I'm writing this from my hotel room in Nyaung Shwe, where I'm sitting out this plandemic. Myanmar is a beautiful country, with proud, honest and humble people. It's been a pleasure to stay here, maybe the safest place in the world right now. Spent a week in Yangon too; Shwendagon pagoda is the most beautiful place I have ever seen. Nothing but praise for Myanmar.
A Canadian.
Thank u so much 💝😍 🇨🇦🇨🇦
Might be the safest place in the world for you but not for me. I was born in Burma left when I was two years old. Spent 12 years at the Thailand refugee camp. Now I call Australia home. Australia is the safest place in the world for me.
Minglabar Tsusiat Jack... Yes indeed. I concur wt u. Been to Burma twice. Looking forward to visiting Burma again nx yr. Shwedagon Pagoda is beautiful,no doubt abt it...
Might be a good and safe place if people don't eat betel nut and spit every where, if don't throw plastic every where, if civil war end.
But thank you.
Actually Naung Swe is really a nice place.
Btw... Where is Nyaung Shwe
So,those people,83 years ago!wondeful documentary ever.Great n beautiful country in south east asia. It's people honest, kind hearted n welcome foregin tourist with warm heart.Country now under fast development n prosperity.Wish Myanmar(burma)all the best for the future endevour.Long live "Myanmar".From new zealand🤗
😂😂😂 this aged nicely. Exactly opposite of the things you mentioned is now in Burma.
My great grand father in low was there in 1930s for work, and after so many years in 2015 and present 2019 his great grand child (my hubby) is there for work, history repeat feeling happy , I was so curious to know about history ,this video fulfill my curiosity....thank u so much for wonderful video...very beautiful place..
Good to see footage of Rangoon where my late father was born and grew up till the 2nd world war. He joined the Burma Auxiliary Force and penetrated deep into enemy territory ( Japanese army). My father was Indian but could speak Burmese. I am visiting Myanmar in February next year to see for myself this beautiful country.
you will definitely feel that you were back to those time if you join the walking tour provide by Yangon Heritage trust ...NGO... organized by Dr. Thant Myint U .......( grand son of U Thant former UN Secretary General ).really worth it ....
Ranjit Tyagi I would not entirely agree that Yangon is no longer home to Indians. To this day, the presence of the Indians are easily recognisable. Certain elements revealed that the locals and Indians mingled to become the present civilians in Yangon as the people in Yangon carried on the darker skin (dark brownish) skin pigments more so than the rest of the country. The food in the Yangon also resembled much of Indian cuisine compared to the various states in Myanmar. As someone presently residing in Mandalay, I would counter the fact that much of Indian heritage remain to this very day
@@oaksoeaung2062 What you say is true, not just Myanmar I think the precolonial Indian influence right across SE Asia is still very evident. Culturally all of SE Asia is essentially a cultural continuum between India and China. Most Indians have assimilated into the native cultures and do not stand out as foreign.
However colonial settlement of Indians notably the Rohingya have failed to assimilate because of support from Ottoman and Indian muslims.
Curiously enough Indian states of Nagaland and Mizoram are culturally less Indian than most other places in SE Asia with the exception of Phillipines.
My grandma and grandpa lived in Rangoon at this time.
Lot of Rohinga living all over the world please tell Your Government to bring back your country! Rohinga Live Matter !
I am living in Rangoon now
Mine too
Same My grand ma live this era I think 100years ago?
Yea Same
I love your work; the editing, the soundtrack, and all the detailed effort you put into your video! Thank you for posting these incredible gems, Michael!
Thank you for sharing invaluable golden memories of my motherland Burma. I can name a few places from your video.....Rangoon Univeristy, Inya Lake, Scott Market, Traditional rattan ball play and Shwedagon Pagoda. Again thank you for your wonderful video and Merry Christmas Michael.
It should be Kandawkyi Lake near Shwedagon Pagoda.
Apichai Jiam There are two lakes, Inya lake and kandawgyi lake which is closer to shwedagon pagoda
Why did you preferred to call your country Burma instead of Myanmar? Isn't this name change superfluous? So many people might be relating themselves to Burma. It's such beautiful and developed city may be better than Calcutta, Bombay and Singapore.
Recently returned from Myanmar, loved Hsipaw area especially. Big fan of your wonderful films and uploads Michael, with grateful thanks for all your efforts and contributions sir
I love Yangon and mare Myanmar love from India Manipur
Think you
Great. Now I am living in yangon

