Detox was actually first mentioned around 2002. I remember him talking about it right around the same time The Eminem Show dropped. It was supposed to be some sort of story album or playing out like a movie. That;s the crazy part... people waited so long lol
This album defined Dre's career above anything else. His production run in the 2000s in the wake of this album is unprecedented (with the exception of Scott Storch). It's also the best mixed/mastered album I've ever heard. I always use the instrumental version of the album as a reference for speakers/headphones.

DOC only mentioned it bc he was also working on another comeback album (i forgot what it was called) with Dre years ago that got shelved till Detox dropped. Maybe we will hear something after they release Snoop’s Missionary album in November.
