DIY Portable Miter Saw Stand / Station | Shop Projects

- This expandable miter saw station is a great addition to any compact miter saw. Most saws similar to this have a small fence and bed, which limit their convenience. This DIY saw stand makes it easy to cut 2x4's and trim at any length while keeping your offcuts supported. I used scrap wood to build it and have a cut list and plans on my website linked below. Of course, if you have a different saw, you'll need to adjust the plans, but this should give you a good place to start. If you build this project, don't forget to tag me on instagram so I can see!!
Thank you in advance for your merch orders and support.

This is what most beginners and construction workers need.
This is a valuable addition to my woodwork collection ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxbnOKZBE4evMO5V2vroHeCjq6d_MV6wJO I still will rate this woodwork plan as the best in my reference library. It always seem to stand out from the rest whenever you go through the library. This is a masterpiece.
Mike! I think you may have just solved my I don't want to have a big dedicated miter saw station but would really like something a bit more than just putting the saw on a bench. Pretty good idea man, thanks for sharing!
A very big thank you, this is brilliant for hobbyist like myself. I don’t have room for a sliding mitre saw station, or any permanent station come to that. This is can live under my bench and when I need it even I, with my disabilities, can lift it out.
You know a project is going well when it's halfway complete and ready to use!
All of this is very clever. I don't work on the ground anymore. I'm using a banquet table with folding legs to work on. This is getting very close to what I'm looking to do to be portable and to simply work in my own garage. Thanks for posting.
I am just astounded that you are not using any jig to cut the plywood and cuts look insanely straight. Thank you. I will attempt this soon as my working space is very small to build a proper mitre saw station.
Awesome project! One thing I would do is make the removable blocks a "T" so that the it would slide in from the back and be held in by the screw, eliminating the need for magnets. Also, doing it this way, you would already have the height of the support needed, and the extra surface area may help the support from moving/being knocked over. Thoughts?
Exactly what I need! Great job! The only other suggestions I would make would be some type of stop block system on the removable piece so you can easily repeat cuts and to make the base of the removable piece a little longer so that it can be clamped to a plywood table top. Awesome.
Clever build. I like how it easily it went together as well as the set up and break down.
some foldable legs would be a great add-on .Awesome idea
Thanks for sharing this cool idea. I am trying to avoid having a dedicated miter saw station in my garage. Plus this allows people to have their workstation anywhere with a large, flat floor. This solves one of my concerns, Definitely giving this a shot.
Another way of designing the middle support piece to do double duty would be to use the dimensions 3 by 3-3/4 inches. Then to use it as a free-standing support you would just rotate it 90 degrees so that it would be 3 and 3/4 inches high rather than 3 inches high. This eliminates the need for the extra pieces and the magnets.
Very well thought out! Portable, and super usable.
I've just finished building a full sized station for the shop, but your idea beats everything on portability, so I might take this idea and use it as a second portable station. Great idea, using minimal resources. Well done.
Awesome!! same here.... For my 10" saw I've got a more permament setup
Great idea, super clever! You know I don't normally dig shop projects, but this is one I can dig.
Nice!!
This is absolutely brilliant
Awesome way to expand a nice miter saw like that! Works on a bench or the ground really well now!
I loved your circular saw guide. This is a pretty clever portable Mitre stand. Good stuff!
Wow, I really love how quickly you go through everything for this. Will need to watch again and again to emulate but got the basic idea down so quickly. I know what I'd like to do to improve it but no idea how: fold in legs for the table and a stop block for repeated cuts the same size. Ideas?
New to the channel. Love your work so far. There are just 2 things I would have added to this:
1: Add a ruler to the table. That way, you're able to get better length cuts without having to cave your tape measure all the time.
2: attitude a T-rail along with an adjustable stop and clamp (stop on 1 side with clamp on the other). That way, you can use the stop with the ruler and get an even better measured cut and the clamp can assist you with holding the wood if it's a longer piece. Could maybe even add a clamp onto the parts that move out to also assist with keeping things from moving so much.
I'm thinking of buying one of these Ryobi saws now. This is a cool idea for me because lugging a corded mitersaw around from job to job sucks. And, usually its just to make a few light cuts. I like their battery compatability also. I have had good luck with Ryobi corded tools too.
