For me whether you found out later in life or you instinctually knew, whichever gender makes me hard/horny is something that is hard wired into me, no matter if I knew the term gay or have been exposed to gay culture prior to coming out. I knew I was different since I was a kid but I just didn't know the word for it. That doesn't mean that I wasn't born gay or that I just discovered gay culture and that transformed me into a gay person.

Exactly. Gender is a social construct, sexuality is not. Long before the modern idea of gender there were still people who loved exclusively the members of the same sex. They also exist (always existed and always will) independently across different cultures with different ideas about gender.

I once envisioned myself as a mentor who lived through modern gay history. Younger people have no interest in anything I have to offer. Stonewall? Fire Island? AIDS? Gay Culture. Better Midler. LOL. Barbara Streisand? They aren't curious about anything that occurred the day before they were born. They hardly know much about the day they're in. Much of our "collective" knowledge ends with me. These kids will never find out who "Mary" is, or Miss Thing. There is no gay humor left because the children have no gay humor. Disco would have never flourished with these children. They don't leave their bedrooms. "If you cannot remember history, you are doomed to repeat it."

This is good, but could be better if participants JUST CHOSE A SIDE!! and if they offer too much backstory, it's sound like they are trying hard to justify their stance, which makes it seem like they really don't beleive their stance. Choose a side, this has been my experience, and that's that.

I know! I was raised Catholic and I knew I was gay since I was really young. I always loved god and the church I thought it was so beautiful… I remember telling my priest that I’m gay and I’m thankful to this day that he accepted me into the church and told me to continue to be a amazing person and just pray every night before bed. I’m definitely one of the few gay people who really love god.

Just half way in but I think I had enough.
At the born gay part; while it is very obvious to me they lack good sexual education, probably not just that. Knowing what I know about US educations.
What I take most issue with is when the 30 y/o is talking about fluidity more or less and the spectrum aspect like this is "new" only the past 10 years or so we spoke about that. And that is not true.... Kinsey scale is a spectrum, that is older than 10 years. Trans-ness is not new, the gender spectrum theory is also not just 10 years old.
I am Dutch, from the Netherlands, born 1980 thus I am 13 years older than the oldest gay in that group, and some reactions are just head scratchers to me. I understand my culture is very different from the US culture... Amsterdam is known for the wallen, red-light district and prostitution - which is legal, sex work is legal, drugs like cannabis all my life there were shops you could buy it legally in small amounts. Hell we are even the first country in the modern age that had legalized same sex marriages. We are not a Puritan culture.
It is like watching Americans answer basic knowledge questions and they can't answer "correct", like they live in a semi own reality disconnected from the rest of the Western democratic worlds.
Like the Hawaii raised person stating it was very heteronormative how he was raised, but this not being a reason why he had a girlfriend however he always was attracted to men. Bless him he is still young.
Ever since 9/11 I have been disillusioned by the USA, and since 2016 - it took a very deep nose dive.
With facts that 54% of Americans have a literacy level below 6th grade, is very telling.
It makes me wonder why we the social media/globe is still paying that much attention to the USA cause they lost it a little.

im pansexual, and i definitely had to learn to separate god and religion. When i was learning and discovering my sexuality and i was very lost , I was at one of the darkest time of my life , finding out i was getting cheated on after wasting time w this man for three years, also mourning my dog of 17 years, and being in rehab, i completely gave up on pray and begging for god to give me a break because i was close to following through with my S* Ideations. I gave up because i realized that i was gay and there had to be a reason why those who claim to be very close to “god” say we go straight to hell. but thats only because they believe that gay relationships are led by Lust and the Devil. We all should advocate that even homosexuals CAN have their own communication with god and don’t have to label themselves. Labeling yourself shoves you in a box and makes others have a perspective that you follow all the “rules” in the religion. i can keep going on but theres soo much to say and point out. Im still lost but im finding time to communicate with whoever this higher power is. You can still have spiritual connection without labeling your religion.

Walking down the street holding hands, I don’t feel comfortable, my nearest major city had a very recent hate crime incident *in the gay district* a group of straight guys called a gay couple over to their car after they spotted them walking down the street holding hands and glassed one of them in the face and beat them.
They were horrifically disfigured, in a place that was supposed to be a safe space for all of us.
The group was convicted with committing a hate crime.
I admire couples that have the guts to do it but I personally couldn’t.

I am an older gay man who has lived all of my life in the NYC and SF,CA areas. My experience is drastically different than the great majority of gay men who live in areas other than the top urban hubs in the US. I also have to say that I really relate to so much that the guy in the printed shirt said! I too have usually felt the most represented by Dykes on Bikes (as well as the sober, Faerie, and poz contingents) at Pride! Thank you for this content, Brian! Look forward to more in the future!

Sure asking for help and picking them up in a bad spot is great, but when they already felt alone in the community because of people within their own community, I would think that is a tad flawed. The one who was on agree side basically seems to have a bubble that he can go back into at anytime with no problem. As for the ones who changed their answers again still a bubble.
