The whole scene with Ashley/Pike going through the drawings with Sam/Taryon is easily the most hilarious moment in this campaign so far. Watching everyone, including Matt, double over and turn red from laughter is so damn infectious. I have rewatched the whole thing 8 times already and will probably do so many more times.
Grog has the best moments during the resurrection rituals! Hands down Also, Sam is a genius...incorporating Scanlan into his back story without mentioning him, turn a moment where the group was laughing at him to one where their jaws dropped. He's just on another level. So so good!

Me crying hard over Vax's ritual, and then dying with laughing over the Pike and Tary flashcard scene, is one of the many reasons why I love this show so much. The aggressive tone shifts.
Liam pinching his brow during Sam's Lootcrate ad, but still defending him with the "real art makes you uncomfortable and challenges you," is big husband vibes.
Sam created a character who deals nothing but low blows to almost every VM member. He confronts them with their flaws as players and as characters. Many things he accused them of as Scanlan, before he left the party is now embodied in Tary. He confronts them with their flaws. He claims to have all the money and riches that Vex always seemed to want. And he flaunts it around, teasing her. He has Doty, which is also a perfect dig at Vex and her understandable obsession with Trinket as well as a dig at Percy, who prouds himself as a genius in tinkering. Speaking of: by being a kind of tinkerer with Doty, whether or not he actually built him himself, he takes away a part of Percy's uniqueness in the group. Taliesin reacts perfectly as a player and turns this kind of insulting situation into a nerdy friendship. He points out Keyleth as the glorious leader of the group. Something she was struggling with all the time, which is why everyone in the chat is uncomfortable with her most of the time. It's hilarious for Sam doing it, but it works well with Tarys kind of douchebag character. He is completely disinterested with Vax or "little elf boy", he tries not (yet at least) to engage in serious emotional situations, because that was always a strong connecting point for Vax to the other characters. It's like he's telling him: no one cares about your emo shit. He is not too harsh against Grog yet, but its easy to make fun of the Intelligence of 6 Barb. And Travis plays Grog so well, that Grog takes no offense in it, often not realizing it being offensive in the first place. So what Sam is doing is maybe uncomfortable, but brilliant.
Between Ashley's Pike disappearing for weeks at a time... and the dismissal of Orion's Tiberius... The party balance is dangerously out of whack. No cleric and no legitimate caster... o_O
Goddamn, Matt totally fucked me up with his foley for the pencil sounds when Doty was writing. It's a quote from Almost Famous. One of the rockstars that the lead character is touring with so he can write about them gets really high & stands on a roof to say that sentence to the whole party.
Last Jedi she's not underestimated. if you look at her full filmography gets lots of work, because of her talents. she's amazing, but I think most people agree.
I mean considering that's her main job, no, she get's a lot of credit and praise for being quite possibly the most talented and famous female voice actor next to jennifer hale.
Okay, I just need to say, that Ashley and Sam are just the perfect combination, all their interactions are just gold. Pike teaching Tary the names of Vox Machina was just as hilarious as the Scene between Pike and Scanlan after he proposed to her. I couldn't breath.
When Grog intimidated Vax back to life that was basically the same situation as Hulk and Iron Man in Avengers. An that is how I imagined the whole scene.
I love when Sam & Ashley end up interacting in character, it always goes off the rails so much and becomes such fantastic moments in the entire campaign xD i know love Taryon thanks to this episode
I really like how the fan art is sort of an ongoing conversation. By this point someone has introduced a particular nose and body shape for Keyleth that doesn't resemble willowy Marisha at all, and others have imitated it. And finally there's an agreed-upon look for Kashaw. So many talented artists who obviously love the show.
Matt really did give himself the ultimate cheat when he introduced Pike's astral form. He can have a character appear and disappear whenever necessary with minimal logic or plot holes.
In one of my old groups, one of the guys tended to have to leave an hour early due to his wife. So our DM had it that he'd pissed off a Hag who cursed him. When it was time for him to leave, he'd turn into a wisp. He could leave out of character, whilst his character was still present with us. He just couldn't do anything!
Yeah, but if your group's healer is gonna be MIA for extended periods like Ashley is, it's either you make the healer an Ex Machina, or you constantly have to invent Ex Machina situations to get healer stuff done. You can't just keep having people dying off every episode.
Yes comparable to the Ultimate cheat of the now oh so common ' Roll a D20 and add your wisdom modifier ' whenever keyleth has to do anything of importance as well as sometimes things not even of importance.
Benglish Chinese Wisdom is her spellcasting ability, you knob. Matt has her roll Wisdom checks when she wants to try to use a spell in an unconventional way, which Marisha does a lot of because that's part of the juice of D&D for her. He had Orion roll Charisma checks for Tiberius for the same reason. They come from Pathfinder (aka D&D 3.75) where casters had a lot more leeway with spells. The spellcasting ability check appears to be Matt's way of blending the two systems - it's got nothing to do with how Marisha roleplays Keyleth. But sure, carry on whinging if you like.
Ahhh an emotional, blind snowflake come to defend their goddess. I understand you can't stand any form of criticism being expressed about marisha but i'm afraid in your rage you have completely ignored the point of what i said and this comment chain and instead are making up your own argument out of nowhere. Allow me to bring it back on topic. Game cheats and how matt telling marisha to explicitly roll a d20 and add her wisdom modifier is a form of this: Most of what you say is completely pointless and so i won't bother addressing it... including that they used to play pathfinder that Orion apparently rolled charisma in a similar way and that wisdom is her spell casting ability. Painfully obvious and/or irrelevant information you typed for no reason. Now an actual point that when this is done it is simply because it is an unconventional scenario and matt uses this phrase to best suit these scenarios in a casual and appropriate way. This is simply wrong. When reviving vax after the kraken fight this was used... it was completely inappropriate, there was nothing present in what keyleth brought to the ritual that made a wisdom role valid. During the kraken fight she simply used a spell completely wrong 'grasping vine' (spell she has had for a very long time and is quite basic). The spell creates a vine and to move someone held by the vine which is a listed ability the creature makes a strength save. the caster makes no role at all. These are both explicit examples of the phrase being used not in the way you implied but simply to give keyleth/marisha a better chance of succeeding. Stop worrying so much about defending someone you don't know you get so emotional you can't even realise that i am saying the problem here is with matt not marisha. Even though the whole comment chain has been about that. Pathetic.