This is awesome... not just for portability, I always find myself cutting longer soft lumber pieces and they sag, it's awesome to have dedicated supports that already match the height of the table bed. I would just make it with more detachable support blocks, when cutting soft stuff (like baseboards) they tend to sag a lot... a few blocks along the way is much better than 1 block at the end
Mi papá estaría muy orgulloso de ti. 😭 I love You job!
Very cool idea! I'm not making a portable miter saw stand like yours but it gives me some ideas to incorporate into the one I am making.
going to build this with some scrap composit samples I have laying around, sick design dude!
Thanks for sharing the video! I like the ShopSmith 510 used for the sanding. I have an SS 510 as well. I am going to build the miter saw station following your design. Thanks!
This is brilliant! I’m making it as my next project. I used your building guides for a bed as inspiration and built a beautiful platform bed.
☀️
Nice Mike! I like how you brought the old school Modern Builds music back...
This is brilliant. Well done.
Anointed with blood! Looks super convenient. Maybe I should finally get a miter saw..
Very nice!! Portable and simple.
This is a great idea. I’m going to build one for my workshop. Right now my workbench is bout 16’ long with my mitre saw bolted to it right in the middle. With your idea I’ll be able to take it off my bench when I don’t need it and feet up some space. Only thing I’d do a little differently is make the fence extensions a little taller.
Nice build.
Pretty slick! Very portable that's for sure.
I have an ancient makita saw that is begging for this jig. I’ll set a couple 3/4 inch dowel on the bottom to lock it on my Paul style workbench. Nice build, very useful
So needed this!! Ty so much for your video!!!
I like this project and will probably build something similar for my portable miter saw. One change that I'll probably incorporate is to leave out the wing nut for the support and instead put magnets in the base. Since you already have magnets for the extra piece to raise up the supports this should be an easy change and it will make setup even faster.
It would be cool to see a video later on if you building a set of collapsed legs to go along with this set up to bring everything up to a counter height level for working more comfortably! But absolutely love this video probably going to do this with my saw!
Cut sheets with plans are welcomed. especially for beginners who don't want IKEA but to build things themselves! love you vids new sub, thank you for sharing/teaching.
Outstanding! Just what I’ve been looking for and you saved my old brain a ton of thought! Thanks!
This is a very simple and creative idea! I have been thinking of a way to create supports for my saw for a while. I do not have my miter saw attached to a bench cuz my shop is just not big enough for that so I do a lot of my cuts on my patio. Even though I am not going to mount my saw to a board the supports will be perfect so I can do away with cutting shims every time I am trying to use my miter saw.
Great build, especially for a small portable saw. You could consider adding t-track to the wings to incorporate a stop block.
Really good idea and very well presented
Brilliant idea!
Me gusta!
I'd make the middle blocks wider so you can use them on edge rather than add the piece with the magnets. Great concept 👍
Great idea and built well.
Beautiful
Remarkable. Thanks
If you sized moveable blocks correctly you could just turn them on their side and have the extra 3/4 needed, with put the extra piece, Great design .THANKS
SUPER AWESOME, Mike. Well thought out and useful project.
Just bought a mitre saw. Excellent idea. Thanks for sharing :-)
Good video, straight to the build,
Nice Job 👍🏴🇬🇧
Flipping sweet Mike!!! I love the wing extensions and those supports are ingenious.
Great design! This is a perfect solution for my laminate flooring project. Ingenious.
Ooo I love this build and the small Miter saw is sooo cute. Need to get me one.
Great video as always, Mike. Thank you. Certainly food for thought. My mitre saw is mounted on one side of a flip-top cart. It works pretty well there for 80% of what I ask of it, but I have a couple projects coming up where I'll need to trim long stock, so I'll take inspiration from your design, but probably put a sub-frame under the base to allow room for easily-removable hold-down bolts. I've also got some ideas for extending the fence and a stop-block for repeatable cuts. Then when I'm done with those bulky projects, I'll just bolt the saw down to its bench again, and hang the portable stand on the wall.
