I'm agnostic, although I think Jesus likely did exist, and I loved this movie. I especially loved the ending when they showed contemporary people vacationing where Jesus was and the environment hadn't changed.

Rodrigo Garcia did a good job on this movie, I liked it a lot. Yes of course it is not a true representation of Jesus according to the Bible all the way, I mean, how many movies have been? However he said he was curious "what kind of their Jesus they could find in it (the film), and that to me is an extremely interesting question. Any true believer will understand Garcia means, what part of Jesus do we see in this movie in our own experience.
I definitely see the realistic human struggles against the physical elements, and the emotional elements too. The suffering put in motion picture is incredibly moving and humbling. I know the pain and the suffering Jesus lived out because of what I have read, but seeing it is entirely different. Another thing is the fact that Jesus took the time to stay in this family's life and care about "all the little things" in their family. The devil incessantly mocked God to jesus about caring about all the tiny things in creation yet Jesus cares about the desires and relationships of this family, about the hearts. Jesus's care is visualized once again and that is spectacular to see and not just feel. The Jesus I know was portrayed in this film as the caring Jesus that I know about. As well as the Jesus who understands the suffering of being a man. He was tempted to have power, tempted surely about women and sex, and tempted to not suffer; to avoid it. Jesus submerged himself in suffering, he did not walk away from it. That is what separates him truly as a deity from other gods.
Awesome movie overall, Amazing Job Ewan and Tye Sheridan.

As a Christian.... albeit a pretty poor excuse for one, I loved the movie....it captured Jesus the man, with doubts and fear....and a genius idea to have the devil represented as a mirror image (whoops, hope that's not a spoiler?).... I think it just made Him more real to me, and to be honest, who better to portray Him than the beautiful Ewan McGregor??...🙏🙏🙏... wonderful performances by all concerned. Thank you X

I went into the film with that exact same mindset, but after seeing it i had a much deeper understanding of what they were trying to do. its not that god is not giving Jesus a response, its just not the response Jesus was expecting. and i think that speaks volumes, because as Christians we experience that every single day

I wonder how many of us Christians would not be better off spending forty days in the wilderness, metaphorically, before setting out on our own ministries? No, not a very good representation of what really took place but, good grief! Who COULD portray that? Made me think. Good effort.

Immediately preceding Jesus being led into the wilderness by the Holy Spirit we learn about John the Baptist baptizing Jesus.
Luke 3:16 - 18, 21 - 22John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire: 17 Whose fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly purge his floor, and will gather the wheat into his garner; but the chaff he will burn with fire unquenchable. 18 And many other things in his exhortation preached he unto the people. 21 Now when all the people were baptized, it came to pass, that Jesus also being baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened, 22 And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased.
Jesus baptism immediately precedes his being led into the Wilderness.
Notice: “…that Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven…Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased.”
Hence, Jesus is in fellowship with the Father and the Holy
Spirit…No sense of alienation or estrangement.
The Apostle Paul reveals something very important which is found in the letter to the Philippians.
Philippians 2:5-11 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: 8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: 10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; 11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Jesus - second person of the Trinity - equal to God the Father - chose to be a servant. Hence, he put on flesh and was perfect in his obedience to the Father. Adam had been given dominion but he chose to live autonomously. When Adam chose to disobey God - he experienced alienation from God
Genesis 3: 8- 12 And they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God amongst the trees of the garden. 9 And the Lord God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou? 10 And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself. 11 And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat? 12 And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat.
Notice Jesus is “full of the Holy Ghost [third member of the Godhead] when the Holy Spirit leads him into the wilderness.
Luke 4:1,13 -15 And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, 13 And when the devil had ended all the temptation, he departed from him for a season.
["...Jesus filled full of the Holy Ghost...."] No alienation and estrangement!
[Jesus didn’t yield to Satan’s temptation in the wilderness. As the Israelites were led through the wilderness for 40 years by Moses; Jesus experienced 40 days in the wilderness where he was praying, fasting, and tempted by the Adversary.]
If Jesus had yielded in obedience to the Adversary; he would have experienced estrangement and alienation as Adam did.
Hence Luke records:14 And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and there went out a fame of him through all the region
round about. 15 And he taught in their synagogues, being glorified of all.
Consequently, Jesus was successful in the purpose for which he was led into the wilderness!
Only once in Jesus life did he experience alienation and estrangement from his Father which occurred while on the cross.
Matthew 27:38 - 46 Then were there two thieves crucified with him, one on the right hand, and another on the left. 39 And they that passed by reviled him, wagging their heads, 40 And saying, Thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days, save thyself. If thou be the Son of God, come down from the cross. 41 Likewise also the chief priests mocking him, with the scribes and elders, said, 42 He saved others; himself he cannot save. If he be the King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe him. 43 He trusted in God; let him deliver him now, if he will have him: for he said, I am the Son of God. 44 The thieves also, which were crucified with him, cast the same in his teeth. 45 Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour. 46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?

They're equating Satan to Jesus. They're saying essentially Satan is just the unloved and unwanted son of God, and Jesus is the wanted but conflicted son of God. No Jesus never wavered, he fufilled the scripture, and conquered all evil.Satan is the father of all lies, and is nothing and could never be anything close to Jesus.
This movie seems more "gnostic" and occultic in its wisdom (false wisdom) than actually Christian. This was made by an atheist, acted by an atheist, and tried to "humanize" Jesus. He was not human he was God made into the flesh. The fact they even make Satan to look like Jesus is complete blasphemy. They make Jesus seem crazy, paranoid, out of control, lowly, just another being as opposed to the king of all kings, lord of all lords, the perfect lamb of God, redeemer of men. Movies made in Hollywood about Christianity, by atheist will see God from a worldly perspective, not a deserning Christian one.
*There is a way which seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death.
    (Proverbs 14:12)
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.(John 3:16)
“I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

All do respect but this was a terrible movie in my opinion.he didn't portray Jesus at all like in the bible.instead he portrayed Jesus on how Hollywood views him. Jesus was not a silent person like in this movie nor did he act like a man who was unsure of himself like how they did him in this movie. A good movie would be passion of the Christ. That was a more accurate version of how Jesus was when he walked the earth.even in his last days before his death Jesus still prayed to his heavenly father and believed in what his purpose was for mankind.
