Had to get out of the house and into nature! This is my second hike up Flinders Peak so I decided to try a different route.
I really like Flinders Peak - there aren't any other tall mountains in the area so you get really expansive views in every direction - from Brisbane and the islands in the North/East to Cunninghams's Gap in the Southwest and Mount Maroon & Mount Barney in the South.
The summit track is heaps of fun but I prefer this less popular and longer route to the top, which then follows the 'normal' trail back down to the carpark.
Hope you enjoy the video - please subscribe if you do!

Hi Ben, the trail you took around the back is called the Slider Track, during logging of the peak, it was used to bring the cut logs down. Where the slider track joins the main trail, there is a diversion track you can take (to the left of the descent track) - it is a bit of a scramble, but leads to the Secret Cave, popular with rock climbers. It is spectacular to visit. Also, there is a proper South Ridge for Flinders Peak - it is a fair bit further on from where you ascended. There is still a faded marker pointing up that ridge at the base. It can also be ascended, and there is a few fantastic scrambles on the way up. Before massive bushfires decades ago, it used to be a common ascent route, but after the bushfires, the vegetation that grew back was thick and weedy. I ascended it though after the 2019 bushfire season, and it was all burnt out and easy to ascend, though I came up looking like a coal miner! It is probably all overgrown again right now. It joins the track just metres from the helipad.

Hey Darren, thanks for the info that's really interesting. I'll have to try the cave some time. The south ridge sounds great too but I'm not sure I like the sound of 'thick and weedy', especially after all the rain we've had recently!
