John is the keystone for what I have come to expect from Fishing Vtubers. Friendly, informative, does his best to protect the environment about where he is fishing, and all around a joy to watch every video.
Good evening John! An interesting fact about the dogfish: they used to be an important part of manufacturing arrow shafts for the longbow arrows.. Basically they used the skin as a sandpaper in order to polish the shafts. A particular countryman of yours,Mr. Kevin Hicks, has a video from his workshop detailing the matter,if you are interested..I would share a link to his UA-cam channel but I don't know if it's all right with you.. All the best! Andrei
John is an excellent fisherman and I learn something every video I watch. It would be really nice if we could learn from his Father in Law, on how to prepare and cook these wonderful ingredients, he, like John really explains in an understanding way, how to prepare dishes for Johns catch.
John is my hero! I've been following John's adventures and lessons for around 2 years now. We moved to Cornwall, from the Midlands, on November 1st 2022, and putting into practice the myriad of tips, tricks and techniques, along with all the natural history knowledge John disseminates, I have felt like I actually know what I'm doing! Foraged three beautiful brown crab on Saturday's spring tide! Two cocks, one hen, all were legal, but, following John's teachings, I returned the hen and still got a GREAT feed for all of my family. What's not to love? Costal living ftw! 🤍
You threw me when you said 2.5-3 feet, being from across the pond. Nice day of fishing! The weather is amazingly similar to New England, foggy then out of nowhere blue skies.
Many thanks for taking us on another trip. Interesting how the weather changed during the day. Some lovely fish too. I like dogfish but completely get that a little variety when out fishing would be nice...😂 they are as tough as nails, my friend and I have caught a few hundred and not lost one. Barbless hooks helps to get them back safely. And losing skin to them does hurt..I know. Good little tip there. Best wishes, Kev p.s. loved the footage of the doggies underwater, so graceful. Could almost forgive them everything!
Love your videos very interesting love looking at the underwater cameras looking at the wildlife I go carp fishing but love watching something a bit different
Another very enjoyable video....would it be possible to a a video targeting plaice...rigs...bait...tactics etc... preferably from the shore.......or boat if easier....plaice are fantastic to catch and eat...👍👍
I last went fishing forty odd years ago - Sticklebacks and the odd Gudgeon. I'm no angler but I do enjoy your videos just to see and learn about the natural world - top stuff Sir!
Loving the new channel. Thanks for always helping me relax after a long day, John. I'm working out in Fort Morgan Colorado, USA; there are strict limits on the bass around here(they are monster.. I guy recently caught one with a 'rat lure'. They must be greater than 15 inches. I am inspired by your conservation efforts. Keep up the good work.
Found myself reading the subtitles at the start of your video as I’m not quite awake yet after my 2am channel fishing trip last night BUT I did notice your looking for BEER in the 18th second of reading you subtitles 🍻🙏😂🍀
Im really getting into your fishing exploits John. To the point of actually knowing what type of fish you bring over the side and whether it's a male or female and whether it's bait or table. Ive some mate's who beach cast off pevensey and Eastbourne. Literally 8 miles away from my home. I'm definitely going to have a yap with them and hopefully have a go. Thanks again for doing these videos, regards Mal
Just watching your video John.. The fog is approaching 😮 what boat have you got there pal.. Just I'm seriously considering getting back into the boat fishing game.. Even though the solway is a bit lacking in fish. Thanks pal.
I was so excited to see a video on Tuesday. Just realized this is a different channel first time I received a notification even though I am subscribed to this channel. Anyway thanks for taking us along for the ride
John, I agree with you, the cuckoo wrasse are the most stunning fish around the UK waters... The underwater cam footage was good, can you do more of that in future if visibility allows. Thanks for the upload mate.
This one program makes me miss UK more than any other. I don’t know why, I was at sea for 20 years before I moved to the US, I never lived in Cornwall, although my Mother was born there. Never fished, his accent ? Doubt it. Don’t know, but thanks.
Hi John... Now silly question maybe, I'm getting back into shore fishing. Only winter time, i live n west Midlands bang in the middle of country.. Where would be my best chance of decent winter cod.. Cheers buddy..
As ever a fantastic video,,I'm going to Bude in July and try to use a fly rod and reel forward line hopefully to catch Bass and Mackerel what do you think? Cheers Tony. Good luck tight lines.
Another great vid .Many thanks . Perhaps you can do a Vid .about surfcasting for bass from the beach , with the emphasis on tides and moon faces . So important . I was fishing last year on an isolated surf beach SW . Ireland . I learnt so much from a man fishing near me .
Your height above sea-level + 50% then square-rooted, will give you distance to horizon. I'm 6' so I can see 3 miles. Vessel's beyond that will still be partly visible as superstructure is much higher than sea-level 👍
Still love the vid information galore being out is fishing is enough for me .Done a 12 hour fishing trip saturday dogged all day with dogfish but then the smoothies turned up good day 6 to 8lb
I like to catch any fish on a single hook John weather on a lure float shore or boat , a good size mackerel on a lure and light gear is always a good response I think ,,, dogfish and spiders I’ve been there they soon become pest but they go as they came it’s just part of the game , just a couple of years ago we couldn’t catch a mackerel on the boat and dare I say it the amount of bass ended up like your doggies LOL 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧John Plymouth
Another interesting vid John, is there any chance in future vids to let us know what is /isn't edible and which are good /not good to eat as you land them please, also if there are any restrictions on species/size. I am forever wondering!
Little upset John, no notification received til now!! But smashing upload thanks. Greetings from Cyprus, got the Whelk one first? Regards to the family. 🦀🦀🦞🦞🐟🐟
The old dogfish can be a bit of a nusance, however in my day they were kept for the pot, some call em poor mans rock salmon but fillets fried in butter with some chunky chips they were the DBs , not often you can complain about a fish that is free!
Hi John can I ask the reel you are using in this video I’m thinking about buying one I’ve noticed yours or making a right noise when winding in is that normal or have u got ratchet on Fin nor maraquesa thanks John keep up the great work
Enjoyable video John, those 2 cuckoo wrasse with that beautifully marked Male. A day of frustration with the crabs and dogfish, nice to see the underwater footage. Couple of nice Pollock fillets and a good size spider crab for the table, very tasty. Good day out mate.
Awesome video again John, do u ever use hermit crab as bait? had some success useing them fishing the old Hastings pier in my teens just dropped it close to pylons (not good 4 casting).Happy catching from AUSTRALIA Nick

The ones we caught were gutted straight away and the waste was thrown over the side. Why don’t they make boats that have four jacking points on and you can be fishing like on firm ground ,
