- In this video I go over how to setup the GOG version of Arcanum to run on a Windows 10 machine. I cover installing the Unofficial Arcanum Patch, high quality townmaps, high quality music, and high resolution patch. I also cover fixing video issues by setting shortcut options and using a fixed Direct Draw DLL.

Trying out the game for the first time, played it for around 9 hours but I just couldn't stand the stutter above all else. This polishes absolutely everything, you're a godsend.

Easy to follow tutorial! Well done! I had a problem with the copy and paste things. I did it on my shortcut for the game on my desktop but when i launched it didn't seem to work. Then i went to my GOG arcanum folder and edited the launcher there instead. Then i tried to launch the game from GOG application and still it didn't work. But then i figured out that i need to start the game by using the launcher directly in the install folder and it works! Thanks for the tutorial anyway it helped me in the right direction :D

Incase anyone is wondering, this patch works on the original disk version of the game (which I've got), I did have to download a previous patch to the one that comes with trebusze link but it's working fine. No lag and as a bonus, I can now play without the damn disk in!!! Wooohooooo!!! :D
Edit: I take it back about the lag....it's ok for a while, but the lag has come back....doh!!!
Excellent work on this guide. With a little tweaking I was able to make it work on Windows 8.1 as well. Now the real question is weather or not to to a battle mage play-through or a grenade throwing lunatic making seemingly endless molotovs.

I had some issues with IE ddraw. It simply didn't start if i used this one. I managed to start it running compatibility with windows 7.
I have issues when exiting the game. It locks. To avoid resetting my pc i need to change user, re enter with my user then i can kill the game (with task manager set on foregroud, otherwise it's covered by Arcanum).
Funny thing, after starting it once i can run it without compatibility mode, and it's better since when i change user and revert back the game crashes and saves to kill it with task manager. Using other compatibility modes just changes that i need to kill it manually...
Other than that it seems to work fine, so i'm more than ok with that, but i just started it.

Whenever I replace the draw.dll from the one in the Zip file it wont launch my game even after following your steps. Everything else works fine except when exploring the map its a bit laggy but not as much as the original.

I've had issues with it, recently got it on steam. Did everything in this video, the only difference is that those commands are added to another file instead of the shortcut. It seems to crash everything I get to the first town after 10 minutes of playing. First after scrolling too far and another when I was moving the character. Would you have any idea why? Would these mods be possibly affecting the game? Such a shame too because it is a good game. I redid the mod installation running as administrator and that seems to have fixed it I hope.
I'm using the High Res patch, but man is the HUD small. Although it actually increases to match the resolution, it doesn't increase enough. I don't know if I'm looking at the overworld map right, but it just shows the overworld in full and I can't pinpoint things, they seems too close together, no way to zoom in where I want. I was trying to see where on the map was a quest you take right at the beginning, in a cave where there's the spirit of a dead guy, but the place where it is in the map is just beside where I am it seems, and it's impossible to make it out on the overworld map.

Those three DLL's made it so my game wouldn't launch for GOG. couldn't use em.
After troubleshooting I realized you have to unzip the file first before copying them over into your arcanum folder. However now the game is even more choppier than ever. So it did the opposite of what it was meant to do.
so i tried doing 1024x768 and i have black bars on the side of the screen? but 1280х720 works fine although i think the res is higher in game than that.. your 1024 in the vid looks smaller!

When the game is finished the scenes that talk about what becomes of Arcanum is skipped. Do you know how to fix this? I love seeing what comes about after my meddling.

what to do when my ddraw.dll file even if renamed doesnt start the game and even if replaced with the one shown in the video and even named the same doesnt start the game?
edit: After setting the highres to 1600 900 it started the game but it was now kinda fucked basically it still seemed as if the game was 800x600 but there was now extra black space all around it as if squished its hard to say it
Still have a disk of this amazing game aswell. Runs quite fine on win 10, but the game bugs out whenever I alt-tab. Everything UI wise just shifts to the left and the whole menu takes up 1/4 of the screen then, but the buttons are still in its actual place.

Everytime i try to solve the game lagging by adding the DDRAWFIX, the game closes after the "Loading Arcanum" at the start. Anyone knows a viable solution to this?

Also what the hell is wrong with custom portraits in this game? When i finally get the portraits to work and started the game i decided i wanted to edit the portrait in GIMP a little (it was already self-made so where's the prblem, right?), when i saved it i got just a black picture instead. I modified portraits i already used in game in BG and NWN all the time and everything went fine but this game is a real bitch about everything :D
