This is a really great breakdown of the guitars that were in Randy's arsenal. I was fortunate enough to be a student of his for about 3 years up until he left to work with Ozzy. He and I often spoke about gear, as I was and am to this day completely gear obsessed. He loved that Les Paul as it played incredibly well and sounded fantastic with his seemingly one of a kind MXR Distortion plus.. The Les Paul was like a log, very heavy and bulky. If memory serves, most of the yellowing also came from the fact that he smoked non stop and was cooped up in a tiny teaching studio all week. I was just starting to collect guitars at the time and when I would bring something in with a Floyd Rose or even a Bigsby on it, he would want to trade and he would play that for the lesson and I would play the Les Paul. He often lamented the fact that the Les Paul didn't have a tremolo on it and to install one would ruin the guitar, if it would work at all. I feel like that was the reason for the shift to the others that he played with Ozzy. He really wanted that ability to manipulate notes and the Paul just couldn't do it. Anyway, sorry for rambling on. Randy was an amazing teacher and a funny, sarcastic, brilliant virtuoso. I still think about the guy every time I pick up a guitar, which is pretty much every day. Thanks again for the great video, brother.

Excellent overall presentation, Ramon! I attended Randy's Greensburg guitar seminar in Feb. '82, & now regret not asking him where he got his white/blonde LP. He was very casual allowing us kids to hold & play it (though I respectfully declined).

@@Dave_Wight_The_Rock_Oracle Yes, have heard it & have an archive of 18 photos from that day (1 of which shows me) plus 3 of my own I've never posted online. I was in the 1st session sitting directly in front of him (only 3 seats in the 1st row) & when it ended, I asked for his pick (an ordinary Fender M), & asked him to hold his guitar sideways so I could see its action (gap between strings & frets). Instead, he said, "Here, you can play it yourself" because other people were lining up for autographs. In hindsight, he was asking me a favor to get the guitar out of the way; but for me, it was an overwhelming honor, & I simply felt unworthy to touch it & risk dropping it.

The guitar at 3:07 is a LP jr that was owned by the roadie for Quiet Riot Harold. Harold also owns that one brown strat that Randy is playing during time in the studio.
The picture was taken by Ron Sobol and is featured in Ron's book Randy Rhoads The Quiet Riot Years.

I remembered a couple of other guitars:
-He had a Gibson/Japanese copy acoustic 12 string. I'm pretty sure it was a copy, but it was used on some tracks. Randy used MULTIPLE chord voicings on "Revelation..." and "Goodbye..." in particular.
-'57 (?) 3 pup Gibson "Black Beauty" Les Paul. RR had recently started collecting.
I may remember others. If I get a chance I'll go through my many RR books to see what I can find.
On another note, despite what EVH said Randy never stated that he got everything from him. In fact, Randy lamented having to tap during his solo. He said that he did it because "that's what the kids want(ed) to hear." He also said (regarding his solo during the concert) that if he was really going to 'show what he could do' he would bring out a chair and acoustic guitar. It's pretty obvious where his head was musically.

FWIW: the pin stripes on the white Jackson are purple, not black. This was mentioned in a story about Mike Shannon (& ??) studying/measuring it before Jackson released the limited edition recreation.
He also had a '50s (?) Strat. It somehow got sold to Traci Guns..I THINK. It was definitely a guitarist from a California metal band.. Randy is shown recording with it during BoO/DoaMM. If my memory is accurate, Randy is pictured with it on an inner sleeve of "Tribute."
    -50s Gibson (O1??) acoustic.
    There are probably others...

The pinstripes on the concord weren't black. They are very dark blue. There was an issue of guitar world (some time around 2007 or 2008ish) where Jackson was making replicas of the concord and they went to the Rhoads to look at the original and they mentioned how they always thought the pinstripes were black but very surprisingly they realized they are a deep dark blue

The Dean Z was stolen many years back, but he still owns the LP/SG and the Strat..In the early days, Randy would borrow guitars from Harold or friends/students for backups at QR gigs as he only had the white Les Paul Custom at the time..

Liked the video, but you missed a couple of VERY important guitars:
-Martin *D-18. He used it on (among other songs) "Dee." IDK what year.
-1979 Jeronimo Pena Fernadez Concert A06 Special classical. According to Rudy Sarzo, this was the MAIN guitar that he played off stage.
*That's what I read that it was, but the pictures make the sides look like rosewood instead of mahogany. That would make it a D-28. Considering the fact that he ordered what Ozzy called a "VERY expensive" classical with rosewood b&s, it very well may be a D-28. He didn't compromise ($5,000 circa 1979 which is $22,654.80 today) on the custom order A06. Apparently, he was really dedicated to pursuing classical guitar. I imagine that he didn't SETTLE on his choice of woods; he got his dream instrument...which has rosewood b&s.

deekay2, you are wrong there. If you really listen to them you would recognize a lot of riffs, especially Quiet Riot 2 , on Blizzard.
And Credit should be given to Bob Daisley, ! Bob with all his knowledge and experience. , brought out the best of Randy . john osbourne was not and should not get credit.
      Thank you Mr. Bob Daisley

first off, you do not know that., and who cares why Randy is relevant, he wrote two masterpieces. If not for Randy , Ozzy would be in another rehab center begging back into Sabbath. Randy and Bob gave Ozzy credibility.
You know the first two Quiet Riot albums which by the way had those trademark solos, were albums he did not have the keys to the car .....Kevin dictated a lot as did the label.
What is the point of your comment to let us know how insecure you are about Randy's success and impact/ By the way when he went in Jackson HQ, no one knew who he was. But Grover says he will never forget their 12 hour conversation and how Randy is the nicest guy he ever dealt with.
Your comment is so stupid., if not for the guy who signed Ed van Halen no one would know who he is...

@@LLtigers imagine coming to a video on Randy Rhoads and saying something really that stupid. No one would know who any of these guys are if someone did not find them or sign them.
Plus the guy who should get a lot of the credit is Dana Strum he could not believe talent scouts and music execs were not getting what he was, that Randy was the best out there.
Those Quiet Riot albums were not led by Randy, the label dictated stuff and Kevin sort of ran with it, but you can clearly here the talent in the soloing.

None of my guitar friends even mention Randy Rhoads the problem is some have tried to make Rhodes out to be something he wasn't he never one time received best guitarist of the year when he was alive that was ruled by Eddie Van Halen from 1978 into the the 1990's.. Rhodes also wasn't a innovator or was his style of playing new to anyone steve howe from Played neo classical style long before Rhodes and much better at it..i could go on and on

Bitter much, are you in a jr. high click w the 'none-of-my-friends-ever-talk-about-so-n-so, they're not worthy.' Dude, music is subjective entertainment. Music isn't a competition. And the next dude comes along, "none of my friends mention Steve Howe; he's not worthy.",,,haha. There's thousands of brilliant guitarists around to inspire countless people, for many generations. Nobody's making anybody out to be anything out of the ordinary.
We all love the music, get over it

HE won best new talent and won best guitar player in U.K reader's poll. no one expected you to have knowledge based on your stupid fake gloss. time to grow up.
Actually many have suggested the reason Ed went total bag in that interview after Randy died.is because Randy was getting a lot of attention and many thought Randy was better.
Live, Randy was superior, Ed was a drunken pllayer who cheated fans. Randy was a virtuoso changing songs every night.
he was not an innovator, says something who is clearly uninformed on Randy. Many who are mature and knowledgeable know otherwise.
