- Skyhook Games' "MML - Leicester to Derby and Nottingham" add-on depicts a disappointingly small part of the Midland Mainline route as it was in the East Midlands Trains era. It focuses on passenger services with the Class 158 Sprinter and Class 43 HST or 'Intercity 125'.
The route had a disastrous release, with several bugs still being present, and there were loads of negative reviews on Steam. But the route has since received a major update, and it's now fairly decent, but still way too short (especially for the HST).
As someone from Leicester and knows this route well, it needs the class 170 in cross country livery (services between Derby and Nottingham, Leicester to Stansted Airport will have to stop at Syston. AI at Leicester for the service to Birmingham New Street).
Also needs the 222 meridian as this route is set in 2019 and the 222 did all the London - Sheffield services)
Unfortunately, dtg lost the cross country license in tsc but I doubt it'll ever come to tsw so no 170 in xc livery
I believe the ex GC sets worked Sheffield diagrams sometimes and of course the morning&evening peak service to leeds
Overall, it seems pretty good, though £29 is certainely steep for the amount of content you get. I wouldn't mind the pricing if the line was to be extended to Sheffield, and with the additions of the class 156 & class 222. The lack of XC trains certainly doesn't help either.
If anything really stands out for me, it is the Class 158, I think that is the best thing Skyhook have made, I really like 158s IRL as I get them where I live.
As for the route itself, it has gotten better than when it first started, but will this next update make it better, or keep it the same?
As long as the devs properly test the update before release (consequently avoiding a repeat of New York to Trenton), it'll be fine by me. I'm thinking of making an updated review of this route once the update is released. But no promises, mind.
Recently found your channel from the Armstrong powerhouse video but so good to see someone be actually be honest you may be critical to some but your absolutely 100 percent correct
I'm thoroughly enjoying this add on...
It's decent that there's the selection of fast and slower scenarios, depending on what class you wish to use. The area in which I've grown up, Class 158s are regular and it's a great unit to drive.
The only negative I've personally found, is that the timetable seems far too tight and unrealistic. With the delay on the 158s due to the guards warning buzzer, I'm never able to keep these scenarios on time
While I don't travel on any lines in TSW it's not impossible that loads of stations have exactly the same shelters as most platform buildings and clutter are maintained by the same company, Network Rail. In fact they've just approved a new modular design of footbridge with lifts that will no doubt be rolled out nationwide further eroding any hint of individuality on our rail system. At least it'll speed up TSW model building I guess.
Honestly, I just want more opportunities to drive an HST. I really like the GWR livery; if only I could use that on more routes.
I got this route shortly after the release and didn't enjoy it at all. However since it's update, i am quite enjoying it and have been enjoying running the 158. I quite like the variation you get but feel London to Leicester would have been better as you could take the HST from London up north. But all TSW developers seem to have forgotten London
The Just Trains version of MML on Train Simulator Classic is miles above this (incomplete) route. It just shows how JT are interested in quality whilst Skyhook a quick buck. It's clear that DTG have a release schedule and DLC just gets shipped whether it's complete or not, full of bugs or not.
I frankly wouldn't buy this route. The fact that it released the way it did is ridiculous. Also I think it's just way too short for the HST
I would of included Sheffield honestly a reason I ain't purchasing
Sheffield is quite a way away but matlock 100% should've been included
As Lincolnshire is my home county in the uk, there should be a sort of an extension from Nottingham to Skegness and 158s can use this section
Used to have the summer Skeggy specials where they used HSTs to Skegness from Derby
Bit disappointed that it doesent go up to sheffield and im also disappointed with that the merdians weren’t a part of the dlc i also feels it is a bit to short
The 158s engines sound terrible dtg can't mix to save their life. Im not a dev but can't they just copy paste the AP sounds, there also should be an beeping noise when the doors are opening

No there's no beep when they open, go and listen to AP's version via their enhancement pack.
Also, the mix isn't terrible at all, maybe it revs just a tiny bit faster but not terrible.
I can tell ya the hst does have the AP horn. I honestly prefer the hst of this route then the boring gwr route
You forgot to mention the Nottingham Trams.
They should next do the ecml
i hate how inconsistent it is to have a functioning destination display it really ruins the immersion for me
