Hi Dan, you solved the main problem of all the bush boxes. They all need a higher potstand on top. Very well done! Greetings from Germany and please stay healthy, atb Jürgen.
Nice one Dan. Anything that encourages a bit more air flow will reduce the smoke. After all smoke is unburnt fuel. I play with steam engines and when we’re on the road we always try to keep smoke to a minimum. So, increasing or decreasing the draft really helps with this. It’s a great mod. All the best. Paul.
I do think it will help abit but the most important thing with the bush box mate is defo finding dry wood u answered ur own question bro!!! Dry wood is the key for defo!!keep at it fella👍🏻
Finally got my lixada folding wood stove, it's slightly different than yours it did not come with tent pegs but instead has a flop down fire grate, with two catches on each side on the inside, I can follow your other mods, the grill and ash pan modifications need to be done, I like it, very nice bit of gear.
New subscriber and new to the Bushbox line, I just bought the LF. Presently I’m away from my kit and cannot test it but I know that the trivets have notches on both sides. One side’s notches are shallower than the other side’s, meaning if I use those notches the trivets sit up about .5 cm higher and should offer improved air flow. It will be a week before I get a chance to test it.
When you make your permanent set you should make the overhang to each end slightly longer to help steady the larger diameter pan. Keep the ideas coming because most things can be improved with a different person looking at the function with a new set of eyes.
You are correct that the elevation needs to be higher above the stove to limit smoke. I like your idea very much. However here is an alternative idea. Buy a second set of trivets and put those on top of the other trivets that come with the stove. This will give you the higher elevation above the stove, and the better venting, but perhaps more stability than your very clever cross design.
Great video lad 👍 Your video certainly shows by increasing the height of supports the pan sits on above stove, it appears to decrease the amount of smoke coming from wood within the Bushbox xl itself. Would like to see it tested again using wet wood. Keep yourself and your family safe. All the best. 👍
another cracking vid mate, looks like you have sorted the bushbox smoke, I love black pudding too, keep at it, helps to keep us all sane lol, all the best.
As much as you do, I correct and perfect... Notes for your stove: - the flame is not under control (large heat losses, unnecessary soiling of the pots, danger), - a hole for inserting sticks lower (4 cm from the bottom), - closed hole for inserting wood - temporarily attached sheet metal, - a stand for a pot even higher (ti / inox not al), - (option) -> a stand for a pot as a square (perforated sheet), - (option) -> a stand for a pot - folded, tall, narrowing square with a slot at the top and bottom, made of sheet metal without perforation. Best regards.
I think I am correct in thinking that this time last year you hadn,t even tried black pudding. Now, it seems, you can,t imagine life without it. If so, good for you!
Well Dan it definitely looks like it burns better and definitely less smoke your loving the black pudding now have you tried haggis it's lush stay safe atvb Jimmy 😎😎👍👍
I do not know about that black pudding. When you finally said what it was it sounds disgusting. I am glad you enjoy it. I did not know just raising the pan would cut down on smoke. Brilliant. Thanks for sharing. Stay safe
What a fantastic and ingenious concept Dan. As a new subscriber to your channel I will definitely use this great tip. Thanks for sharing Dan. Keep safe and I look forward to viewing many more of your videos.
Looks like a good fixs if it cuts smoke down with damp wood I would be interested in you possibly engineering me a set if you was thinking of selling them !
Why not buy an additional set of trivets (they only cost 9,90 €) and place all four of them on the bushbox xl stacked crosswise in two levels? This would also rise the pot to a higher level, reduce smoke and it would be more stable since the trivets touch the pan more on the outside of the bottom. Your pan is not stable, becaus you have this one cross in the center of the bottom. Greetings from Germany.
Can you please tell us what the mesh you used is called, so we can have a bash at making the same mod? And where we can get it? And maybe how it was done?
As someone who has only just ordered his first BushBox but who owns Fireboxes it seems to me that you have created a chimney. That is, without the higher stands putting your pan on is like damping down a chimney. Fireboxes have a chimney flap on one side and a lower wall on the other. Wood that hasn't properly caught will smoke too when pampered.
@@englishwoodsman No brother it works because it remedies a design flaw in the stove. When you put the pan down top of the stove without your mod what room is there for the hot gases to escape and the fire to breath? Remember Coal and Charcoal breath from below but wood breaths from above. I think you are absolutely on the money. BTW just started doing youtube vids myself if your interested.
G'day Dan Would you mind telling me what you have made the pot supports out of. Girl question i know haha but I would like to try and modify my cheap twig stove too Ps really enjoying your firebox cooking and gadget makeovers.
Can anyone remember red black pudding.like black pudding now but as a kid no way.one was red one was black thats all you seem to get now.whats the differance?
Bushbox LF has the same problem. It seems the Kelly kettle pot stand/stand (88 gram) fits in the grill plate holes of the LF, raising a pot on the outer prongs 6.5 cm above the Bushbox socialism.nl/misc/BushBoxLF_KellyKettlyStand.JPG (not tried yet).
Your vids have been keeping me sane, who ever got you blocked I’ll slap them personally. Free of charge keep what your doing
Great adjustment 👍
I'm hungry now. Good video 👍.

Agree, all fires produce smoke but more so with damp/ wet fuel.
Great video . Thanks for sharing
It's a nice box and easy to Lite need to look in to it
Another great Video mate giving people some great adaptation ideas or projects to do during lockdown. Thanks mate
Good video. The original full size Emberlit has the same problem, Mark Young has a video on fixing it, he basically had the same solution as you do.
nicely done, sir.
That's excellent Dan, be sure to get the patent mark on that bud. Thumbs up from me 👍

Good work dan mate, I know what you mean about the smoke from them... well done mate,
Ash
Nice work there mate...good idea!!!
Good idea mate nice one 👍🏻👍🏻maybe make the cross pieces a little longer to support the frying pan but cracking idea still 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
That’s another great idea 💡
looks like the holes in your new pot supports also improves air flow at the top under the pan
love the mod fella. performs perfectly. good job :)
Hi mate thankyou for watching

The Dan Firebox should be on the market next year then? Bombproof made for woodsmen by a woodsman
You and your black pudding dan hahaha
Thats a good addition you made there mate wicked.
Nice my friend-Grate job. Tell me, what does black pudding taste like? Here in South Africa we can not find it. Looks very nice?
Sometimes called in other countries blood pudding or blood sausage as that is its main ingredient.

@@fadingmargins mate with my mob I have seen a massive improvement with no smoke
Where do you get the metal grate to make them with? I’d like an XL grill plate and this looks perfect to make it out of :)
How do you carry all of that heavy equipment to your site? Are you able to park close by? Do you use a wagon?
Does anybody know what material this is so I can order some? Haven’t got a clue what to look for but would love to learn :)
👍🏻
You should even give it more height. It still smokes a little bit.
G'day Dan
Would you mind telling me what you have made the pot supports out of. Girl question i know haha but I would like to try and modify my cheap twig stove too
Ps really enjoying your firebox cooking and gadget makeovers.

Subtitles don't work well for my channel.