I actually feel more respect for Michael Rogge, after watching this video, it was the best documentary on our home town . I’m really appreciated it .
Thanks for your praise !
You are very welcome
Thank you so much for your records.
Was there from 1954 to 1963, from the age of 6. Loved the country. Studied in Seventh Day Adventist School, St. John's and I.E.S. Khalsa High School. Back to India in 1936. Went back to visit in 2014. Vast difference.
I LOVE BURMA
Its my grandparents n parents who were born n brought up
I visited 2018
Thank U very much,I'm from Myanmar....
Its feels sad to think that most of them are dead now. Who were once so lively. Really photographs capture moments in time.
Fantastic!. Rangoon was primarily Indian, some Chinese and a few Burmese, just as I was told by my elders. Only exceptionally fortunate Burmese made to Rangoon University or Darjeeling. I saw real Burma only at the country side .I have been away since1970. Something about that place, my heart never left Burma.Thank You!.
Yes. It was a colonial outposts where british brought men from other colonies to settle and develop. Cantonese and indians were there.
After 1960s era riots, most left and now burma is what we all know.
Thank you very much and Happy new year.
Thanks Michael. Amazing footage!
The burmese clothings are classical. Nowadays its a mess.
Excuse me-
I happen to like how we’re experimenting with out fashion. But we have our own opinions on things to I respect you
fruity melonade i guess I am guy with taste of the classical era. Maybe I am just old fashioned but its my view.
Linn Htet maw I get it. I’m a girl who’s all about dazzle dazzle mixed with minimal. Like Seoul fashion or Japanese Fashion. And brands like Channel, Gucci and UNIQLO. Not Forever 21 though, I have never trusted it. But I did wear it a lot as a kid. My mum was a huge fan so she brought a lot for me. Even though u like Razzle Dazzle, I do miss the classic look sometimes. But most of the times, they look so uneven and kinda... just not clear to my eyes. I love our traditional clothes though, especially the ones from the Kaungboaung(can’t spell) and Bagan Dynasties. And the ones from the 50s.
But even though I love all of these and yearn to wear them, I always end up wearing Harley Davidson, and or, a plain t-shirt I Fleur at the market and some adidas shorts and crocs. I’m fashionable but not fashionable.
fruity melonade i like how the girls are wearing alot more fashionably. Maybe a little korean influenced but hey they looking good...yes but When you go to like new york, people dont wear hats and ties with suites much like in the classical era either. So tshirts have become the new norm???. I guess its kinda like a global shift...designers like andy warhole and keith herring might have had a hand in these kinda revolutions. I dont know just whats in my head.
@@linnhmaw am i in a mess for wearing a t shirt/ hoodie with jeans?

This was delightful! The architecture was so good most of these buildings are still there, especially the Strand Hotel.
Most of them are in total disrepair.
@@MTMF.london Disagree, the infrastructure is still there, with investment possibly some could be renovated.
@@Kenjikah Of course they could be renovated but they need to be gutted out first, from top to bottom. Everything needs to be re-fitted, including electrical lines, plumbing, floor joists, roofing - it would be more economical to build from scratch.
Awesome! Deeply thank you. I love to see it.
thank UNCLE MICHAEL❤
It's a precious movie clip.. great job.. Sir..

I always like to watch those days living videos...very2 stimulated ....really feel want to go back to that era...😪😪😪
Rangoon where I was born and raised up, & lived up to almost 29 years (lived in 3 era, parliament democracy era, revolutionary council era and socialist era) . Now, I'm living oversea (left Burma in 1989) and no more Burmese citizen. When I came back 1st time ( 16 year later after I left) Burma changed to back ward. This very beginning of year, I visited again and saw Burma changed to more worse. Burma estrange to me now. What a pity!
