25 YEAR OLD George Foreman Grill vs NEW Ninja Indoor Grill

- Опубліковано 11 лип 2024
- Jamie dug up this 25 year old George Foreman grill from his basement so we decided to see how it holds up against a new, modern Ninja Indoor Grill. It has no temperature control, no timer, not even an on/off button. It probably can't keep up at all right? Well....are you sure?

When I was 18 I left home and had to start learning how to adult quick.
The foreman was one the first purchases I made along side a camping stove since the place i moved into didn't have a working kitchen.
For 6 months that grill became my best friend. Still used regularly to this day 13 years on. They are absolute powerhouses and easy enough to clean for the most inebriated at 2 in the morning.
Wow. Cool story, thanks for sharing !! Cheers. Marc
I've owned a GFG for about 20 years now and was looking at replacing it because a friend made fun of my Old Fashioned "antique" cookware. AND I LOVE my GFG...I think i'm still keeping it. :)
Haha awesome! Good choice! - J
Are you an adult? And you are still susceptible to peer pressure? Well I now know how you acted during Covid lmfao!
I just bought one brand new in the box from 1999. I love it!
That's so cool! - J
@@anti-ethniccleansing465 wow 🧐🤣
I swear by my George Foreman. Hamburgers, sausages, flank steak, chicken breasts, boneless meat cuts, and grilled veggies...all good on a George Foreman.
Awesome.
I'm older than the GFG but never owned one. I picked up a beautiful used stainless steel one with a timer for $5 the other day and I love it. I've made burgers, reheated American chop suey, eggs over hard with hash-browns, and tonight I made pancakes with it. I'm in love. They all have come out as you would expect each item to be. I don't even have to form my patties. I just put two lumps of ground beef on the grill, closed the lid, pressed down gently and got wonderful hamburger patties compared to yours. I cut two thick slices of onion and grilled them on there too. My burgers didn't shrink. Everything was beautiful. It pours the grease off and just enough remains to remain non-stick. I don't wash my non-sticks. I wipe them out with paper towel when they're still hot and gets it clean every time.
Wow that’s amazing ! Great score for $5!!! Thanks for watching. Marc
Really impressive from the old George Foreman. As an American, I'd have only cooked it about half the time, so maybe it wouldn't have been quite as nice of a crust, but for something that's been around so long, it's hard to make fun of the thing! Actually, from my own experience using an old Foreman a number of years ago, you DON'T get the greatest grill marks etc if you're cooking medium-rare to medium-ish. I suspect it's probably because it just doesn't have the mass to retain the heat required. Even still, these things definitely have their place. Great video! :)
Thanks for the great comment! - J
Nothing better than the original George Foreman Grill. It has one job and it does it to perfection.
It was way ahead of its time and still is relevant!! Marc
Loved the old Foreman clips. Oh, the burgers looked good to.
Thanks so much !! Marc
I owned an old Foreman, one of the larger models with the selectable temp and used it until the hinge broke. I loved that thing. I replaced with a Cuisinart that also had a griddle feature, but the grill simply didn't compare plus it dripped all the fat on the counter not in the drip tray, just a bad design. The original still works.
Nothing like an old Foreman! - J
thanks for great review new subscriber here, love from the uk
Awesome man thanks. !! Cheers from 🇨🇦! 🍻. Marc
i think the main difference is the cleaning up .. I wanted a Ninja Foodi Grill but cleaning the splatter screen and the rotating fan from all the grease, seems harder than removing the 2 grill plates to wash..
Great point, and I agree 100%. Thanks for watching. Marc
Wow this is like the exact comparison I wanted to see. I have been using George Foreman's my whole life and still daily one, and I wanted to upgrade to a Ninja Grill. The cleanup process is the main concern I have, it is simply too easy to wipe down the George! I also don't have a dishwasher or running water at all here. Seems annoying to clean the Ninja after each use... Decisions, decisions!
Glad we could help !! Marc
Hi..if you have not gotten the Ninja yet...I had one and sold it soon after on Ebay...It's because its big and bulky and a lot more to clean. It has it's Pros but for me I live alone and it was just not simple enough for me. However, the Ninja might be more your style.
