- Hello guys and welcome to today’s episode from the channel. Today I’m doing something a little different, I wanted to discuss the current state of the Scream fandom and basically address what has been showcased at the forefront of all my social media timelines this past week.

This whole thing is ironic because Scream (2022) literally satirized the subject of toxic fandom .
Not only Melissa Barrera fans are upset… I don’t consider myself a fan of her work but I’m capable of knowing the difference of what’s wrong and what’s right especially because Neve is only back because Spy Glass knew their project stood no chance after what they had done unless something as big as Neve and Kevin coming back was made so while I’m happy to see Sidney back the only reason she’s back it’s because of the mess spy glass made
Definitely not the only reason Neve was cast. She's been in all but one of the Scream movies.
And it's not her responsibility to manage Barrera's career or misfortunes.

This is my exact thoughts. I genuinely don’t think spyglass wanted her in scream 7 and I don’t think that she would’ve come back. Now that they don’t have Mellisa and Jenna they panicked and probably paid neve hella money. Don’t get me wrong, I think neve deserves every penny but under these circumstances… idk.
@hollyrose2418 You are wrong. Neve was always planned for Scream 7. She wasn’t supposed to be the main character though. Melissa was supposed to be the main character again. But she ended up getting fired. So they had to rewrite the script.

Yes Neve is Sidney Prescott and she has become the face of the Scream movies but like she's not the only good character or the marker for what saves or kills a movie. Scream has always been an ensemble movie/cast and that's what makes them interesting and fun

Bringing back Neve Campbell and hiring Kevin Williamson as director are two steps in the right direction for the Scream franchise. I definitely hope that they will rehire Melissa Barrera but if not, I will understand. I will still see Scream 7 when it comes out.
I'm cautious about Williamson. He's thé perfect screenwriter for this franchise, but that doesn't make him a good director. Some of us still Remember mrs Tingle
They were already going in the right direction with 5 and 6. they had all the fans hooked, and then they bombed and fired Sam and then Jenna proceeded to leave after. They completely destroyed the franchise with one move. I don’t want more old I want new

I don’t think Scream 7 is gonna fail at all because look at this way of course us Scream fans are always caught up with scream news every second but if you look at just the general audience they don’t keep up to date with the scream news at all, all they see is a new scream movie is releasing so in their mind there like oh this would be the perfect movie to watch in theaters.

It's good to hear both sides of the story in a respectful way, as you did, in my case I'm very happy that Neve and Kevin are back, I've missed them, but at the same time I feel bad for how Melissa was treated and fired

We all know the fanbase is so huge it’s most likely gonna be the biggest opening of all considering neve is back. I’m sad about Sam and Tara but the show must go on.
I really don't know why so many people are upset about the previous actresses aren't gonna be in this movie..... It's not like their out of work & won't be working again ! Most likely they'll be back in the franchise down the road... Or maybe not . But life goes on !
Give Neve her chance to shine and some other new characters in a few movies.. The core 4 can always come back in 5 years and finish off there storyarch - and better once there star power has slightly diminished.

What a suprise it would be if for the first time in a scream film when Ghostface is revealed its a character that wasn't present throughout the film until the end and the Killer is Sam😱 scream 5 & 6 would have served has her backstory. I actually wouldn't mind this lol it would be kind of a win-win we have both Nev and Melissa Beck, there could also be a brutal Throwdown between Sydney and Sam choreographed much like Sydney and Roman.
People really need to grow up. Neve signing on to do Scream 7 was the right choice for her and if people don’t like it then they can get the hell over it.While I don’t believe Melissa should’ve been fired people really need to grow up seriously. If your life is so empty that all you can think about is Melissa being fired you really need to take a long look @ your life & see what’s missing.

Kevin Williamson in the director's chair and Neve Campbell back in the lead as scream always should have been after Wes Craven passed away. I honestly don't know what Spyglass was thinking when they let those leprechauns in Clown costumes from radio silence anywhere near scream.
The OG final Girl and the original writer of scream as director? Unlikely this will fail.
It is very sad at the behavior I’ve seen online about this. I’ve been attacked verbally on how I look because I had an opposing view of someone. It’s ridiculous, hopefully these negative people just stop.