The hallmark of the really top-tier moments, I find, is when I absolutely have to rewind once for every cast member's reaction (at minimum).
it's up there with the return of victor for me. really any moment that makes liam disappear is pretty fantastic
Or even the Cannon ball Scene in the Mansion
2:21:39 yess favorite moment so far
Grog has the best moments during the resurrection rituals! Hands down
Also, Sam is a genius...incorporating Scanlan into his back story without mentioning him, turn a moment where the group was laughing at him to one where their jaws dropped. He's just on another level. So so good!
The flash card scene was one of the best things I’ve ever seen. Everyone loved it and you could tell that towards the end they broke Matt and that’s pretty hard to do, but we can always count on Sam to break him. I just have to say that the flash card scene was amazing and I haven’t laughed so hard in a long time.
One thing that always kills me, the “how does he walk?”

Tary may not have been what the group wanted, but he was definitely what they needed.
He is completely disinterested with Vax or "little elf boy", he tries
not (yet at least) to engage in serious emotional situations, because that was always a strong connecting point for Vax to the other characters.

Took me a mile of scrolling through comments to find you. You are doing God's work. Thank you.
I have no idea what my comment was about.... probably had my phone in my pocket and my butt type it lol

"Can you, in this form, see me all the time?"
"Yes... So I will know."
Pike is either Jesus, or Santa Claus.
When Grog intimidated Vax back to life that was basically the same situation as Hulk and Iron Man in Avengers. An that is how I imagined the whole scene.
I picture Carbot's Diablo II barbarian rage shouting at the corpse until it gets back up (and also spills loot).
Sam crushes it again. “Greg, Box and Box, Kiko, and Perceval “
He says “Vox” not box btw, Vox Vax Vex, too many three letter words beginning with V and ending with X
Don't forget their paladin gnome companion, Pork.
Barely survives a Kraken. Promises to defeat a demon lord. "Ummm, aaah, not sure that's a promise you can keep little elf girl" Raven Queen.
I alway love it when Pike (Ashley) comes back but this episode she really shined with Terry. Had me crying from all the laughing.
Spoiler before 43:11
"Take these wings and fly."
Dammit Liam O'Brien, you've made me cry. Again.
I love when Sam & Ashley end up interacting in character, it always goes off the rails so much and becomes such fantastic moments in the entire campaign xD
i know love Taryon thanks to this episode
I really like how the fan art is sort of an ongoing conversation. By this point someone has introduced a particular nose and body shape for Keyleth that doesn't resemble willowy Marisha at all, and others have imitated it. And finally there's an agreed-upon look for Kashaw. So many talented artists who obviously love the show.
Travis is the best role player ever. I love all of the cast, and they all do a great job, but Travis plays his character the best.
Sam...
I love how Ashley literally _always_ manages to make it to an episode proceeding one where a party member has died. She never fails.xD
2:29:20 Matt loses it - I have never seen him go red that much :D:D:D:D
Definitely one of the best Taryon's moments.
InanDante Oh god, poor Matt is trying so hard to keep it together.
Only Sam Riegel can make anyone and everyone in Critical Role to fucking lose it.
And Ashley holds it together brilliantly, i love everything about this part
He's doing an excellent job of playing the outsider, learning about the group.
I'm sitting at work right now laughing so hard I'm crying.
Pike: One of these days, I am going to regroup with you guys when one of you ISN"T dead
The art piece by Jonesy at 1:31:05 is stunning. Vax doing the Raven queens hair, Brilliant! It's just *chief's kiss* perfection.
😭😭😭
Spoilers:
Probably the reason why she wants him by her side
Should’ve been funbuns
Game cheats and how matt telling marisha to explicitly roll a d20 and add her wisdom modifier is a form of this:
Most of what you say is completely pointless and so i won't bother addressing it... including that they used to play pathfinder that Orion apparently rolled charisma in a similar way and that wisdom is her spell casting ability.
Pathetic.