In 1995, I was at Walmart, and happened to walk by a display of George Forman grills, they had a special sale...a double grill machine..it was on sale for $75.00 dollars..used it for years... love it.. I still have it... although I haven't used it in awhile (10 yrs)...it now sits in its original packaging in my storage room...we also used it during campouts..works great.. some campgrounds have electric hookups. Our Forman grill has timers, and is somehow smokeless. Far as cleaning...warm soapy water, heated grill, wipe...tadda.
Great products! - J
Another victory for George Foreman ........
Hahaha
I still have a Forman grill. Got it in 2001 for college. I don’t eat meat these days so it doesn’t get as much use. When I did use it, I just put it on the stove top and ran the exhaust fan.
That's a great tip! Thanks for watching! - J
Same for me, in 2022 I still use it some times.
Why you don’t eat meat boss?
You can do a lot of veggies & seagood on a foreman as well. They offer some recipes on their website for fre.
I bet you could use that thing to make plenty of things that don’t cook meat though!
Excellent video review!
Thanks ! Marc
Have a George Foreman at least 20 years old - has removable grills - a MUST! Doing some research to see about getting a new one because the handles on the grills are cracked. Just cooked up some pork today, in fact. Use parchment paper so there is literally zero clean up except the drip tray 👍🏼 Maybe I’ll stick with the GF. Also never flipped. Use it all the time for salmon - 7 minutes max
Awesome idea on the parchment. Thanks for watching. Marc
We use aluminum foil. Works great.
@@gatorjohnny but it’s not good to ingest things cooked in metals at high temps- parchment safer and better for enviro 📜
Pork ? 🤢🤮🤮🤮
@@Koji-888 pork is foul , pigs eat their own poop also pigs are filled with worms 🤮🤮🤮
Great reviews. The long form Ninja review was awesome.
Non-cooking question: where you get the plaid shirts? brown n red ones
Haha awesome feed back thanks so much. Shirts, mark work warehouse. Nothin fancy. But super comfy. Thanks for watching. Cheers 🍻. 🇨🇦. Marc
I love my George! I have had it for 17 years and THAT LOVELY BEAST IS NOT GOING ANYWHERE!
Haha I don't blame you! - J
Oooof in Canada they make you grill well done? My wife likes them that way but she’s not from America but Honduras lol, the frozen burgers are making me cringe a bit too.
I have a foreman single burger grill from 10/15 years ago and it still cooks burgers I make from ground chuck really well when the grill outside can’t be used.
Well in your own home obviously you can cook them however you want. It's more of a restaurant thing. That being said, I'd say most people here do go with well done burgers.
We hear you about the frozen burgers haha, but it was just to demonstrate the difference is all. Thanks for watching! - J
So just really quick. You cooked the foreman's way too long. It cooks both sides at the same time. Max is 4 to 5 minutes for a hamburger to get it well done 😂. That was one of the main things about it. It cooks twice as fast
Thanks for the comment. That's true, except it doesn't necessarily cook evenly on both sides. Thanks for watching! - J
The GFG I grew up with had a plastic scraper that was molded to the grill grooves to clean it
I think Jamie had it at some point. But not anymore. Marc
Just found your channel - love the reviews!
Also I feel like this was a missed opportunity to cook Michael Scott's breakfast of choice - 6 strips of bacon on his George Foreman grill. 😉
Thanks so much! Haha that's a great point! - J
Don't know why but I completely forgot I had one of Forman grills that was handed down from my mom after she was clearing out some junk. I dusted it off and made some chicken thighs yesterday and it still holds up! You just have to watch it to make sure it doesn't overcook or burn the top. I had no idea that the original model was from '94 because I was living in Hawaii at that time and they weren't popular there. It didn't make sense to have an indoor grill because the weather is mild and everyone had some kind of hibachi grill to grill outside.
Haha that’s awesome !!! Thanks for sharing that. Cheers. Marc
i have ninja products galore, but i still use my foreman grill to this day. plus foreman cooks on both sides and keeps them flat.
Awesome ! Marc
I hope you didn’t waste your money on their blender either.
I have a 2024 Foreman, still smokes and drains all the fat, like it a lot
Awesome! - J
