. Make no mistake about it , the truth will come out for the whole world to see that people have been duped by there American Idol which is the god of Hollywood movies.
This movie is field with historical lies about how the trial went down. but so many people think it had to be true because they saw it in a movie. SMH...
What's funny is that nowadays the opposite is true. A Christian is more liable to be treated like a criminal the way things are today while godlessness is rewarded.

    • @Brandon33akahk

Mark Applin I think you missed the point of his speech. The golden age of religion, mysticism, and witch burnings were the dark ages. Religion hailed supreme, and nothing good came from it except for violence and superstition. We live in a world where no one would be voted into the white house without saying they're a Christian. Religion is doing as well as it's ever done, not much for the advancement of man.

    • @pedestal7studios
      @pedestal7studios 7 років тому +4

Brandon Louis my friend I do realize what he was talking about and this scene and if it were unadulterated I would agree with his sentiment. however much of what he is saying is based on conjecture that has to do with religion that is not true Christianity. My real problem with this movie is the hidden spiritual agenda behind it that seeks to make believing in the one True God and His Christ the problem that plagues humanity. But I don't expect everyone to understand that. Thanks for your comment though. I get you.

    • @Brandon33akahk
      @Brandon33akahk 7 років тому +7

I'm not sure if the movie wanted to make believing in God and Christ the only problem that plagued humanity, but I'd say it seems that way because in the context of the movie, Christianity was what led to the defendants arrest, and teaching evolution a crime because it didn't align with Genesis.
But, I'll concede the point because you're right about the speech, some of the things he mentioned would happen if they lost the case like burning, and banning books isn't just a fault of religion but politics too in most cases. And religion having a hand in politics, that leads to dangerous things which is why I like the speech.

You miss the whole point of the film. Read on:
These are the comments made by the authors of the play: "Inherit the Wind is not history. The events which took place in Dayton, Tennessee, during the scorching July of 1925 are clearly the genesis of this play. It has, however, an exodus entirely of its own. [. . .] The collision of Bryan and Darrow at Dayton was dramatic, but it was not a drama. Moreover, the issues of their conflict have acquired new dimension and meaning in the thirty years since they clashed at the Rhea County Courthouse. So Inherit the Wind does not pretend to be journalism. It is theatre. It is not 1925. The stage directions set the time as "Not too long ago." It might have been yesterday. It could be tomorrow."
