I think there's a misunderstanding here. Chinese audiences aren't saying you eat cheap food, but rather that most of what you eat are street snacks, not representative Chinese cuisine. In fact, many roadside eateries offer authentic Chinese dishes at very affordable prices。
Who would ever care if you ate cheap food. But they were pointing out junk fast food stalls which were meant for tourists who did not know better.
Most foreigners will never see or taste most high level Chinese cuisines, they are accustomed to cheap street style food such as chow mein, soup noodle, spring rolls, etc., because they don't know what to order at higher level Chinese cuisine restaurants in China. Also, most Chinese cuisines are too sophisticate for foreigners to understand or appreciate anyway, just like Chinese will never appreciate Danish blue cheese or Australian vegemite.
@@edkk2010There's no so called junk food in Chinese culinary. Only the west has those fattening, unhealthy same old stuff, burgers, chicken and pizza, and then burgers, chicken and pizza again. No difference among McD, Burger King, Pizza hut, Domino's, KFC, Texas fried chicken, all same, all bland, all no variety. That's western food for you.
Exactly! The Chinese audiences are not really asking them to go to high-end restaurants cuz that’s not where the locals have their everyday meals. The Chinese audiences are only saying that they should have proper meals rather than street food, and they could find authentic Chinese cuisine representative of the region/province in proper restaurants along the road and in the shopping malls, which are actually very affordable and sometimes equally cheap as street food.
@@wewave23 China really does have 'junk food' which is not just shockingly low unsafe quality, full of gutter oils and salt but is dangerous. Almost every 'western food' you mentioned is far far superior. It's called 'fast food' and if Chinese have the money they'll eat that food. they should, its far safer and more nutritious.

Amazing you two hooked up with the legend Gweilo 60 in Nanning. I've been following your vlogs in China and when I saw that you were in Nanning I was thinking wouldn't it be awsome if you could meet up with Kirk and collab with him in a vlog. To my surprise I see a notification on my phone from your channel with a photo of the two of you with Kirk.
I started following Kirk at the beginning of covid when he just did the walk and talk videos. I enjoyed his unbias views and experience he shared while living in China. Gweilo 60 is pretty famous China some what of a celebrity by some sense. So glad to see the two of you get together with Kirk and shared this moment with us.

Living in Nanning 17 years--yeah you've definitely seen it develop, haha.
I first came to Beijing in 2014 & also lived in a "smaller" Chinese city for a few years and saw it get a train station and subway etc. etc. Something that is so hard to do in China is really keep up with the pace of change because it's sooooo fast.
LoL I think Beijing is being kind of slow but just 2 days ago I went to see my dentist across ChongQing and I just found a new bridge which I didn’t notice it was building 3 years ago. And it’s a massive bridge for cars AND the metro! In THREE years, across Yangtze River! Back in Seattle it took them like 8 years to build simply a floating bridge and I was so uncomfortable with that😢

Best vlog in this channel. Love the interaction and humor. Gweilo is truly a legend. Such a nice guy and he is absolutely right. Chinese don’t see things the way the western folks do. You can do whatever you want in public and no one will judge or bother you. You can even fart in public (aside from the elevator or enclosed area), no one will judge you.

No need to feel embarrassed about bladder size; the bladder is an organ that can be trained to enlarge. Of course, there are also psychological factors involved. I used to underwent "bladder training" under the guidance of my specialist. Essentially, it involves gradually increasing the interval between each trip to the bathroom, such as adding 30 minutes each day, which can double bladder capacity within one to two weeks.
I can confirm the city wasn't very good back in 17 years ago, when I was also there in Nanning for college. I'm really glad to see all the changes that happened here, amazing!
Gweilo is so full of positivity. He's right. Asia is where things are happening and Nanning is ideally connected. You could also get to Vietnam by road in about 2hrs. Ideally located to travel to XishuangBaNa and explore Yunnan, then into Dali and Tibet. Laos and Myanmar have land borders close by as well.

16:05 This reminds me when I was in Sydney Australia many years ago. I bought a sandwich for take away then on the way out I changed my mind and sat in one of many empty tables. The lady made effort to go out and told me to leave. I was shocked. This would never happen in my country (Indonesia) especially since I had bought something and many tables were empty, although they wouldn't let people to sit without buying anything. I agree different place different way of thinking.

12:05 We lived in Shanghai from 95 to 03. I too learned how to make Pizza (and still do today). I would fly back to the US 2 to 3 times a year and each time I returned I would bring a couple bricks of Costco Mozzarella cheese. We had an oven (a rarity) but it had no seals on the door and so it was great to make Pizza in the winter but miserable in the summer.
