Karl, what's your experienced opinion on back-carrying a very heavy/long, M82 or M107 on a single sling connected weirdly to the supplied 1" sling loops on the left/right sides? Have you tried double-sling carrying a light fifty like a backpack like the Walther sniper rifle?
I had a custom Back Pack that carried the M-82 broken down with 4 magazines. I have also carried it with an old M-60/M-240 padded sling. Very doable. You get used to the weight. TR

Not in terms of payload but honestly it’s definitely a superior round for long distance shooting compared to the .50 on account of its velocity and retention of speed.
Perhaps this was early on, as I clearly remember him putting the round on the bolt.... yeah, now that you mention it... in Dijbouti it might have been a mag-fed bolt gun. Still couldn't keep up with the semi-auto Barrett. I just love that thing. I remember the Tac-50s when I visited the SEAL Sniper School at Atterbury. Disagree on the raufuss round. Thats specifically a payload round. The Hornaday Match Grade 50BMG 750 grain is by far the most superior ballistic round.

Wonder if the Serbu .50 has crossed anyone's radar of it's usefulness? The most I know about it is a competitor to Barret and supposed to shoot as good or supposedly better than a Barret.
So I understand theres a mil dot scope on that rifle? If so, why was he saying he would dial in 32 minutes to reset his zero? Is that easier than saying how many mils he would dial?
I don't understand how you can mount night vision in front of your scope without causing issues with zero. Do you have to adjust the night vision so it is presenting the ocular lens to the scope in the right spot?

That's not a Barrett scope. It is a Leupold Mark 4 4.5-14x50 with M1 turrets; MIL reticle/MOA turrets/ no zero stop; good glass (better available 2020)....historically available to civilians, but now discontinued to civilians and only available for military. Why? Marketing demand as today's scopes are better and civilian market died. You can add the Barrett BORS (Barrett Optical Ranging System) onto the scope by exchanging out the elevation turret know essentially, Have been to Barrett for the BORS Armorer's Course. BORS is now discontinued product also.
I think Dave means the other side of the fence as in the black tip M2 rounds are only available to persons in the military on Post on a Base...over that fence- not Mexico!

You know the last Rambo movie that came out Sylvester Stallone wanted to make it as real as possible so he had special forces guys go out and help explain the reality of a 50cal hitting a human, then filmed it to be as real as possible with a thumbs up from the SF guys.
It's designed as an anti-material weapon. So you can take out a vehicle for example. Since it's not designed as an anti-personal weapon the projectile will just bounce off the person.
The reticle shown in his diagram is the MIL-DOT often found in the Leupold Mark 4 as shown on that Barrett.. Run a ballistic calculator against his system holds, and you'll question his values. M33 ball ammo muzzle velocity is 2750fps out of a 29" barrel M82/M107; 2850 out of a chromed lined M107A1. The other military rounds vary by bullet weight and charge. Tracers are erratic due to "propulsion burning" of the tracer....vary greatly from the ball......only useful for general direction due wide ballistics variation. For equidistant distances, the elevation must grow as the velocity drops and gravity accelerates bullet downward. His values are too consistent for much accuracy. Run the numbers.

Hmmm.....pause the vid and record the numbers.....just think for few minutes??? never seen success at LR with BDC concept.....for those too lazy or stupid to do their own ballistics. Always work up actual DOPE for success at distance. Way too many variables at those distances....bar, T, elv, density, wind variability, compass bearing. He's mixing meters distance and MOA turret clicks with MIL reticle. Stadia lines on 2nd focal plane scope vary with power adjustment. He didn't specify what power...assume 14X for those ranges, but that power produces extreme mirage in high temp environs. Examine the increments for succeeding ranges.....seem too consistent in some areas; erratic in other bands.....bullets require increasingly more elv dial for greater ranges as bullet slows per unit of distance and gravity accelerates bullet drop @ 32ft/sec/sec. Yes, I do understand the MilDot. Learn something new every day...but this seems questionable from my experience in Engineering and military. And, yes I do shoot the Barrett...own two M107A1s with and without BORS....Leu Mk4, S&B, NF...
What exactly is it that you think is outdated about this video. Are you just referring to the fact that we now issue better scopes for the M82 and so this sighting system isn't needed? Or something else?

Living in ca we’re stuck with the .416 m82A1, I mean still better than no Barrett. My question is can it be just as effective as the .50 m82A1?

The McMillan Tac-50s we shot were repeating guns with box magazines. I didn't know anybody was using guns in which you had to pull the bolt.

Hmmm.....pause the vid and record the numbers.....just think for few minutes??? never seen success at LR with BDC concept.....for those too lazy or stupid to do their own ballistics. Always work up actual DOPE for success at distance. Way too many variables at those distances....bar, T, elv, density, wind variability, compass bearing. He's mixing meters distance and MOA turret clicks with MIL reticle. Stadia lines on 2nd focal plane scope vary with power adjustment. He didn't specify what power...assume 14X for those ranges, but that power produces extreme mirage in high temp environs. Examine the increments for succeeding ranges.....seem too consistent in some areas; erratic in other bands.....bullets require increasingly more elv dial for greater ranges as bullet slows per unit of distance and gravity accelerates bullet drop @ 32ft/sec/sec. Yes, I do understand the MilDot. Learn something new every day...but this seems questionable from my experience in Engineering and military. And, yes I do shoot the Barrett...own two M107A1s with and without BORS....Leu Mk4, S&B, NF...

What exactly is it that you think is outdated about this video. Are you just referring to the fact that we now issue better scopes for the M82 and so this sighting system isn't needed? Or something else?
