Most departments require that you are drug-free for at least three years before you apply for employment. The answer to that question is that it depends on whether that organization follows the three-year minimum standard or not. Keep in mind that once you get hired if you are ever involved in a shooting or other high risk incident, the agency may require that you undergo a drug test. Any small amount of controlled substances such as marijuana cocaine methamphetamine heroin ecstasy etc. will cause you to get fired from that job. It’s simply not worth the risk.

@@karanthehot1 I recommend you tell the truth, but read that department’s drug use policy and if you will be disqualified because you used steroids within the past year, then you should withdraw your application instead of just being disqualified. Most personal history statements PHS forms ask that you list any, and all agencies you have a plied for peace officer positions. You have to be honest in that section. Each time you are fingerprinted, and entries made into your criminal history file that you were a peace officer applicants for a particular agency. Be sure to list this information in your personal history statement, so that you did not get disqualified for failing to disclose that information to the Background Investigator.

If you are fingerprinted as part of applying for a peace officer position, an entry will be made in your criminal history file that reads: date, Police Officer Applicant and the agency name.

The background packet requests every police interaction in your lifetime. What if I forget about somthing and my name pops up in a police report? Is there a data base where every police report you are mentioned in pops up? Thanks
Hello Joe, it is a good idea to go to every police/sheriff agency that has jurisdiction over the area where you previously lived - go to Records, let them know you are a police officer applicant and ask for a premise history report on every address you ever lived at. This report will show any incidents where police/sheriff responded to your home address. Secondly, while at Records... ask for any reports that contain your name. They will take 7-10 day to search their files and disclose any such incidents. This is important to know prior to filling out the Personal History Statement (PHS) background investigation form.

Hello I am currently on the hiring process to becoming a CHP officer. I wanted to ask if the background process is the same and is it up to date? My division is in Inland empire, California
Hello Bryan - CHP uses the Personal Background Investigation (PHS) form from POST as well as another internal form similar to the PHS. Make sure your information matches on both forms. BUT- although the CHP background process is similar to other law enforcement agencies, they are able to include additional steps to the background investigation process at their discretion. There is only one CHP academy and it is located in Sacramento, CA. Just prior to graduation, you will be asked for your top choices for field office locations. They base your assignment on several key points of information: If you are married, if you own a home, if your kids and close family live in that area, etc. There are no guarantees where you will be assigned but the more categories you check, the higher your chances you will get placed in your desired area. However, all of this is dependent on whether or not that field office has openings at the time of your graduation.

Honesty is best way to pursue a career in law enforcement as dishonesty catches up with you. Although many federal law enforcement agencies do not collaborate with local and state agencies in criminal investigations, there are various locations where information is shared. Anytime you are fingerprinted by a law enforcement agency, they often make an entry into your DOJ Criminal history file that reads: 'Law Enforcement Applicant 'with the date you were fingerprinted, name of law enforcement agency, and date the criminal history check was done. Before applying for a federal law enforcement agency I recommend that you contact DOJ Background investigations Unit in your state and request a copy of your criminal history file to see if any entries have been made on that Nationwide DOJ/NCIC accessible file. Additionally, in California, due to a recent Senate assembly bill, POST created a website that is accessible by all law enforcement agencies of officers who were involved in misconduct with their law enforcement agencies. Do your homework and assess if the risk of not disclosing will disqualify you in future years if/when they find out you lied in your background investigation process.
@@AdjuMjc thank you for your answer I have one last question since I got fingerprinted in California and got disqualified what if a move to Arizona and applied for an agency over there without telling them that I got disqualified in California would they find out and how would they find out?

