I don't think I've ever been seething at a finale of any show such as this. They threw in Plagueis and Yoda for the sole reason of desperately trying to undeservedly get a second season. This just makes Yoda complicit in covering up the Sith. Leslie Headland insinuated that she would make Yoda lie in S2 if there was one. Get this wacko away from Star Wars.
It's crazy how Osha, Mae and some of the other characters just switch sides constantly every 20 minutes. People who saw Revenge of the Sith and felt Anakin turned to the Dark Side way too quickly should be more upset with this. All of Osha's childhood friends were killed in front of her and she doesn't care. She in fact led one of the ones protecting her to his death. She forgives their killer because she sees him naked yet kills Sol in a hearbeat who justifiably killed her mother 20 years prior.
The actors who actually had talent: Lee Jung Jae and Carrie Anne Moss aren't in the show anymore, so now we're left with the literal worst: Leslie Headlund's wife and Osha/Mae, who were the worst actors by far in the show, and now they're the ones leading the second season. WIth its already low viewership, I hope Disney actually has a brain and cancels and retcons this mess. But knowing them, they'll make the worst decisions possible.
I've long accepted that SW is no longer for me, but I suspect that most recently it's primarily aimed towards teen girls. Just got back from family game night. Brought a package of SW Oreos that can either be light or dark side creme filled, which prompted the question, which side do YOU choose? My 12 yo nephew proclaimed his allegiance to the light side, simply stating, "Mace Windu!" My 15 yo niece immediately disagreed. Her reasoning for preferring the dark side was that the light side was about rules and order and the patriarchy. Maybe she's a rebellious teen, maybe it's the Swiftie in her, but she is the only one still consuming Disney SW. Everyone else has been apathetic since around Mando S2. Maybe Disney manufactured this, or maybe they understand the market, I don't know.
@@anovaguy I feel the same and have noticed that too. Ever since the sequels, when they demolished Han, Leia and specially Luke to make room for new characters, and designed Rey not only to replace him but also to be vastly superior to every other previous character, the change in their target audience became very apparent. The market choice however is unclear, it seems driven mostly by ideological reasons rather than anything else. Disney always had young girls as their main audience, and that goes way back to Snow White, but how this change could benefit Star Wars is a mystery because it used to be immensely successful with all kinds of people around the world and now they are narrowing their audience. I can't see any reason other than Disney corporate culture. My bet is that the upcoming "Ep. X - The new Jedi order" will be the final test: old fans won't be caught off guard like they were with previous Disney Star Wars products and will ignore the movie. If it flops, Disney won't be able to justify itself with the usual excuses, but if the movie succeeds, old fans will definitely have to look for other hobbies.
Your 15 yo niece seems on point about rejecting "rules and order and the patriarchy". The problem is that those are actually what the Dark side is about, and this show fails to establish this in their quest to portray the Jedi Order as being problematic and Jedis as having flaws. Instead, being an evil murderer seems like the individiualistic and cool thing to do!

Honestly this show isn’t even original. We’ve already seen the Jedi as flawed in games, movies, it’s just getting old and predictable. And the Ezra miller Sith dude, he’s literally Kylo Ren. The twins are just a discount Anakin. Like no originality whatsoever.
Kylo ren sucks also the characters don’t even act like Jedi at all sure they misguided but they still are the good guys.

Well, I have to say is that this series was a disaster we found out more already what we knew I’m just shocked the Anakin’s lightsaber didn’t turn red after all the murders he committed and all the anger and the hate that he had. I am definitely not looking for season two I don’t want it. none of us do

“Revenge of the Beaver”! 🤣. That’s so cool!!! One of the biggest problems for me is the lack of creativity/ originality. Many of their themes are “borrowed” from other, better shows, e.g. The Parent Trap, Rashomon, Frozen, etc. The whole show felt like a patchwork of ideas which they have no idea how to connect into a logical, compelling story. In the end, the only things that stood out to me was: The Jedi are incompetent and/or corrupt, and “There’s no good or evil”. Quite disheartening to an old school Star Wars fan like myself.

The Jedi were always flawed, but never fundamentally rotten to the core. George in his words, called the Jedi "the most moral of anybody in the galaxy," but this show has turned them into a terrible institution that covers up all their wrongdoings. And made them corrupt space cops when they're supposed to be benevolent warrior monks.
You are the first person I've heard say that about Darth Plagueis (not being associated with this backstory). I couldn't agree with you more.

