Nightwish is a Finnish symphonic metal band from Kitee. The band was formed in 1996 by lead songwriter and keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen, guitarist Emppu Vuorinen, and former lead singer Tarja Turunen.[1] The band soon picked up drummer Jukka Nevalainen, and then bassist Sami Vänskä after the release of their debut album, Angels Fall First (1997). In 2001, Vänskä was replaced by Marko Hietala, who also took over the male vocalist role previously filled by Holopainen or guest singers.
Nightwish is the third-best-selling band and musical entity in Finland with certified sales of nearly 900,000 certified copies.[12][13][14][15][16] The group is also the most successful Finnish band worldwide, selling more than 10 million records[17] and receiving more than 60 gold and platinum awards, having released six Number 1 albums and thirteen Number 1 singles.[18] On October 26, 2018, Nightwish was inducted into the Finnish Music Hall of Fame, becoming the honorary gallery's 11th member.[19]

I'm gonna echo about every comment below...see Nightwish's tribute to Pink Floyd with High Hopes, live End Of An Era 2005. Marko at his most intense!
This Tampere show was 2015, the Endless Forms Most Beautiful album tour.
The second spoken part - "If I play the chorus, you're gonna sing along, right?" - "Yeah!" - "Are you sure?" - "Yeah!" - "Ok, let's do it"
This is one song that they won't be playing anymore now that Marko has left.

well yeah he is a talent to be recognized, you should maybe watch him do the Nightwish vocals to their tribute to Pink Floyd's "High Hopes" and yes they did all enjoy each other's company even though Marco isn't with them now it wasn't because of the band, there were other things causing him grief, just seen an interview with him and he's getting better but still keeping it low key, may perform with his old group Northern Kings" but it doesn't seem likely he'll be joining Nightwish, loves the performance but hates planes, the traveling, hotels and not enjoyable to him. I still miss him, nothing against Jukka but there's a large hole in their repertoire without Marco's unique vocals
Fortunately, Jukka also sings. Next up: Jari and Teemu join Nightwish and we have Wintersun actually making music!

Marko really shines in their Phantom of the Opera rendition. You can also see their original singer, Tarja in that :D
Troy is playing a low whistle…similar to a tin whistle, but larger and with a lower tone. He also plays Uilleann pipes (an Irish form of bagpipes), bouzouki, guitar, and he sings, too. As you venture out more beyond Wacken 2013 you’ll see/hear a lot more from him.
And you'll see him play the High Whistle also, same family of course.

One thing to remember. Nightwish had 17 years of gold & platinum success and sold out arena world tours before Tuomas officially hired Floor. Watching the Showtime Storytime documentary, Floor was not in best of circumstances when Tuomas called her and offered her the position of touring singer. He flew her to The States and rest is a lovely history.

BTW Marko has been doing some solo sets as of late and I believe caught up with his old band The Northern Kings. Staying busy but not too busy.

ive always loved marko's singing. the tone of his voice is just always good.
It is an old tradition type of flute called a "low whistle". Marko is a front man and lead singer of his previous bands. He can also sing many different styles including a folky campfire storytelling style.

Marco is a great talent as all the other ones. He harmonizes with Floor in such a good way, it’s absolut beautiful. 👍🏆 Also the song: While your lips are still red (live from Wembley 2015) is great. And to have Floor as background singer is a statement ‼️ Nightwish is a band where every member get the time to shine - they are a big family…

Marco has his own band Tarot for many yearsm aside from Nightwish with his brother (guitar) where Marko sings and plas bass. There are many more NW songs where Marko sings alone. "while your lips are still red" is a beautiful song he wrote for NW. The nightwish Army loves Marko and we are VERY aware of his capabilities. He's not the co star or 2nd person. It does not work like that in NW. NW mad a beautiful tribute for Pink floyds song "High hopes" where Marko also sings alone. He is an extremely talented guitar and bassplayer (love the guitar strings on his Warwick double neck, ir sounds acoustic) and a hell of a singer with just as Floor a very wide range. We all adore him

Marko has been a member of, or guested with, over 50 bands and counting. His musical back catalogue is immense. I believe he has left NW permanently (I may be wrong, just my opinion) and I wish him well. We have 20 years of his work with the band to enjoy and I look forward to a second solo album somewhere down the line.

The US has a far different business model than over there. We used to be pretty decent about music, because the labels made enough money from the big names, like Bon Jovi etc, that they could give smaller names a chance. People like Dolly Parton got started writing at 14 or 15, sometimes younger. Not so much anymore, unless you hit the independent circuit w like, Tom MacDonald and the like ( which they hate, btw. He was trending #5 on a video. Billboard literally would not list a #5 on the chart. It went from 4 to 6 ) I adore Marco :) and that low whistle for sure. You hear it a lot in folk metal/bard core and stuff. Speaking of folk metal, check out Nini music channel. Taiwanese folk metal artist. She has a cover of Iron maiden's The trooper on a tradition Chinese lute looking thing. A guy heard her and is trying to design a new instrument for her after some god of war's sword. it looks majorly bad@ss. I don't play any strings, but I totally want one. :) XOXO

Good job, I guess you may not know but Marco retired from Nightwish after 20 years in the band in Jan 2021 , the new bassist is Jukka Koskinen formally with Wintersun same band Kai Hahto was with before he replaced original drummer Jukka Nevalianen in 2014

Marco is absolutely epic on this song. Your reaction is perfect! Please check out Superfruit's version of Rise by Katy Perry. It is fire. They have three guests, Mario, Mary, and Brian. The harmonies they create are incredible. It so resonates with the LGBTQ+ community and for everyone struggling right now.