I commented on Neve's instagram post, calling out the toxicity (in a non toxic way no less), and someone who started arguing with me, insulted me by calling me a "mediocre artist" , and telling me to shut the hell up, etc., lol. They were that petty that they went onto my account to try and find something to personally insult me with. Not to mention, this troll has a private account, LOL. I know I'm not a mediocre artist, as tons of people love my work, and I work hard at it, and have worked professionally as an artist off and on (film, video games, toys), so this mostly just made me laugh. It disgusts me how people are though, how mean and toxic, and how disrespectful and cringe it is to go onto a celebrity's Instagram post and talk trash, and attack others in the thread as well. These tolls are total low lives, and the scum of modern society.

I am unhappy with the situation regarding Melissa but I’m also happy for Neve and Kevin regarding Scream 7. I can maintain my view on both subjects and still support both equally.

Scream 5 and 6 were cool but they weren't all that. Especially 5.
And with Kevin Williamson back, the odds are, yes, it will be. And if it isn't, the franchise can finally be put to rest.
It won't be... Scream 3 also had Sidney and Kevin's scripts but it failed because of the production mess that surrounded the movie.

Neve Campbell is a far better actress than Melissa Barrera and Sidney is a obviously a more iconic character than Sam. Seems like Barrera overplayed her hand and the franchise chose to move in a different direction. One that will probably wind up being better anyway
I don't know. Some fans may be thrilled that Neve is back, but some may also look at it and think "Really Ghostface? Seven movies and you still ain't got her after all this time? It's tired at this point."

@@ronkerwick325 That actually makes it worse. Almost a dozen people so far and not a one could get the job done after the first two. Don't get me wrong, Sidney is that girl. But there is the risk that the formula may grow stale after 30 years. BTW: I always crack up at the thought of Michael trying to chase after Laurie at the Shady Pines retirement home.
@@diamondk1 In fairness, most of the killers have come close to finishing off Sidney. They were just done in by hubris or stupidity. It’s also been 13 years since Sidney was the focal point of one of the movies and even then she shared the spotlight with a new cast of characters. It would be wise to wrap up the Sidney, and Gale, storylines in Scream 7 but I wouldn’t be surprised if they stretch it even further. There were some comical scenes throughout the Halloween franchise and that one is definitely up there
Why has all the responsibility been put on Neve’s shoulders to fix Melissa’s issue with Spyglass? Will all the other cast members get the same abuse for signing on? Bloody hell.

I’m happy you took to time to address this. I think it’s so unfair what happened to Melissa but at the same time. I love Scream films and Sydney has been apart of the film since the beginning, it’s her story. At this time there’s nothing we can do, Spyglass sucks. But I think boycotting the film all together is just not right. If people wanna boycott, then let them but those people can’t judge us for not doing the same. I don’t support spy glass I support Scream & Wes
I’ve said this on another video about this. I said I’m happy Neve is coming back, but after what Spyglass did to Melissa I have no desire to see it now.
I feel like it may come down to a generational divide. Younger/newer fans/ people who have recently gotten into the series will possibly relate the Barerra’s stance and not want to support the franchise now. However people who have loved the original and have been there since 1997 or whenever it came out will love the fact that it’s focused on Sydney again. Neither side is right or wrong, it’s just about your beliefs. Im personally very excited for Kevin Williamson to be back since he had a huge part in scream 1, which is still the superior in my opinion.

The only people you’ll be supporting by watching this movie is Spyglass and executives. Cast and crew make no money after the release. All ticket sales goes to the cinemas and studios. Some crew members don’t even get credited bc studios don’t like to credit everybody. The only thing giving money to this movie will accomplish is keep Scream within Spyglass. I’m a crew member and I’m telling you, we literally do not care that much bc we’re employees who rarely get recognised for anything. Think of the shrine from Scream 6 that we all love. Who do you think went through the trouble of bringing it to life? It was graphic designers doing all the illustrations, costume people doing the clothes, set dressers and prop masters doing the rest and more. But do they get any recognition? Of course not, only directors do. So as someone who works as a crew member I can guarantee you that whether the movie makes 20 million or 200 million it makes no difference for 90% of the people involved. But it would definitely send a message to Spyglass.