I dunno. Maybe it was because we owned to "1st editions" that GFGs sucked. We got them on discount since I worked at a store that sold them. The grease would miss the driptray and get all over the counter. You couldn't fit "fat" burgers into the grill and they'd cook unevenly requiring you to flip them anyway. Forget about sauté. The 2-stage cleaning process was a PITA (reheating the grill to clean it rather than just being able to using soapy water and/or soft sponge. The grease also caked up in corners so you'd smell it everytime you passed by it. Finally the hinges broke on both grills (mind you these grills were in two different households). These were just highfalutin waffle irons that were being name-branded. In the time it took to finish a family pack of hamburger meat I could cook it all in a pan, oven, or fire up the grill (for outdoors). Airfryers have made them even more obsolete since they serve a multi-function purpose. I still have a GFG sitting on a shelf collecting greaseballs for like the last 10 years maybe alongside the Ninja chopper and several other Only-For-TV gimmick purchases.
Thanks for the comment and perspective! - J
both did a good job.....burgers were overcooked, in the Foreman grill.....a have a couple of Foreman grills and still daily use them.....your right, the person who invented them was a genius.....
Agreed! Thanks for the comment! - J
Still got mine the Forman lg grill, want the ninja 4n1 ?? I have the Breville convection oven, Phillips xl 1 gen air fryer
Nice, but I don't get the question? - J
I am new to the George Foreman burger world, and started with a worn out single cooker. I got excellent results with frozen patties, timing them for 6 minutes after stabilized temperature. Never fail success.
I have just purchased a new Evolve cooker, with removable plates. I find that I am having to cook the burgers a little longer, but they still turn out juicy and tasty. I have not experimented with doing other dishes on this cooker, but have no regrets about buying the Evolve cookert, as I like having the convenience of the removable plates.
I wouldn't mind having the deep dish plate, but because of the cost, and other available utensils, I doubt that I will be buying it.
Awesome! - J
I just got a George Forman Grill model “GR30” with code “0829” (29th week of 2008?) out of the trash today. It works. And it is clean. But the nonstick surface is scratched, especially on the bottom plate. Does that make it unhealthy to use? Also, the drip pan is missing, although I suppose I could improvise with that.
Lol well I'm not sure we can answer that. I know one man's trash is another man's treasure, but I don't think I'd be using that. Thanks for watching! - J
I scrapped it. Thank-you for your reply.@@TheAverageKitchen
The 1994 grill is mentioned to cook hamburgers in less than 2 minutes in the same commercial you show in your video.
Regardless I have an original and just bought a new one today. We also have a ninja air fryer.
Older is built better but new has better no stick at the moment.
Got the old one in 1999 without the grease tray and used plates but the new is nice and better looking.
Awesome. Thanks for watching ! Marc
I’m from the U.S. and everyone I know eats their burgers well done! 🍔
Oh wow interesting ! Thanks for watching. Marc
I’m from the US and everyone I know does medium
Also from US - medium rare. My dad used to say, cook it just til it stops mooing
Haha nice. Marc
That's because you have to, you order medium rare and they're like "the feds won't let us serve anything below medium well"
Foreman Grills are hot. Like 400-500 degree fahrenheit. Frozen burgers take like 5 minutes. Then pork and chicken get pretty hard on the outside, because you have to cook them longer to make sure the meat is done. Way cheaper though.
You're totally right. I've had plenty of crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside chicken breasts over the years lol. Thanks for watching! - J
@@TheAverageKitchen just cut the breast length wise and make two thinner breast
ajso,it is steam that comes out,i never had a problem with smoke and the grease drains to the oil tray, which is great.
👍🏼👍🏼
I have both machines. The Forman works well, but the meat is dryer than the Ninja. I like my burgers cooked throuth as well. Great video as always, Thank you
Thanks so much! Have to agree with that assessment. - J
25 years?? How? My Foreman grill crapped out on me after about 5 years of use. 😂
This baby is a UNIT. Still grinding away. Thanks for watching! - J

