I think the food was described as stew but I guess he could have always decided to become a vegetarian later on or ate vegetable stew. What a rabbit hole. I took some Jewish studies classes in college and I remembered my teacher mentioning the beard as being an anti-Semitic law. Turns out there was a whole slew of taxes that were imposed on Jewish people or things that were a part of Jewish religious practices, such as eating specific foods (Kosher food). Growing a beard has been a part of the Jewish religion for a long time because it is commanded in the Torah (Jewish bible).
These taxes were broadly all over Europe at different points in History. No one person or place.

On a real note:
Currently laying in bed rewatching/listening and low key crying because I haven’t been able to bring myself to watch these videos since 2020, before Covid ruined everything…
At the same time, being so happy for the memories and for the brief moments I can allow myself to surrender to memories of better days and what ignorant bliss and gratitude I feel watching these two spin beautiful, simple moments of life into a blissful escape and reconnaissance brought to so many people…
I doubt many ppl will see this, but I sort of take solace in that. I find myself (3 glasses of wine deep 😅) reminiscing effortlessly about who I was and what life was like when these two beautiful people were actively sharing their incredible lives with us and I can’t help from becoming emotional when the reality of where we’re at now sets in; seemingly all at once, yet not at all; all in one swift movement.
One thing I know for certain; I have nothing but love and gratitude for not only Jenna & Julien, but every person that stumbles upon this comment from the depths of a bleeding and yearning heart that better days are yet to follow.
May you be blessed and find peace ♥️

hey jenna, though many old glass panes are indeed thicker at the bottom, they were mostly produced that way due to older, less precise glassblowing methods. when installing them, folks placed them thick side down for added stability!
“amorphous” just refers to the arrangement of molecules in the solid. crystals are the opposite of glass in that way-they have very regular lattice patterns that cause their cool crystal shapes when cut. :)

Glass actually does not flow over time, that's a very widespread but incorrect belief. The glass in old houses is thicker at the bottom as a side-effect of outdated methods of glass manufacturing.

Fun fact! That I learned when my friend was doing research with rattle snakes! They don't want to bite you. It uses up a lot of energy to bite someone and they would greatly prefer not to bite you... Unless you get that big bag of dicks snake but that's uncommon.