Let's just enjoy this one with Neve onboard then hopefully Spyglass sell their rights after the trilogy to a more reputable company and Melissa will then come back as well.
They’re not selling. They got the franchise for a steal when the Weinstein Company imploded, the movies are cheap to make by Hollywood standards, and the franchise is globally known and very profitable. Spyglass isn’t giving that up just because a small but loud group of randos on the internet want them to.
In my opinion, I'm still happy that Neve Campbell is coming back to the Scream Franchise but I'm not happy when Melissa Barbara is fired and they got rid of the details for the daughter of Billy Loomis. They might want to rethink about it and keep Melissa Barbara character for the final time cause it'll bring more details in the Scream franchise. Without Melissa Barbara, the details will crew things up and it'll be messy if the daughter of Billy Loomis is not the key for one of the Ghostface problems. They should just bring back Melissa Barbara too instead of messing everything up. Think before doing it. I'm still happy that Neve Campbell is coming back but without Melissa Barbara, it won't bring more details in this film.

You can still support the Scream 7 film AND dislike what Spyglass has done. Both things can be true; dialectics. Melissa deserves better treatment sure, and Spyglass is at fault. But, that doesn't mean that Scream 7 should suffer, nor should Neve and Kevin get flack for coming back. It's literally their franchise. Spyglass may own the rights, but it's Kevin's original story, and Neve's staring role. So, production companies aside, it should still be celebrated that we're getting a 7th instalment. They could have stopped at 4 when Wes passed, but here we are and it's great!

I don’t see how. The fact that Kevin Williamson is the director, will have people flock to theaters. Having him involved in a Scream movie without studios interfering, is the thing every fans been waiting for since 2000…

Not that’s not the reason. A lot of people who are Sidney fans are still disappointed because they wanted another movie with Sam because they love the direction of what her character was going who we could’ve seen if Sam was officially going to choose good or evil. They are apart of scream so they are still fans either way. You are basically implying that they aren’t really apart of scream. They are fan favorites. The reason people don’t want Sidney back is because they are going to repeat the whole storyline like they have with past 4 movies. With Sam people liked they what her character was going to be in the future. People who like Sidney don’t gotta be happy because she is returning because they know exactly what they are going to do with her Character. The same thing. They also can’t fit Chad and Mindy into the story. How would it make sense for to Come back. That the problem with her return

As I've said many a time and still believe. Melissa Berrera is not a loss to this franchise. She is not a great actress and Sam Carpenter was not a great character. Her story arc and the whole hallucination of Billy was absolutely ridiculous and out of place in this franchise. Tara is a huge loss, mainly because Jenna Ortega is an incredible actress. But Sam isn't that kind of loss. I feel for her getting fired, she didn't deserve that. I'm sure she is a lovely person. But she was simply not good enough to carry Scream. With the upmost respect to her, she was not good enough to fill Sidney's shoes and the story that was written for her, which is no fault of hers, was not good. Obviously this is purely subjective... But with the exception of the crap show that was Scream 3, the lowest points of this franchise were when Sam Carpenter was leading it...
Personally I think S7 will start with Sidney getting the news that Sam and Tara were killed by a new Ghostface and that Ghostface killed them to get them out of the way to go after Sidney. And I'm fine with that. I don't care about the politics, I don't care about why she was fired, I only care about the future of this franchise and when it is at its best. And it is absolutely at its best with a stronger protagonist. That is not Sam. It doesn't have to be Sid, but it's not Sam

Absolutely! Melissa Barrera didn't deserve to lose her job, but she is no loss to the franchise. Sam Carpenter is a boring enough character without Barrera dulling it down even further.
In last ditch effort to once again save Dewey, giving Scream the Halloween 2018 treatment by ignoring the events of 5 and 6 isn't a bad way to "fix" things.
@@christina74829the Ghostface killer is nationally known, even in the universe within the “Scream” franchise. Not every story has to be somehow adjacent to Woodsboro High School’s Class of ‘97. To say there are no possibilities without two kinda bland characters is a stretch.

FFS Neve and Courtney are the faces of Scream and everyone else is a guest star. The Carpenter sisters were great but they aren't the face of the Scream franchise. Neve is the Jamie Lee Curtis of Scream and so is Courtney

I think people seem to forget that its OK to be a fan of anyone for whatever reason, but just remember we dont know these people personally and they dont know us, so therefore going to extreme lengths to support a character in a movie is absolute mentality! How about supporting and loving the people that are actually in your life as opposed to people that are basically strangers!
Character wise, I'm fine without the Carpenter sisters. Scream 6 should have offered more for them, eg.: their mother and we got nothing.....

