Hey, how about loading a translation app on your phones? I know it served me well in learning how to pronounce places like San Miguel de Allende, the Paroquia, the Mercado artesano, and the Jardin. Sure, we all mispronounced them at first, but it would be good to feel that we were getting accurate info from professional world travelers like you. Btw, you can catch the number 8 or 9 bus from Plaza Civica near the Mercado to ride up the hill to the Mirador for 8 pesos. Looking forward to your next video. Hope you caught some of the rooftop bars and restaurants SMA is world known for. Many are budget friendly, and particularly wonderful at sunset. Thanks again for all your great videos. Enjoy!
@@BrianandCarriePlease listen to the Spanish pronunciations. Double-L is always pronounced using the phonetic Y, so “Allende” is pronounced “aYENday”, “Llano” is pronounced “YAHno”, etc. Think how you pronounce “tortilla”.
I have lived here for almost 1.5 years and love it. Great weather, low cost of living, safe, large expat community, and a big pickleball community. Most expats don't live in Centro because of the cost and loud fireworks. Cost of living is half of what I was paying in Texas. Don't even need a car - I mostly use my e-bike or walk.
It's fun to see you hone in on specific locations in these videos. I'm also really looking forward to the day when you are reflecting back on this trip and comparing your time in Mexico overall to other countries you've visited. Great information! (And PS - I bet all those people correcting your Spanish don't have much to say about the names of the places you visited in Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Serbia, Romania, etc.! You're doing great!!)
Haha, we were just saying the same thing! Great video it prompted me to set a date in Dec for a longish visit to QRO and SMA. IM considering it as a second home location or maybe more over time. Thanks for the great well thought out and delivered content. Thanks you guys are great.
Great video. My spouse and I included San Miguel as one of our slow travel destinations in Mexico in May-June. There is no denying its beauty. However our apartment did not compare to yours - it was the most dreary place we stayed in during our more than a year travels. Maybe it was because we were there during May Day, but the streets you videoed lack the packed tourist crowds we endured. Did Brian chase people away from your shots? (Just kidding.) And there was a heat dome covering the city the entire time we were there, the temperatures were 95/degrees every day. These challenges didn’t stop us from appreciating San Miguel, because it is indeed wonderful. However your video goes to show how much the luck of weather, accommodation and tourist season can affect your stay. After seeing your video, we want to go back and try again!
Apartments in any location can make a huge difference in the overall experience of any destination. We have had some bad experiences recently and have been forced to up our budget. We also try to be back in the PNW for August, where we know the temperature will be comfortable and we can avoid the crowds. Thank you for watching and commenting!! 😊

So Dan Miguel is on my bucket list. Is it safe and did you see a lot of foreigners? Beautiful place wow . Did you find the place through Bookings. Excellent videos love them.
I have lived here for 1.5 years and my girlfriend has been here 20 years. Very safe and large Expat community. I have not been motivated to improve on my Spanish because you really don't need it here. Excellent weather too. We get a lot of snowbirds and Canadians come here from about October to the beginning of April. Many live here year round.
Never been to San Miguel de Allende so it was interesting to see it through your eyes. Interestingly, the price of tortillas is regulated in Mexico as it is seen as an essential good. Thus, they end up being ridiculously cheap.
Loved this, looks beautiful! Taking notes and hope to do a similar Mexico trip one day. I need to look up on a map the relative distance and location of these Mexican towns.
Didn’t even know about this city, but just added it to the bucket list! Do you feel safe in all the places you’ve been in Mexico? I’d like to take my kids. Maybe it’s just some of the border towns that have a safety issue.
Good job guys! SMA is on our list next trip to Mexico! Looking forward to more of your videos in this place. And for the record…don’t worry about the pronunciation comments. 🙄 Geez. You two give your best and all of us are lucky because of it.

Hello...I just recently found your channel and am enjoying it very much. SMdA has been on my list for a long while now so I am excited about this series. I especially am looking forward to a cost breakdown and recommendations for lodging and restaurants. I would also like to know about the safety factor as I may be traveling solo. Thanks so much! 🙂
We are happy that you found our channel, Rhonda! We haven't had any issues with safety. We will be doing a video on the topic in the next few weeks. Thank you for watching and commenting!! 😊❤️
It's super safe here. Cost to eat out is going to run about $6 - $12 at most restaurants but ones in Centro are going to be about $15 - $25 because of the tourists. Many people and even Mexicans come to SMA to just visit. May Mexicans have SMA as a second home and only visit periodically. If you are going to stay for say just a week, stay in Centro. If say for a month, I would recommend La Lejona, Allende, San Antonio, Las Brisas, and Guadiana neighborhoods. San Antonio neighborhood is very loud with the Church bells every morning and evening, but it's an excellent location.
A few simple Spanish tricks :) Most folks already know how to say tortilla, where the double-L is pronounced like a Y. We don't say tortilla like armadillo. It's tor-TEA-ya. Right? Good. The same is true in the word Allende. It's San Miguel de a-YEN-day. Now, let's move on to Jardín. This one's a bit tougher. In Spanish, when pronouncing a word, the emphasis usually falls on the next to last syllable. If not, an accent mark is used to tell you otherwise. In Jardín, there is an accent over the i. Also, the J is pronounced like the h in hard, not like the j in jar. So, this word is Har-DEAN, with the emphasis on dean. Got it? Spanish can be fun, and there are a ton of Spanish schools in SMA.
Great video and fun location! I am glad to see you guys are having fun in México!! Just FYI, It is San Miguel de A-JEN-DE. The LL sound here like JE in Jello or Jennifer. Also, it is HArdin. JA in Spanish makes a ha sound (as in HAve), not the ja sound in English (as in Janette)... :D
We would say one of the top 2 or three places we have stayed so far. It did take a chunk out of the budget so we will have to make an adjustment but feel that it was worth it.
PRONUNCIATION ... the "Allende" part is pronounced [ eye - end - day ] with the stress on the second syllable .... MERCADO ... the market [ mare - KAH -thDoh ]
