This is the main reason I am getting one of these. Not the only…. But definitely one of the top. When I saw this I thought… I can do that without the Trace. Well…. To those others that thought the same thing…. I’ll tell you that it did not turn out quite like I thought it would.
I have a BCTW CT-6 where the foam that came with the box for the tool has rotted. Trace is the perfect tool to simplify making replacement foam. Signed-up as super early bird. Can’t wait for October!
Some folks have mentioned tiling - technically this is not a supported workflow within the Trace App. We definitely understand that there are projects that require a larger output, and internally, we’ve had some success tiling the Frame and using indexing markers on the sketch itself.
Trace works best with any dark pen or marker or pencil on light paper. We hand-selected the pen included with Trace (because we think it’s great!) but feel free to also use what you have on hand. As long as there is sufficient contrast between the pen and the paper, Trace will capture your image. In terms of capturing objects on a background, it's not the recommended use of Trace - but we encourage users to play around with it!
Backed the campaign as soon as I heard about Trace! Can't wait.
Awesome! Thanks for the support.
Hello, really nice idea! an improvement should be to use shaper tape to make a bigger frame without size limitation!
Thanks for the feedback!

Reverse engineering parts just got more efficient- Pre ordered!

The video selects the second largest spanner - how would you do the largest if it exceeds trace frame?

Why is there a size limit with trace if it used the same principle as shaper tape? Seems like an imposed limit so you can sell a tray.
The dots are similar, but ultimately different than Shaper Tape. We'll pass along your feedback to the team!
The frame could have been made bigger, or have options to make it expandable.
At this time, we only have one size of Trace Frame available, but we’d love to hear more about the use case you have in mind!
Would it also work if you just put a light colored tool on a dark background (for contrast) or is drawing the shape a must?

Not totally necessary, but the dimensionality of the tool might affect the captured shape so tracing it out will get you a more accurate result.
Why not cut with the Origin?
You can use many different CNC or cutting tools with Trace, including Origin!
Jokes on you, im still gonna lose the 10mm
🤣
I regret buying this.
If you're having any issues with your Trace unit reach out to support@shapertools.com
Could you do a short/video on your positives, negatives?