I would have died as a student without my george foreman.

I'm a single dude so- I'm not as persnickety.... But I swear by my George Foreman grill. But I do a lil trick. I pan seared my steaks & burgers then slap them on the grill for just a couple of minutes & Wallah.
Also,

*Range Hood.*
Great tips. Thanks for watching! - J
They look perfect to me, and the Forman grill looks a lot easier to clean.
Definitely easier to clean. Thanks for watching! - J
Yikes. 12 minutes on the Foreman for a frozen burger? I'm Canadian and that's 5-6 minutes total as it's cooking both sides. What a miss.
Well it is 25 years old lol. Thanks for watching! - J
Price point and speed alone I'd definitely go new Forman lol
Great perspective!! Marc
We still have our 23yr old George foreman grill. I cook frozen bubba burgers 7-8 minutes and don't flip them. They come out nice and juicy.
The thought process at least at the time in the US regarding countertop kitchen appliances was two things
1) Compactness
2) Animal fat bad so the appliances were designed to cook and drain away all of the goodness out of the meat.
We also bought a newer larger George foreman grill with a slider type temperature setting and removable grill plates. The slider broke after only using it a like 5 times. Also the grease catcher was way smaller and thus overflowed all the time. So it's now resting somewhere in a landfill
Great comment. Thanks for watching ! Marc
@@TheAverageKitchenYou're welcome.
I can believe its lasted as long as it has, we live in Florida and we actually take it the beach with us when we go on vacation because its small. I just got a hamilton beach indoor grill that has a cover for x-mas so we'll see how that works compared to the GF grill. I cook most things in the air fryer nowadays. There are lots of appliances today we didn't really have 25yrs ago. And now of course animal fat isnt really considered that bad.
@@oscardelta1257
You’re joking, right? Hamburger grease is terrible for you! Animal fat is _NOT HEALTHY._ It causes heart disease, ffs.
When cleaning the pull outs..be careful for the sharp edges that cuts / nips the fingers and hand while cleaning...of course one would want the tight edges cleaned... dishwasher can be not cleaning to its fullest...we don't want food poisoning..
Choices..
Great tip! Marc
Aw, too bad you didn't show how much grease was in the Ninja, assuming the grease drains below.
True. The grease just goes down onto the tray underneath. No grease trap or anything. - J
I like my burgers super well done almost black with barbecue
Awesome !! Marc
I think it's a great product for dieters or little girls who want to play BBQ but you can't compare it to a propane powered Grill
No certainly not a real grill. A good indoor substitute though. Thanks for watching. - J
yeah it's just a novelty grill
We agree 100000%.
💀😂 just watched this today
My opinion about this reviot is that the ninja is not worth it, it is more expensive and does exactly the same as the other one. My opinion is better to buy ninha fodi that comes with a pressure cooker and air fryer plus grill and dehydrator included.
Thanks for the insight and the comment. Cheers. Marc
This device was made during the 90s when the government demonized saturated fats. Turns out saturated fats are very important for your diet.
Thanks for watching! - J
The new George foremans dont get hot enough 😢
I agree !
Great video really like how you tickle a waffle iron that cooks meat that to a preset temperature and compared it to a temperature-controlled air fryer
Thanks for watching and the comment !! Marc
I wonder if that air fryers going to last for 30 years cuz I still like my Foreman them air fryers are nice for certain things like frying Pizza pizza pockets and stuff like that I like making canned biscuits on them Foreman grills they're pretty good
if you want juicier burgers with the foreman grill,,,,,,cook it 1 to 2 min less
Thanks for the tip! - J
Yes I think the GF grill over cook the meat. So I time my cooking time so it’s not be perfect % Thanks I love this video ❤
Thanks for watching ! Marc
Difference in price I'll bet!:).

I decided to google this Ninja grill I've heard about, I saw it and googled is the Ninja Grill different from a George Foreman and it brought me here.

all that grease makes it better. fix it so u dont loose the grease lol
Gotcha ! Thanks for watching. Marc.
Forman all the way. No, 200% past all the way👍👍
We just ordered the newest foreman! The entire unit goes in the dishwasher. Stay tuned for that review ! Marc
I laughed at the gfg when it came out. Bought 1 3 months ago. Im not laughing now. That thing rox
Nice! - J
Overcooking the patties with the Foreman grill makes the comparison futile.
High five !
i dont know but i kinda like the gfg grill more and ill be sniffing that smoke like a degenerate
😂😂. Ok thanks !!
That George Foreman has the original Teflon (the bad stuff). Probably shouldn't let anyone pregnant or with health issues eat off that grill.
U could be right. Not 100% sure. Thanks for watching. Marc
You only have to cook beef like that when you don't trust the source!
Are you a good source for that info?? Lol thanks for watching! - J
@@TheAverageKitchen I think you are looking for a reputable butcher! No wonder you are confused with cooking times if you think viewers from the UK can send beef to you in Canada and it is ok :)
Not confused at all.
@@TheAverageKitchen You are most definitely confusing!
Dude, that is not smoke. That is Steam
Thanks for watching, dude! - J
The Foreman Grill would have had much better results had it not lost so much delicious fat through overcooking. And DO NOT wash the grease from either machine down the drain.

why are you putting hot dog condiments on a burger?

George foreman grill wins because I can store it in a closet. Ninja is toooooooo big.
Nice !! 👍🏼
Too big!
Which ?
So more expensive, more difficult to clean and take longer to cook. It probably breaks down easier as well as more complex things always do.
I have a one-person George Foreman grill and it cost me. $25 brand new. It is great and so easy to clean that I wipe it as soon as I cook before eating. This saves reheating it and doesn't let anything dry on it. It takes less than 30 seconds and so my food is still hot.
Maybe not as important to Americans but in the UK electricity is now so expensive turning on the oven for 30 minutes costs $3.
In Germany, it is so bad now that they are avoiding cooking at all. Because of the war and lack of gas.
Can't argue with any of that. Thanks for the comment! - J
@@TheAverageKitchen - Thanks for the video it was fantastic to see the comparison.
You saved me from spending £200 ($330 Canadian) on something I don't need.
And would actually be more time-consuming, electricity consuming and clean up than what I have.
I use my microwave to defrost and George Foreman for practically everything now and so I was about to spend money on what I thought would be a better version.
I cook chicken fajitas, girl liver and all sorts of meats and fish on the wee Foreman grill.
It is super quick to heat up, cook and clean.
I'd have been pissed I wasted money and probably would have swapped back.
Cheers pal.