@@anaalicia5029not really. 6 was a pretty standard story for the franchise (the reveal at the end was a slightly tweaked version of the reveal in a previous entry). Seemed most of it was Paramount finally getting to do some of the New York scenes they didn’t want to pay for in Jason Takes Manhattan.

True Scream fans recognize that with Neve back and Kevin Williamson at the helm, this is the closest to the OG Scream recipe as there ever will be. Especially if Courtney and Hayden return, it will be all's well that ends well.
Barrera and Ortega were only in two of the 6 films anyway. The franchise will definitely survive without them. Leave the pettiness to Spyglass, people. Just take the W.

I don’t think it’s doomed it’s gonna be big regardless cuz Neve and Kevin was a smart move on spyglass’ part to save the movie. I personally will not be financially supporting the movie because I don’t want to support the studio :/ I love scream and I will definitely be steaming illegally 😬 the hate towards Neve is really wrong too

Definitely not doomed to fail. But I do think they owe it to the younger generations to appeal to them. These kind of movies were always a young person's game.

And from everything we are hearing Neve tried to help behind the scenes to smooth things over. If they resolved the issues Neve had then that is a win for her.

I’ve noticed it’s “mostly” people who only found the franchise in the last couple years are mad. The rest who grew up with it are ecstatic. It’s mostly performative outrage.
I think this drama is creating a lot of press. And there’s no bad press in Hollywood. Scandals peak people’s interest. So no…scream 7 isn’t dead
Although I didn't agree with the firing of Melissa (unless there is something they knew that I don't), but in my opinion, it's already been done. The sisters are not going to be in the new film. That's just a fact. So I think bringing back Neve and Kevin is really the only way to go. I don't think starting fresh with a new cast, again, with this franchise would work. People are too invested in these previous characters now. So I think it's a great idea to bring it back to the original. People who are complaining just love to be negative about everything. We don't even have a script yet! These people have no idea what the movie is going to be. It could be great. And with both Neve and Kevin back I bet it will be great. I get why people are upset over Melissa. However, it seems like everyone has moved on. Including her. Let's just be happy we are still getting these great movies. I'm personally excited for the new film. I think it will do fine at the box office. But lets wait and see

I was never a huge fan of Sam in the last two Scream films, but Melissa being fired over having a simple opinion is wrong. If she was attacking her own fans like almost every prick in Hollywood these days, that would be one thing. But clearly, this was not the case at all. She was expressing an opinion on a real-world conflict that I'm pretty sure everyone could get behind.
1) Internet is not an accurate representation of the fandom. 2) If the movie is good (script, direction etc) it will be a box office hit. If the movie is bad it will flop. 3) Outside US people (in Europe eg) don't even know that Melissa was fired. 4) Neve was the muse of the creator Wes Craven. "Supporting" Melissa and decline to star in Scream 7 makes zero sense, is totally idiotic. Melissa was more than happy to be on 6 despite Neve being poorly treated...why did she think that a bunch of misogynists aren't racists as well??? 7) Lastly, if it dies I'm happy it will be with the legendary cast and not the cringe core 4 one dimensional characters!! 8) I'M HAPPY FOR A SCREAM 7 TO JUST EXIST!
I will always be upset 'bout the way Spyglass managed the Melissa Barrera situation... She may not be an amazing actress, but I really believe Sam Carpenter will remain as a wasted character with huge potential and not her fault, of course. Scream 7 should have been the perfect end for the Carpenter sisters and Sidney.
But, on the other hand, I'm really hyped Sidney's back and Mostly, that Kevin Williamson will helm this movie. I think this is the perfect chance to go back to the roots and make this as scary as the first one... Would be great if the Carpenter sisters would be back to for closure, but we all know that's not likely.
I was equally upset when Neve Campbell announced she would not be in Scream VI, and I still enjoyed it (was much better than the fifth movie, IMO) so I think Scream VII, with our very beloved Sidney Prescott again at the front, will be explosive (I hope not to end disappointed by the story though)
I didn't like Melissa Barrera's character anyway. I prefer Sydney.

