Uncharted Waters (Genesis) former WR Save the Princess Speedrun in

Have been doing practice runs in advance of Retrothon (my run is Thursday, 4.25 at approximately 9am EDT on TTV dot RetroGamingLiveTV), and used a small breakthrough from an extremely small pb I had two days ago to break this open a bit. Even though the splits don't reflect it well (thanks to a very lazy king who failed to give us any quest for way too long), getting a Nao early ensures we have some bank left after the Galleon purchase, which lets us hit the ground running afterward.
Anything beyond minor time saves or discovering something completely new would require a more aggressive Spain/Turkey in stealing my ports, and finding pirates hanging around earlier to possibly let me skip the entire Asia loop. My previous (small) pb managed to do this, but I was confused about how to handle it, and also had insanely terrible king quest luck.
Big thanks to Zaltus33 for creating the run, GilmokToo for all the technical work and his WR run to really bring out a lot of the hidden knowledge of the game, and YT user @Can't See Me for pointing out how irrelevant visiting the princess was. Also thanks to Sedare for pointing out how we can net a little early game cash by replacing our starting 10 culverins with 1 saker!

This is my favorite game of all time. I replay it over and over and have for almost 30 years. Thanks for showing us all how fast it can really be done!

It's pretty hardcore doing speedruns of old Koei games, very nicely done. This game may seem tedious but once you get into battle and political intrigue it's pretty fun.
