    I've seen some of these clips many times and I still get chills watching them. Pistol Pete is truly one of greatest to ever lace up a pair of sneakers.

    Everyone knows Pete holds the college scoring record with 44 per game but something a lot of a people dont know is that The former LSU head coach marked down every shot he made and said that if there was a 3 pt line he would of averaged 13 3's per game and upped his average to 57 pts per game.

    • @AchillesWrath1
      @AchillesWrath1 10 років тому +9

      larreey I never said Press Maravich , i said former LSU head coach... Dale Brown to be specific. But you probably know more than him considering he only coached at LSU for 25 years. Oh do you want a source? well here you go en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pete_Maravich its under college, second paragraph. Maybe next time before you spout your mouth off like an internet tough guy you should think twice pal

    • @swaggerbrian1992
      @swaggerbrian1992 10 років тому +1

      larreey if your read another biography like Pistol, that piece of information would be in there about making 57 points a game. There is a documentary called Pistol: The Life and Times of Pete Maravich, and that would also be in there as well. "Try separating myth from the legend next time ya post somethin on Pistol. Poseur" (larrey, march 2014). I think this applies to you.

    This guy is one of the greatest, most inspirational players ever. And to think that he was doing this with a heart condition where he had no left coronary artery (only his right artery) makes it all the more extraordinary. The more one plays basketball, the more one would realize how incredible this guy is. He deserves all the accolades and more.

    I'm telling you, had the ABA allowed Dr J to be with the hawks (Or if Philly made a trade for Maravich), Erving and Maravich would have been one of the "Greatest Duo's" that ever played the game.

    The man was such a pure shooter, he very rarely hits rim regardless of where the shot is from or how tough the D is. There has never been another player with his combination of shooting accuracy, ball control skills and showmanship. There have been several with two of the three but no one with all three...I know you're at peace, Pete.

    "He was and is my idol," said Phoenix Suns coach Mike D'Antoni, "even though he was only two years older than me." "He was just so far ahead of the game with his ball handling and creativity." "To see him...could you truly realize what he could do and how important he was to the game."

I saw him play and have cited the greatest basketball players, coaches, sport writers, and the fact that he was voted one of the 50 greatest to ever play as proof that he was a great player. And Cousy declared In the book "I remember Pete Maravich" that if Pete was ever allowed to play the point guard position because he had players to compliment him he would have been the best ever at that position. He stated that in terms of creativity only Pete was in the same class as him. Pete's passing abilities and ability to create his won shot were unique at that position.

    The shorter college 3 point line that exists today would have added 7-11 more points every game to Maravich's 44 pt. average. The generous assist system now used in the NBA would have added 6 more assists per game to his assist average. Greatest passer I have ever seen and I'm 62 years old watching the NBA for 45++ years.

    That's quite all right(the typos that is). Minor point but actually, Pete scored 53 against a St. John's team that was at the time ranked in the top 20. And the 40 were scored in the last 15 min. Lou said that it was the most electrifying 15 min of Basketball he had ever seen. I agree, Pistol's skills were inimitable.

  • @shigsho
    @shigsho 17 років тому

    He was guarded by three guys half the time. The misses include shots he took when he was fouled and in the "old" NBA he got hammered. He was a great shooter. He only took 15 shots with the 3 point rule but I believe he made 8 or 9. Pete was lights out.

    The toughest shots he made are the high scoops off the glass as seen in 3:47. That takes a great amount of finesse, Gervin and Erving were the only other ones who could do them quite like that.

    Remember fellows, the NBA highlights of Pete are taken from a very limited selection of films that are available. I have read articles in which the writers state that "He did things that could not even be filmed". Hot Rod Hundley said he had a certain pass that he threw at full speed that was so deceptive that you saw where it wound up but not how it got there. And LedZEP you only think you can do "most" of what Pete did.