I mean I was against this, but after that leak plot of Christina, the mother of the sisters is back as the Ghostface, yeah, better to call the day with what we saw on S6. Also Jenna is not gonna be available for this movie, she is just going for an small rol, not good at all. I do want a face off between Sam and Tara, but S6 was a good way to sum the story. S7 has the chance for a new start point with a fresh story with legacy characters, the only thing that I like of this Cristina madness was the idea of an X-Mas movie.
I will never attack Neve or the people watching the movie, because I understand. Neve IS Scream, I'm glad they seem to be paying her accordingly. BUT the genocide Israel is promoting is a serious issue, I support Melissa and I personally won't watch except if they re-hire her. I can dream, right?

There’s fandom in their 30/40/50s that grew up on Neve&Co. There’s Teens/20s who grew up on Core4. The first group largely outnumbers the second. I assure you, there’s no “divide” when it’s not even/split to begin with
Teens will go out and see this movie in general…The Scream Ip alone is popular enough to go see the movie.

Its not doomed cause Neve and Kevin are in this project. Melissa as leading role and scream 5 and 6 was cool but the new movie will be okay i believe.
Messy or not I only tolerated Melissa in the leading role because I love the franchise but I always loved n thought Neve should’ve finished the franchise off before they brought in a new angle! Who knows she might just be in it 🤷🏾♂️
as a scream fan i am disappointed with the way they treated melissa and the way it seems like they sort of forced (might not be the right word) neve to be the one to announce that she was coming back was unfair of them to do BUT something else i feel strongly about is the fact that there is absolutely no reason to send anybody death threats especially in this entire situation and i do think that sending death threats is embarrassing and extremely unnecessary

im an og fan and ive seen it said that if you're an og fan you should be thrilled and thats just not the case for me, im heavily disappointed from all aspects, im disappointed in spyglass for letting a franchise have this kind of negativity, im disappointed in neve for coming back in the light of the negativity and im disappointed in melissa for not standing her ground. i love scream and i love the neve campbell but it's getting. so. boring. its the same movie different person every damn time and i was getting excited for this new less sydney prescott plot lines, its unfair to call whoever is fan but doesnt want to see this movie not a real fan. if thats the case id much rather be considered not a real fan then a fan that is so desperate for its franchise not to end that they're literally willing to overlook ATROCITIOUS decisions i love scream it has a near dear place in my heart but this is unfortunately the crossroads we're upon do you stay on the ship in hopes that the holes will mend or do you jump off knowing that the holes are getting bigger

Im happy neve is bsck but also true. Spyglass messed up bad. Many have said neve being in here was for spyglass to save face rather than them wanting her back. They even felt the franchise can move on without any of them. But truthfully i think kevin williamson was the one that stepped in to direct because he knew this was going downhill and he didn't want to see the success of his franchise go downhill so with him there he likely convinced neve to come back.
Might as well let this be the finale and sidney is the star again. Its obvious the fans want stu back. Bring him back. Hes not the shocking twist.

Part 1 - we knew easily billy was the killer. Nobody saw STU also being the killer and the sub twist was billys dad & sids mom.
Part 2 - we knew mickey was the killer. Nobody saw Deb the reporter being the killer, subtwist 1 - shes billy's mom, subtwist 2 we had to watch again to see she was never around sidney.
Part 4 - yes mccauley culkins brother we knew from the beginning he was the killer. Nobody saw it coming with jill plus her motive beibg the subtwist of wanting to become sidney the star.
Kevin williamson wrote all that so stu coming back is a given. But killer #2 and the motive is wat we need to see.

it’s been really hard for me to care about scream 7 updates (it’s been my favorite scary movie franchise forever) cause of how they treated Melissa. I didn’t even care about her in the movies and i wasn’t really a fan of her acting. BUT. WHY she got fired left a terrible taste in my mouth and makes me not want to support the new creators. Still wish the rabid fans wouldn’t send death threats and shit and rather just express distain for how Melissa was treated.

If people were patient they may get to see the core 4 return in Scream 8 or a later installment. I'm sure Scream 7 isn't the final film ever. Give it time, Melissa shall return.

Lets be real. At the end of the day, this is just a movie, it's just business. Whether we agree with the decisions made or not, we have to accept whatever is to come. Alot of these trolls are just a bunch of nobodies and people living in their mom's basement. Unless they are working on the movie then they have no say in anything. They can be mad all they want, it still wont change anything. Im personally not 100% on board with whats been going on because scream is one of my favorite movie franchises of all time, but I'm not gonna let that ruin my life like how some people would let it ruin their's.