I think the reason Bazil sabotaged the ship is because Sol activated the targeting system and appeared to be on the verge of shooting Mae's ship. Why Bazil cared about that, I have no idea.
If you liked Manny Jacinto's performance as Qimir, I recommend watching _The Good Place_ . He's fantastic in it, although nothing at all like Qimir.
Headland’s real inspiration is Leave it to Beaver: Sol is Ward, Indara is June, Wally is Osha, Eddie Haskell is Mae, Lumpy is Yoda and Bazil is the Beaver, of course.
I so Wanted to like this show that I was actively seeking out reviews that would bolster my wishes. Your refreshing take on it really helped me process the many outrageous problems of this series. Thank you! Keep up the great work.

Sol died because he struggled with the English language. He couldn’t explain things with enough clarity and thoroughly. Who knew a Force choke is a way to kill a Jedi without a weapon? Nobody was predicting this prior to when it happened.
I would read stuff from Reddit and I’m surprised a number of people enjoyed The Acolyte. Even giving it a score of 8.5/10. I’ve seen it being ranked as the 3rd best SW on Disney+ behind Andor and The Mandalorian. Not for me but more power (of Manny) to them. Toxic reviewers who rage bait divides people.
It’s Saturday and we’re still talking about The Acolyte. Maybe over time, it will get appreciated more? Prequels were the perfect example of “I guess you guys aren't ready for that yet. But your kids are gonna love it." Maybe in 20-25 years, people will look at some of the Disney Star Wars a little more fondly?

I’ve never seen Dune 2 and don’t have any urge to. I know that’s what most people will put at No. 1. I found the first one way too bland. As Maggie from deepfocuslens said, she finds these Dune movies very sterile. Extremely slow and boring.
The Acolyte might be dead last, but I do think it’s overHATED. Some of the undeserved hatred comes from not only review bombing but people who’ve never seen it. They just parrot what other people say about it and go along with them.
Going to rewatch Fly Me to the Moon a third time in the theater. I’m not into rom-coms, but this one I first saw the other day after watching Twisters, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Love the vibe it brings and the 1969 look. The story is actually pretty good. Probably the most fun NASA/astronaut movie I’ve ever seen.
Pacing is good. Music is good. ScarJo has charisma and charm like Julia Roberts and Meg Ryan in the 90s. Channing Tatum has grown on me. I’m very much into comedies because it offers the highest replay value for me. I don’t think Fly Me to the Moon is the best movie of the year. It just happens to be my favorite for being so charming and it never feels slow. It has a historic background story that I find interesting for a rom-com.

So I was ranking all the MCU movies with the exception of The Marvels as I haven’t seen that yet on my Letterboxd app. I think Thor: Love and Thunder and Iron Man 2 are some of the worst films of the franchise but I surprisingly enjoyed them. Love and Thunder is really a bad movie. Maybe a top 7 worst movie from MCU. But it doesn’t mean I hated it.
Maybe that’s how some people feel about The Acolyte? Sometimes being bad doesn’t prevent people from still liking it. Enjoy what you want to enjoy and don’t listen to others telling you not to enjoy it.

A show where they tried to make the Jedi the bad guys and the women cult the good misunderstood side but instead the Jedi were pretty justified and the witches were manipulative scumbags. Meanwhile Qimir the sith acolyte is just there for eyecandy where we have no idea what his angle is on this story, basically have Darth Plaguis there for fan service looking like a creep like ET/Gollum without explanatin and then involving Yoda at the end to put an exclamation mark by ruining another character. Thanks Lucasfilm!
Yeah they completely failed to make the dark side lesbian witches look like the victims but somehow thought they succeeded. I mean they mind-fucked Torbin immediately and that ended up killing off their coven. The Jedi didn't do anything wrong except, for no logical reason, Indara lied about what happened. There's a disconnect between what was shown and what they wanted people to see. She should have told the counsel about the suicide cult of dark side witches so that if other Jedi encounter something like that, they can be better prepared.
Agreed!! They tried, but I don’t think they realize that it’s not possible. We can all feel what’s off about these situations! The witches coven was totally manipulative!!
They actually expect us to root for them at the end. 😂😂😂 Please make season 2.. I'm begging Disney to do it. We obviously aren't gonna get anything of quality from them so I'm curious to see how bad it will get at this point. 😂😂

Anti-establishment ideas seriously need to take a turn being villains in stories. It would be subversive and original now.
Our stories are so trite and full of cynicism...it's so bloated with the good guys being chaotic rebels or even straight up evil that it just makes you roll your eyes for the thousandth time.
Let the cop be earnest and win, let the king be fair and just, let the knights be brave and noble. This generation of writers does not believe in heroes and will refuse to depict them. It is why they are failing to tell stories.
And yes, such things are very much against biblical teachings for those who believe. Can only truly imagine one biblical figure who would stoke that fire.
Remember kids the compassionate and selfless Jedi are actually evil idiots. The power hungry and murderous Sith are actually misunderstood good guys. Smh

I don't go on Twitter any more, but Threads is filled with these weird Disney Star Wars defenders who think everything Star Wars is simply amazing- also has folks saying things like, "Thor: The Dark World is the best MCU film, change my mind!"- so I guess that explains a lot about Threads actually.