You will be required to complete a personal history statement. PHS form, which will ask you about not only employment but breaks and employment dates. Your background investigator will question you as to why you took the breaks and there are a number of reasons why applicants at times tax breaks such as to attend college or university to get their education, to care for an elderly, family, member, care for children, etc. it will be up to the Background Investigator if the reason you are taking a break qualifies as acceptable or not

Most law-enforcement agencies want you to be drug-free for at least three years. Experimentation of marijuana is acceptable by most law-enforcement agencies nowadays. You just have to be careful that you are not purchasing drugs for other people or transporting drugs to sell to other people as those are both immediate disqualifiers
Check your Military form DD214 And see what it says. If it says that you were released as dishonorably discharged, it will be very difficult for you to obtain a position law enforcement There may be some wiggle room for other discharge reasons and those are depending on what agency you decide to apply to
Even though you may have a record that was expunged as a minor or other circumstances, there is a question on the background investigation that asks if you were ever involved in an incident that was considered a crime, whether it was expunged or not, and you would have to disclose this information during the background investigation process.

You need to list every single previous department, and the step in which you were disqualified. Even if you weren’t fingerprinted, that previous department documented the fact that you were disqualified, don’t lie, current and future background investigators will find out.
It’s only 50% accurate. It all depends on something called the ‘placebo’ effect. If the person who is taking the test is told and believes that the test actually detects untruthfulness… that accuracy percentage goes up.
I didnt lie on 2 of the only polygraphs I took but omitted one thing that was bugging me for the question that I answer truthfully. If you fail your polygraph for omitting information in your background are you banished forever? My integrity has changed and I am a better person today from this incident. And am thinking about applying for CHP. Will they just not want to deal with me at all?
I asked a friend at their house if they wanted to buy some weed that a friend was selling and their mother overheard and yelled at me to leave. I left. I have never actually sold drugs to anyone in my life but the polygraph was reading that I was lieing about selling drugs. I thought telling them about this would make me look bad so I just left it out since I havent ever sold drugs. Bad choice.
Hello Justin. Law-enforcement agencies do not tell you why you may have failed the background investigation due to liability reasons. When you signed or notarized the release and waiver form, you basically give up any legal rights you may have to be able to view the results from their background investigation. This is not legal advice.
"Spend less time on social media. UA-cam isn't improving your life" says the guy posting on Instagram and UA-cam. LOL. It really depends completely what you are using social media for. Fact is: It certainly has improved many lives.
If they ever ask you something that you don’t know the answer to you have to be as honest as possible and just say that you don’t know the answer to that question.
This is okay. Just keep in mind that if you have a strong accent, you will need to take some ESL (English as Second Language) courses to help with your accent and to gain adequate english writing skills. Any law enforcement position requires you to have adequate skills to speak on the radio and also advanced skills in report writing. You will be expected to testify in court on that police report.

You need to list every single previous department, and the step in which you were disqualified. Even if you weren’t fingerprinted, that previous department documented the fact that you were disqualified, don’t lie, current and future background investigators will find out.
Beefagg wat did u do in the end did ever find out about the other Agency
Hi, how accurate is the Voice stress analysis test?
It’s only 50% accurate. It all depends on something called the ‘placebo’ effect. If the person who is taking the test is told and believes that the test actually detects untruthfulness… that accuracy percentage goes up.
@@AdjuMjc ok, thank you!

Bad choice.
How come agencies can’t tell me why and they lie or being sneaky
Hello Justin. Law-enforcement agencies do not tell you why you may have failed the background investigation due to liability reasons. When you signed or notarized the release and waiver form, you basically give up any legal rights you may have to be able to view the results from their background investigation. This is not legal advice.
"Spend less time on social media. UA-cam isn't improving your life" says the guy posting on Instagram and UA-cam. LOL. It really depends completely what you are using social media for. Fact is: It certainly has improved many lives.
He clearly said to cut back on social media that isn’t bettering your future. His videos are surely bettering someone else’s future.
Destroying more than improving
Hello sir,
For the 9-11 communications dispatcher is the investigation the same process?
Thanks,
What if they ask you something that you honestly don't know the answer to
If they ever ask you something that you don’t know the answer to you have to be as honest as possible and just say that you don’t know the answer to that question.
what if English is your second language?
This is okay. Just keep in mind that if you have a strong accent, you will need to take some ESL (English as Second Language) courses to help with your accent and to gain adequate english writing skills. Any law enforcement position requires you to have adequate skills to speak on the radio and also advanced skills in report writing. You will be expected to testify in court on that police report.