Thanks for the video my friend, something like this is what I was looking for. Although I have a workbench when I have to cut long pieces, let's say 8 feet and above, my workbench isn't long enough to support the piece properly without it falling so I put the Miter saw on the floor and do the work there. I know working there isn't good for the knees and back but you have to do things with the means available. The platform on my Hitachi saw is approximately the height of a 2x4 on its side and thats what I've been using for some time, your idea is definitely better and if I use some bolts with wing nuts to attach the saw to that base I can make it removable to store it away. Great work!
Dude, this fantastic. Was wanting a miter saw but didn't want to deal with the stand all the time. It looks like the Ryobi 7" powers through 2 x 4 pretty easily.
It definitely doesn’t have the torque as a traditional miter saw, but the portability and convenience of being battery powered it is pretty sweet!
I was looking at the One+ One but I don't want to drop $300 on a saw I won't use that often. The 7" might be the way to go.
I like your use of threaded inserts.
I dunno how you got the idea, but it's crazy unique and functional. I almost thought you were gonna add some type of stain and burn in your logo. Very dope
Good build. Very ingenious. I only have the 10 inch sliding miter saw from Ryobi so I would try to build one for that. Thanks for the idea.
Dude, great build, and awesome work bringin back the old school song!
Very helpful.
I plan to build this project. Thank you, its a great idea.
Ever since I saw the Flagrant 2 build, I get insanely motivated to get back out in my cold ass garage! I'm a huge fan of Schulz and yourself! Thank you for all you do! I would love to collaborate with you one day!

Nice and simple mike. So is the build.. 😋 haha just kidding. It's a very good idea for makers who have limited space. Or just want a portable system. I have a evolution saw and once when I was breaking up a pallet, I found that the blocks and one board was the perfect height so I kept hold of it 👍😁
This is very good. Now I'm going to keep it on my to do list. Good luck.
Well done Mike!!!
Great work
All I have to say is awesome awesome awesome
9 seconds in and I had to like it.Nice and creative.
Excellent idea !
Very clever.
Totally off subject but as a old sub you speech has developed so much 👌👍
This is DOPE.
Excellent idea Mike!!
Great project Mike, simple but really effective and easy to transport!
Great idea.. I love it.. Simple but useful..
This is an inspired design! I'm finally actually starting to make things, and this kind of shop project is exactly what a beginner like me needs.
Oh, one other thing, have you considered doing a skills video? Since your stuff is more geared to relative beginners, and your explanations are good, I feel like a circular saw/miter saw/common beginner tools skills video would help me and people like me.
I like this idea. A couple of comments:
People like to run their rails in line with the back fence. I dont like them to be directly in line, if the piece you are cutting is not perfectly straight, this may prevent you from cutting a 90° angle. I set my back a bit. For me, the miter fence us enough to set the Piece agaist to get a square cut.
When you stack up pieces to match the height of the miter saw table, you were very close to natching. I would shim that stack to be a better match. I might use paper, and glue it in with the rest of the pieces, not exposed on top.
Anyway. Congratulations on your peject. It looks terrific.
This is awesome!
This is awesome!! 👏🏽👏🏽
Throw it on some saw horses at a job site and you're in business! Clever build!
Melrose Design Company exactly!!
That's exactly what I was thinking, but then the extension pieces would be useless. I like where you are going though.
job site with that small saw? yea you would be the laughingstock of the job site 😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣
Jorge duarte hey I could hang some crown, trim or base with that sucker. Now framing, I may want to beef it up a bit haha
Melrose Design Company yes I guess you could some 3" crown lol
Love this idea!
This is killer
Great idea! For the middle removable pieces, you could mount another magnet on the base, then you don't need the middle wingnut/bolt.
Very cool project, Mike! Very handy for on the go job site work
Absolutely brilliant build 👌👌😊
Very nice work!!
Good idea 👍
Cool idea. Been working off my garage floor during a remodel - having something like this would work well!
Great idea Mike!
Hi Mike, love seeing your work. You’re great. Keep it up!
Thank you for this! Love all your videos!
Great idea for a portable miter station. love the video :) and the merch
This is brilliant!
Very innovative!
