It makes me happy people still recognize just how good Brooks was. This is absolute mastery of comedy delivery and timing. It just doesn’t get better than this.
Watching this now in my 70’s I am so blessed at the memories of having been one of 8 backup singers on Dean’s show for many years in the 60s. They just don’t make them like this these days. Brilliant and one of the nicest men ever walked the planet. RIP, we all miss you so much Boss! ❤️
I'm about to turn 48 and I grew up on these legends thanks to my grandfather. The Cannonball Run movies are some of my all time favorites. Frank, Dean, Sammy, Burt Reynolds, Dom Deluise, Telly Savalas. I have such respect for all of them. But Foster Brooks was the king.
I love the part at the end where he turns just as he gets to the door and, breaking character, takes a well deserved bow. Ladies and gentlemen...a master at work.
Going down memory lane.....got off my flight to Burbank back around ‘87 or so....and foster was couple steps ahead of me.....he slowed down walking up the ramp...as I passed him...I pleasantly said to mr. brooks...I enjoy your performances...he politely acknowledged my statement and Simply continued walking in swaggering style....cool cat indeed..
The biggest laugh is The fact that Foster Brooks never Drank. I am 71 male now and still come back to this all time best of Foster and Dean Dean lost it in laughter unrehearsed as why he had to wipe his eyes from overwhelming laughter RIP both 2 of the greatest ever
An even bigger one is that you actually believe it. He drank pretty heavily until 1964, when he quit cold turkey. Someone bet him $10 he couldn’t. He said, “at the time I really needed the ten dollars.”
This is the funniest segment I've ever seen!! My dad and I used to watch these when they originally aired and we would literally be gasping for air and in tears!!! Dean's complete meltdown is absolutely hysterical and still brings me to tears.....And Foster continues to pummel him with his jokes. Unbelievable!! God bless you Foster, you brought joy to millions with your tasteful and gentle, self deprecating humor!!!!
I love this one so much. Dean never could keep it together around Foster. Pure love and respect. This is what people call the good ole days. I'd give anything to go back to the time that television was this great.
Foster and his creative brilliance are timeless. His nuances and timing are unmatched. And he never breaks character, even when those around him lose their composure. one of the absolute greats from that golden era of comedy.
If I had to guess, I feel like Dean was only given a general premise for the skit and had no idea what exactly Foster was going to say and do. His reactions and laughter are genuine and not at all rehearsed.
With all the Foster Brooks stuff I think this one was the absolute best. This one is a never-ending laugh riot no matter how many times you've seen it.
It's true. I've watched this over and over and every single time I watch it, I dissolve in gasping laughter and tears. I especially love to see Dean lose it.
A true master of his craft. It just doesn’t get any better than the genius of Foster Brooks. How the man kept a straight face when everyone around him was simply losing it, is a pure testament to his talent. Never a let down from any of his classic performances, no matter how many times you watch them. The golden era of comedy. The Dean Martin Roasts were always the cream of the crop.
I have added these to my favourite list and when I am having a bad day I play them, I'm 83 and remember the Dean Martin Roasts been on a Sunday night, Pity we don't get these great shows anymore
Im 61 and remember watching this with my father who loved the Dean Martin show....always watched it when he could. I remember watching this when it first aired ....im going to guess 1970? greg hughey Well, the Dean Martin Show actually ran for 9 years from 1965 to 1974, but you’re right, this sketch must have been from the 1970s because according to Wikipedia the 747 that Foster mentions was first put into service with Pan Am in 1970.
He was not only brilliant, he was a genuinely good soul. My mom dated Fosters' best friend, so I saw him alot. By the time this show aired, Foster had 20 years sober. Dean wasn't a big drinker either. I always thought it was so cool that you could be famous just for acting drunk! Lol. Little did I know that I was actually in the presence of comedic geniuses.
Ok so i didn't know about this clip since few days ago, but since i found it i watch it every day few times! Can't get enough! This is unbelievable talent! Classic comedy! So simple and so funny! wow! R.I.P. Mr. Brooks!

He knew his song but that was about it. A lot of his shows with Jerry was just like this... They never was sure where it was going to go. It was a good training ground for Dean and Jerry both. I think Dean was more natural at it then Jerry.
The story goes, Dean was given a read out of the script on an early Walkman type tape recorder he would listen to while playing golf so he had a fair idea of what was coming, but I doubt the tape guy sounded like Don Rickles, Jonathon Winters, Bob Newhart or Foster Brooks.
I was in a local play where I had to play a drunk. The theater critic in the paper compared me to Foster Brooks. I didn't know who he was, so I asked my mother and she turned me on to the Dean Martin shows and roasts. I've loved Foster Brooks ever since. And it's true, I laugh so hard I cry, no matter how many times I see it.
Foster was my grandad. A little-known fact was that he had such severe dyslexia he couldn’t accept the lead in a movie or anything where he was required to memorize lines. I’ve always wondered, if they’d just told him about the character and let him run with it, they’d have had a smash (pardon the pun-I am my grandfather’s kin, after all 😂) hit on their hands. It doesn’t get any funnier than Tina Fey doing Sarah Palin, and Palin herself liked it so much she hosted the show one night and even performed with Tina. My all time favorite Foster Brooks skit. I'll never tire seeing it again and again or fail to laugh. This is REAL comedy. A bucket full of 4 letter words so-called comedians spew out today is NOT comedy, yet it is allowed and not a skit like this. What is with that? The PC world has lost the plot. Also, Dean Martin was one of the most talented people ever and, though popular as he was, he was never given the accolades he deserved. He did it all - singing, comedy, serious acting, TV, movies, live performances. Very few entertainers can even come close to claiming having done it all like he did.

I've watched it a dozen times or more. Each time I shake and tears roll down my cheeks, like Dino's--with laughter. Told my Bro,thousands of miles away to watch. He's still laughing,at dawn even.
Hands down the best drunk I have ever seen in my life!!! No one can play it better!!! Even teenagers I had around me when I watched him recently, started to tell their friends about him being so awesome as a drunk...and teenagers today dont even consider watching shows from his time...

I totally agree I always admired both of them and word has it that Foster Brooks either didn't never took a drink or just very sociable you know moderate
More talent in ONE HOUR of television, than in an entire season of television today.

I laughed at this as a young kid, and now at 44 im still laughing... Dean crying makes ME cry from laughter
And you're still young.
Same young as fuck when I saw this, swore it was real, now I’m 20 I still think it’s real
Me too!
I am 68 and i cant stop laughing/crying every time i watch this clip!
I’m 27, laughing at this and will be for years. I wish I could make my friends understand why this and all the other skits are amazing.
I love how Dean is losing it and Foster stays in character 😂.
That was Dean's trademark.
And the way Foster was torturing Dean towards the end, getting right in his face. Comedy doesn't get better than this.
I totally agree I always admired both of them and word has it that Foster Brooks either didn't never took a drink or just very sociable you know moderate