Lets say your at the Pinnacle of life working at a local fast food restaurant working the FF machine, but you like your FF not golden brown but dark 10 sec. from burnt brown thus that is the way you start serving them to the customers. At first most take it as well better than no FF's, but after a short time the complaints start to increase, but you don't care because all the boss knows is that your never late and since he is always in the back office watching rodent porn he is a non-factor. So as the complaints increase you start blaming them, saying high in volume "what, you prefer old soft limp ff's, all soggy white, what do you have against crunchy dark ff's" while you anger the loyal customers you feel proud on how your imposing your will on them. Yaaaa
Great reaction. I had the exact same major complaints. This plot has so many bizarre happenings that clearly show the raw psyche of the showrunner.
It's just this train wreck waiting to stop, and this was the wall it plowed into.
No likable original characters left.
Heavy-handed jedi bashing.
Incoherent message, or malicious message? Someone specifically remarked a felt vandalism. Theory called it akin to licking an apple and returning it back to the grocery stand.
It's just really aggravating that none of this was warranted. If the characters had been well written and compelling, it might have offered an interesting discussion, but this was over for me by the premiere and just kept going further in its own spiraling.
Amazing frankly. A whole studio funded with hundreds and hundreds of millions of dollars and professed desire to steward Star Wars would then sanction an ugly mess that damages the jedi without creating any new depth to them.
I get it. Tall statues can cast long shadows. But if you break it trying to explain that, you missed the point and failed to deliver a deeper message that you could have gone for.

Out of a zillion disappointed reviews on The Acolyte's ending, this is one of the more level headed one! Focusing on the writing, and the implications for what the moral of the story is, and finally praising a few of the actors performances. Not succumbing to the Dark side, kudos! :)

When I saw the 7 episode, I knew 8 wasn’t going to be able to wrap up the series in a satisfying way. Incredibly bad pacing across the series, with boring scenes where no plot advances, my expectations of a badly constructed finale was subverted: it was so much worse. Throwing in Plagues, Yoda seems a desperate attempt to inject connection to the StarWars genre. Amateurish, feeble storytelling.

The saber bleed, Yoda and Plagues were all just for show. Totally agree!
There is bad, terrible, train wreck and The Acolyte. Where was the character development and establishing of the main characters motivations? I think the scene where Osha force chokes the Sol to death made no sense, like most of this show. They needed to show her turning to the Dark Side, similar to when she put on that helmet. I turned off after Ep.4, then cancelled my Disney+ subscription and just started watching UA-cam reviews, these were more interesting than the show.

Exactly! We needed little nods to Osha’s dark side way sooner. Instead they portrayed her as a good hearted child . Then she kills Sol and runs off with a murderer., without even finding out what really happened.

I did not enjoy this show at all. It made the Jedi look COMPLETELY inept at everything a Jedi should able to do. It really feels like Disney is methodically dismantling Lucas' actual vision and what he created before they purchased it from him. Side note, they have only recovered about half the money they bought it for 12 years ago. First time visiting your channel Cami, well done, keep it up!

The way they told the story, I've tried not to hate it, they succeeded in the audience really dosent understand anything till episode 7

I have watched so many UA-cam channels ask why did Basil do that. He wasn’t doing that just to be helping Mae he was making sure that when Sol aimed to shoot one of the wings on her ship and if Sol would have done that it would have caused both ships to crash in the asteroid because of the reverse shockwave from that blast so Basil in essence was saving everyone

I stopped watcing Disney Star Wars after Ahsoka. It's all trash. This is why I miss George Lucas :(

Yeah, I don't trust anyone who claims that The Acolyte is the worst Star Wars yet. All I'm seeing is bunch of people is holding Star Wars to standards that they don't hold for the prequels or the original trilogy, because The Acolyte has black girl has the main lead.
I thought it was awesome. Though the show was a 6/10 for me but the finale was pretty good.
